I would recommend the Holiday Club Tropikki to anyone with Children, or if you don't want to spend all your day ski-ing. The tropical swimming area was fantasic for my little boy (3), as was the Arena Sports Bar, bowling, Play room etc.. There is also a sports centre and health suites, steam baths etc.... There is a Kindergarten in Ruka which was lovely, ideal for non-ski-ing kids.
The rooms were a bit on the small size for a family, idea for a couple, not very much cupboard space, but they were very clean and tidy.
The hotel food was lovely, a bit 'samey' by the end of the week, but you really couldn't complain about the quality, and as it was a buffet you could eat as much as you wanted.
There are so many extra excursions, we done the Husky Sledging (brill), Father Christmas (Brill), Snowmobile safari (brill) and the Reindeer Safari - again brilliant !
We got this holiday at a bargain price and I would recommend Finland to anyone. Just a little bit of advise though - pack your thermals, as it is very cold.

We booked this holiday basically as a last resort as everything else we had tried was already fully booked up, but we were not disappointed.
Emagine travel tried their very best to find somewhere in Finnish Lapland for us that was still available (we didn't book until November 2004) and this hotel in Ruka was the only one. We arrived in Lapland in the evening and it didn't feel as cold as expected, the journey by bus from the airport took approx 40 minutes and was very scenic. The bus dropped us off right outside the hotel and check in was fairly quick.
The hotel lobby was very atmospheric (this was Christmas time) with a roaring open fire and a real Christmas tree. Our room was spacious and very clean with an extremely large shower and good views of the ski slopes. The area had numerous bars most of which were open until the early hours every night. Within walking distance there was also a pizza takeaway and an off license. Right next door to the hotel was a local safari company who offered trips to reindeer farms, husky sledging and snowmobile rides; we did all three and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. We found the Finnish people very friendly and approachable and most could speak very good English.
Overall we really enjoyed this break, Ruka is, first and foremost a skiing resort, but has lots to do even if you don't ski and although it is a busy resort we found we were not disturbed by people coming back from the bars late at night if we had a night in. We would, however recommend it more for couples or groups rather than families.
