"Lovely place but not for us.."
Overall Hotel Rating:
We booked this hotel on the strength of the reviews already posted and being frequent travellers to El Gouna were really looking forward to it. All I can say is we were very disappointed. The hotels in El Gouna have been badly affected by the political revolution which meant we were the only people staying at the Mosaique. Everyone else was at the sister hotel (Fanadir) next door. We should have been moved straight into this hotel when we arrived as there was never anybody at our pool bar. Even if we wanted a glass of water (no bottles provided) someone had to come from next door to pour it!! We could wait for up to an hour to get a drink sometimes. One evening we fancied a cocktail and the hotel provided a lovely menu at the bar. When the waiter finally arrived he told me he had none of the ingredients! The biggest disappointment for us though was the lack of food choice and the quality was not up to the usual standard you get in El Gouna. At lunchtime we chose from a menu with a choice of 3 main courses. The manageress (who was lovely and I felt sorry for) explained that they were throwing too much food away to warrant the lovely buffets we saw on the hotels website.
Another point I would question regarding information on the hotels website, is that the rooms can sleep up to 3 adults. They don't really. I paid full adult price for my 12 year old daughter and she was given a camp bed (which kept collapsing). When we mentioned this to the manager she said none of rooms have 3 beds. Luckily she is a small girl so we managed!
The entertainment is non existant which we knew before we booked, however, with the lack of people and quite depressed mood of the staff I think that they would benefit from a little music - at least at dinner time.
In a nutshell, if you are thinking of booking a hotel in El Gouna to use as a base whilst you go sightseeing and water sporting and like very peaceful evenings you will probably love this place. If, on the other hand like me you enjoy 4/5 star all inclusive luxury and top service with a little holiday atmosphere thrown in - go to the Ocean View.
