ok, lets start at the beginning.
this was our very first time to paris, travelling independantly without transfers. i was a little worried about getting from cdg to paris centre, however i needn't have worried at all. we flew into t3 at cdg and as you clear passport controle and leave the building turn right and follow the signs to the train station. this walk will take about 10 minutes.
once in the station look for the main ticket desk, do not be put off if the que is long as it does go down failry quickly. we bought tickets to gard du nord and then asked advice as to which platform we should go to and where that was. most staff speak english so it really is easy. the train journey took about 15-20 minutes and cost a 8 euros each. when we arrived at gard du nord we decided to get a taxi to our hotel and this cost just 10 euros.
the hotel was a lovely little place but basic, but this is all you need, as you spend little time in your htl. there is a small breakfast lounge which serves continental breakfast, the rooms were small but adequat.
this hotel on the other hand was in one of the best locations. down a quiet side street to get you away from the noise, but within 10 minutes walk you could reach the opera house, louvre, place de la concord which is at the bottom of champs elysees.
we loved it.
we bought from our hotel a 48 hour pass for the green open top bus, L'open tour, this gives you unlimited stops, you just hop on and hop off as you like, it takes you past all the major tourist points and more, and you have little earphones which you keep to get running comentary on the places you are passing, these buses run every 10 minutes or less depending on the time of day. definatly well worth doing, you get to see everything.
points worth visiting are the opera house, the louvre, notre damn and the latin quarter - food very cheap here. napoleans tomb and the military museeum, and of course the eiffal tower and many many more places.
paris is beautiful, i fell in love with the place.
