We wanted to visit the D-Day landing sites, memorials etc and Bayeaux tapistry. The whole of Normandy and in particular the Calvados regions where we stayed was fantastic. Very clean, picturesque and the people were extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone greeted us.
Deauville is an upmarket town, and adjacent to the town of Trouville. The beaches were beautiful and sandy, it was however very windy. Deauville tends to be a little more expensive to eat than its neighbour.
Hoseasons describe the accommodation as ";Luxury apartments in peaceful two or three-storey buildings";.
My initial impression of the overall complex was good, however, my initial impression on entering our apartment was 'pokey'. The double bed had a foot of space around three sides and a tiny built in wardrobe and chest of drawers at the end of the bed. The second bunk-bed room just about accommodated the bunk bed and another tiny built in shelf unit. Only one of my daughters could enter the bedroom at a time, having to get onto one of the bunks before the other could get in the room. It was really awkward trying to get clothes out of the cupboard, and virtually impossible to make the beds properly.
The bathroom and shower room were also small and the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall in the shower room, the seal around the shower was mildewed and the basin leaked into the cupboard underneath. The white-washed furniture in the lounge was grubby, chipped, and marked, and the unit above the microwave/convection oven was burnt. This was also located very high in the units (I'm 5ft 8in) and I felt it was extremely dangerous to use and it was above my eye level.
There was a bar and lounge area in the main Reception but this closed at 8pm every night except Saturday (changeover day - when it shut at 10pm). Hardly worth bothering with.
This was not a 'cheap' holiday and Hoseasons let us down on the accommodation front. I wouldn't recommend staying here. There are many beautiful gites and hotels in Normandy well worth the money.
