This was a holiday never to be forgotten. We flew to Stockholm and spent one night in the hotel Esplanade which was fine. We had to find our own way from Arlanda airport to Stockholm. We took the Arlanda express train which was easy to do, then a taxi to the hotel which was near the river. Just a short walk away we found a good restaurant called Finnes and there are lots more in the area.

The next day we flew to Kiruna which is Swedish Lapland. Arriving at the Ice Hotel first impressions were a bit disappointing until we walked into the hotel itself. That was when we were transported into a fairy tale of stunning ice sculptures, fantastic scenes and suites. Inside was -5c. The first night we slept in the Ice hotel having been issued with thermal sleeping bags. Lesson learnt.... if there are two of you go for a double bag...much warmer and make sure you have thermals and a couple of light layers. The scenery is just like 'Narnia'
You have to do this to experience the magic of it all.It was Keith's 50th birthday!! Second night is in warm accomadation which is good. Included in our trip was an evening snowmobile safari when we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). Another trip was to see the reindeers, again a fantastic experience.

A number of other activities were on offer icluding a sledge ride with huskies. They are all quite expensive. Not all meals were included. We had a fabulous meal one evening at the Ice Hotel restaurant.
This is by no means a cheap break but if you want something different it really is worth every penny. Just go with the knowledge that you are in Sweden and costs are high there.
We also saw a wedding in the Ice Chapel whilst we were there.

This really was a wonderful experience for us and one that we will treasure forever!!
