We went out of season to Nice for a long weekend.

The flights with Easyjet from Luton were very modestly priced and punctual. We arrived to blue skies, not that hot but nevertheless, preferable to wet, cold, dark England.

The hotel is on the sea front in Nice and is a member of the ";Leading Hotels of the World"; Group.

From the moment we arrived at this hotel, the service was first class, from the welcoming committee that greeted us, to the quality of the room (we were upgraded to a Deluxe Seaview Room because of the season).

The hotel is in Belle Epoque Style and has been modernised internally to a very high standard without losing the former splendour of the external facade of the 1920s.

The hotel's leisure facilities were also of a very high standard. These comprised of an indoor-outdoor pool all in one, a small gymnasium with running machines, weights and cycles and sauna and turkish bath on the 6th floor (around the corner from where our room was).

The other highlight was our room was maintained twice a day with fresh fruit and a bottle of sparking wine for our entire stay. Nothing was too much trouble.

We were greeted at breakfast by friendly-serving staff. Breakfast is what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre, with a wide choice of buffet items and freshly-cooked fare on request.

In Nice, there is a large choice of restaurants and shops. Meals were a little more expensive than in the UK, but that was to be expected. Nice is not quite a rich as Monte Carlo (we only saw one Ferrari)!

We walked to the railway station and took the short train journey to Cannes for the day. This we found more expensive than Nice and full of designer shops and boutiques. Not for the faint-hearted.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with our experience, and wish that more hotels were like this one. Congratulations to the Management.

We look forward to returning there in 2005.
