To celebrate a 50th Birthday, 8 of us,[4 couples] booked, via the Globespan Website, for 3 nights in Prague staying at the Ariston Hotel.
There were no delays on the flight from Glasgow and our minibus driver was waiting outside bagage reclaim to meet us at Prague Airport. We'd booked the bus via the Prague Airport Shuttle website.
The driver [German as it turned out] was very hepful and friendly and offered a lot of advice on the sights and eating places, etc, while driving through the City.
On arrival at the Hotel we learned that it was undergoing renovations and we'd be staying at the sister hotel across the road, The Ariston Patio Hotel.
Check in was speedy [the Staff speak very good English] and we made our way to our rooms upstairs.
Listed either as a 2 or 3 star Hotel, depending on which site you obtain your reviews, we found the Ariston to be well above our expectations.
The rooms were spotless and fairly modern with comfortable beds, satellite T.V., coffee making facilities and a mini bar [Coke, water, wine, sweets, etc, available at slightly above local prices]. For a small fee, a room safe was obtained. The heating is obviously well maintained as we had to open the windows on occasions [not a bad thing when the temperature outside is below freezing.]
The Trams run 24 hours a day immediately past the windows of the Hotel but we didn't find this a problem.
The Hotel is in the Zizkov area of Prague, about a mile or 3 Tram stops from the City Centre. There are several small Bars and Restaurants around it and prices are generally below what you'd pay in the City. A pint of beer in the bar next door to the Hotel was about 60p. A gin, vodka, rum about the same.
Breakfast was taken between 7am and 10 am, buffet style in the downstairs restaurant of the Ariston Hotel itself and consisted of meats, smoked sausages, beans, cheese, eggs, toast, preserves, cereals, cakes, tea and coffee. No complaints whatsoever about the fare on offer.
Our rooms were cleaned daily and towels were changed on demand.
Prague itself is a beautiful City and it would be impossible to see all the sights in the short time we spent there.
We will certainly return to Prague [hopefully soon] and could do worse than stay at the Ariston or Ariston Patio Hotel.
