What can I say. We went for a week's cruise down the Nile with Archers/Cosmos and personally I dont think this boat and the service we received can be beaten. From the moment we got off the coach from the airport till the moment we left we were looked after like film stars. The boat was beautiful. The top deck had a lovely pool to cool off in, plenty of sunbeds and towels and a covered bar area. Our room was on the 3rd floor and had lovely views from the window.
The service was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good. When you went out on trips you were greeted back by a lovely cold or hot tea drink and flannels to refresh you. The air-conditioning was excellent throughout the boat and the bedrooms. Everytime we left our room during the day, when we returned it had been tidied again! Our rep Helen was very helpful and our Egyptologist Mohammed was the best. We never had to wait for a coach or had any delays on our trips, everything flowed. There were early wake up calls to allow you to get breakfast before we left on the trips. Abu Simbel was something else. We flew there at about 4am and saw the sunrise there. We were leaving as coach loads of tourists were arriving at about 8.30am!!!! so we had the rest of the day to ourselves. The organisation was beyond belief. The tipping on the boat was brilliant. Instead of continually tipping it was suggested that you leave a tip in an envelope at the end of the week for the waiters and staff and also for the egyptologist.
This was a holiday to remember and we had the best time ever.
However, out and about in Egypt you are expected to tip continually - everyone wants money. They try to drag you into their shops, chase you round to get you to buy something...try not to make eye contact and if you do they are on you. If you want to go to the toilet you are expected to give them money for 2 sheets of toilet paper!!!
