Eight of us visited dinan as a base to play golf over a long weekend on 4 local courses. We played Dinard on the first day, a challenging links course with great views and a wicked omlette in the clubhouse for lunch. The next day we were at Val Andre, A spectacular course with one hole, a par 5 ,driving off a mountain over a ruined house on to a fairway flanked by the sea...awesome. Next day was Le Tronchet, played it twice in one day with buggies. Some tough holes over a river and in excellent condition. On the last day we played Granville, Looks a bit like st andrews, really windy links course with everything undulating and long wispy rough, not for the faint hearted.
The Hotel was great , Traditional rooms with 1st clas bathrooms and a super buffet breakfast served to us pretty early when requested.
Dinan is a must, and I have already decided to return in feb 2005. Areally pretty medieval town with friendly people and some great food. Try Le Pelican with a local aperitife containing local cider and kir mmm... Weather was just right, suprising as its only just across the water!
We used Brittany ferries to get to France ,which has a good restaurant with loads of jumbo prawns on the buffet (worth every penny), Everything was clean and quite smart which i didnt really expect on a ferry ! It had a good cabaret and bar which got our crowd of 8 off to a memorable start.
All in all if you havent been to France, you really must go . If you want a true experience in a medieval town, then Dinan is the place to go.The Hotel was excellent and right bang in the middle of town. The roads were quiet (an unusual experience). Finally, if you want to play golf then try this tour as we did and be prepared to be amazed !!!!
