Just returned from a great holiday at the Tulip. The weather was excellent and the facilities even better. If you like peace and quiet and don,t like tourist overkill this is the place for you. In our opinion Marsa Alam in the next 5 years will be very different, you can see on the 20 minute transfer from the aiport the beginnings of something massive. However at the moment Tulip is the only oasis for miles in the middle of a baren desert.
It has its own private sandy beach, 3 pools, fantastic gardens, beach restaurant, shops bars, health spa, diving centre etc etc etc everything u could possible want, only down side is there is absulutely nowhere to go outside the complex but when you are AI this is no great hardship.
Tulip is predominantly Italian,German with a few French ,English are in the minority however Brits are not neglected they even provide an English satelite film channel.
Few tips for u no pun intended, good idea to take euros with u especially small notes for tipping the staff. You can pay in sterling but exchange rate rubbish and hotel never seemed to have enough money for change.
You DO NOT need beach towels these are provided.
The AI drinks are awfull the beer is odd(but you do get used to it) the spirits are like paint stripper, we had bought 2 litres of Smirnoff at Manchester for £16 so I just filled a water bottle with vodka kept it in the handbag and just had tonic water or orange from the bar and added my own vodka, medicinal purposes you understand!! If we were to go again we,d just take a bottle of gin as well.
Redeeming factor the wines not too bad.
Overall would reccomend Tulip to anyone its probably not 4 star as you,d get in some other places but in such a poor country its very good.
The hotel is sat between the desert and the sea with nothing around for miles so if you want to'chill out' and it's the only thing you need from a holiday this is the ideal place for you.

The hotel is beautifully laid out and the service very good. The rooms are spacious and very clean, most either over look the sea or pool/gardens. I went the week after The New Year so it was exceptionally quiet however I see no reason why the service would alter if the hotel was busy.
The food was very much standard fare with plenty of salads and deserts. It was well presented and was reasonably varied. Drinks wise they are locally sourced and the spirits are an acquired taste. The AI package runs up to 11pm so any late nights cost.
The hotel seems to cater for mainly Italians, Germans and Swiss.
I would recommend a couple of strategic tips at the beginning of your holiday, it's amazing how the service improves
