We arrived at the Nile Palace following 7 nights cruising aboard the Nile Romance, and although we had to wait a while for our rooms to be ready, there was plenty of places to sit (indoors and out). The staff were all cheerful and helpful at all times. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. Our balcony overlooked the Nile and swimming pool area (although some did look inwards over the cafe and restaurant area). Food and Drink was cheaper here than at Le Meridien Pyramids in Cairo - and there was plenty of choice with 5 restaurants and 2 snack bars. A perfect place to relax after our whirlwind tour of some of the wonders of Egypt.

The staff at the Sofitel Karnak were the friendliest I have ever encountered. They could not do enough for me and made my holiday extremely enjoyable. My room was cleaned impecably, the waiters were charming and helpful, the chefs were very attentive and helpful with my nut allergy. The reception staff knowledgeable and informative, the pool staff and animation team welcoming and amusing. I will certainly return to this hotel and thoroughly recommend it.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that a nile cruise is an unforgettable experience in more ways than one. Firstly and definitely the best thing about the cruise were the fantastic guides who are extremely knowledgeable and give a facinating and unique insight into the life of the ancient egyptians. However, I have to admit to being less than impressed by the rather dated and shabby ship the Crown Prince. Five star it is not! The accomodation generally needs a complete refurbish and overhaul. Rooms are of an acceptable size but fittings are rather well worn. The shower is an experience in itself alternating between freezing cold and scalding hot. Food is buffet style with plenty of choice but very limited for vegetarians. Staff are helpful but ultimately only interested in the size of tip you intend to leave at the end of the week. Drinks are very expensive onboard and best purchased from local shops. Overall it was an enjoyable and enlightening week.

We did all the main trips the first week on a cruise. Karnak and Luxor temples and museum is a must. There are no beaches but the hotel pools are good. Kalesh drivers can be frightening and taxi drivers think nothing of using their mobile whilst having a cigarette driving and tail gating. The market is a remarkable sight but loads of hassling can make it unpleasant. None of the bars we visited outside the hotel were welcoming. One so called Irish bar has a few leprechauns and tea towels on the walls and according to our rep Egyptian men frequent the disco there to offer their services to European ladies. We looked in a few restaurants but didn't find any appealing enough to eat in. Not a resort for young children unless you just want sun and a pool.

We stayed here following a cruise on the 5t rated Regency, a ship that we could not fault in any way for food service and cleanliness and we hope to return to. We expected the same standards at the hotel but there were many disappointments. Check in took ag...

We stayed here following a cruise on the 5t rated Regency, a ship that we could not fault in any way for food service and cleanliness and we hope to return to. We expected the same standards at the hotel but there were many disappointments. Check in took ages as staff gave priority to guests leaving. A receptionist gave us wrong directions to a 5th floor room (pointed us to wrong lifts) Cases arrived in room half an hour after we did, porter waited hand out for his tip. The room was clean, bed comfy, toiletries provided but I reported a split coil on the hairdryer more than once, it still wasn't fixed before we left. The room wasn't cleaned every day beds not turned down at night and although we paid for a Nile view the balcony narrowed from the doors to the railing to less than a metre so if we sat side by side we lost sight of the pool and half the river! We were half board and couldn't fault the food in the main restuarant, the only smoke free zone in the hotel. A fantastic range on the buffet and a cooked to order option every night. No upset stomachs unlike some guests who ate outside. Entertainment is average, if you buy refreshements while watching it, you get charged night club tax on your bill -only a small amount 40p but something that isn't clearly pointed out and is added to every bill you get. This is the only hotel we've stayed at where you sign for purchases but get no receipt for it. It's worth keeping a check as we were charged £7 for mini bar drinks that we did not use and it's lumped in as "beverage" in the final bill. Several people complained about wrong charges and had the stock in mini bar removed. The pool area and staff are great, tip daily or at the end of your stay. Snacks available from the pool bar. Drinks are expensive £4 a small beer but we've paid the same at hotels in the UK. Soft drinks £1.40 a can we were told by some bar staff that the English only drink tea as it's cheap. We preferred to drink in the Nubian village by the pool overlooking the river, quiet and cool. There was no pub as advertised in our brochure or a comfortable lounge, easy chairs were placed in the main corridor leading to the terrace bar. The hassle as soon as you leave the hotel is overbearing. They don't give up and don't take no for an answer even following you along the road. There is a public pool area next door and some building work close by. Pay cash if you can everyone paying by card had problems. We'd say a four star overall.

Luxor is great to visit if you are interested in visiting egyptian historical sites or just lazing by the pool, there isnt really any nightlife in the area we stayed, but this wasnt the purpose of our trip. If you are looking for a beach and party holiday this isnt the place to visit. As i have been on plenty party holidays i found this holiday to be great for sightseeing and overall very relaxing and chilled.

The Iberotel in Luxor was great, the hotel was spotless and your towels in your room were changed daily. The restaurants were lovely and the food, although a little repetitive at times, was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly and overall the hotel was clean and comfortable and i wouldnt hesitate in recommending it to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway or as a base for visiting historical sites.

Lovely place if you want to relax as a couple, certaintly not recommended for children, apart from the heat there is nothing for them to do, the slide was switched off for much of the week and the activity by the pool lasted for an hour if that at 3pm.

Take plenty of stomach tablets as you will need them as well as hand washing gel as everyone seems to have stomach problems.

Apart from the first day the food wasnt great and the fruit tasted strange so I'm not sure whether it was washed in there water.

The entertainment was a man singing in the bar of an evening which was a bit dull after one night.

Luxor town is quite daunting and some of the beggars can be quite nasty, you are harrassed for as long as you are there, though the horse and carriage was nice.

Very friendly people in the hotel and wanted to please as much as they could, drinks could be expensive but cheap in the town.

Went in August which is very hot, too hot to sunbathe but nice to sit in the pool with a book or two!!

July / August 2008 Just returned from a 1 week cruise on the Viking Premiere booked through Discover Egypt with the second week in the Steignberger Nile Palace. Where do I start? Discover Egypt, first class company. From the second you enter Luxor Airport the reps are there, they sort out your visa's without the need to queue, (you pay the £10 each on your cruise ship) they ensure you get onto the correct bus, they must have had 20 reps at the airport. Nothing was too much trouble for them, glad we booked through Discover Egypt, I have recommended them to my friends and family. Our cruise ship, Viking Premiere is rated 5* I would agree as the service, food and staff were first class. ( dont expect to lose weight as you are given 3 full meals per day plus tea cakes and biscuits at 5 ish. Cleanliness is second to non with hand sanitizing units in every cabin and at entrances to the dining rooms and lounge. The evening entertainment was great and we made lots of friends. The tours to the Temples and Tombs in the valley of the kings etc were made even more interesting by our guide Maha, she is so enthusiastic that even if you are not 100% an Egypt fan you will always remember things from every visit. Our second week was in the Steignberger Nile Palace whech was recommended by Discover Egypt as some work is going on in the Sonesta St George ( 3 floors on the roof ) The Nile Palace is 5* without any doubt. Rooms large, attended at least 2 times per day, excellent service, our hairdrier tube fell of on the first day and was replaced within 2 hours. We were B&B but dont worry as the Hotel has 5 restaurants and 2 snack bars. Call in and see Erica on reception ( English ) she will give you some advice on where to eat and where the best places are to shop, she appreciates any shampoos, shower gels pg tips that you dont take home as some are not available in Luxor. If you want to go further a field than the Hotel, just outside to the right is a side road which always has a Taxi parked in it, just ask for Mr Fish, tell him Bill sent you and he will ensure you get an air conditionad Taxi, and a good price, tell him you have read reviews on the internet about him and you will be part of his family for ever. ( we were invited to his village to a family wedding which lasted for 2 days, we had to decline as we were due to fly home the next day.) by the way there are 6 brothers in the Fish Taxi company ask him for a card with his photo on it. Great Holiday.

Had read good reviews of this hotel and it more than surpassed expectations, particularly Khaled the waiter, he was lovely every day and not just on 'tips' day when everyone is going home, his favourite saying was 'it's my job, and I love my job' and he genuinely meant it !! Yes, you get hassled when you leave the hotel by the caleche drivers, by the taxi drivers, by the felucca sailors, by the shop owners, you name it, they want your money, but you soon get used to keeping on walking and not making eye contact. If you want good advice and fantastic prices for trips go see Hamdi in the Hotel shop, he got us an air conditioned luxury car, a driver and a guide including all entrance tickets in the Vally of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and Hatchepsuts Temple for £60 for 3 people, no hanging around, spent as long as we wanted in each place and fantastic, guide..........everyone should go to egypt at least once in their lifetime, it's ever changing - buy souvenirs from Hamdi, Mahmoud and Shadi, they are brilliant

Travelled with my family and we absolutely loved the hotel. Everyone was friendly we stayed half board and the selection of food was excellent. Room service was very good and the management excellent. The waiter was always around to fill up your cup with coffee or tea and always with a smile. The location of the hotel was also excellent because it was easy to get to where you wanted to go in Luxor. Karnak Temple was just a walk away.

Our rooms overlook the road and we thought it would be noisy but it wasn't. The hotel have a lovely garden with its own floating pool.
