Booked private transfer via agent, next time would contact hotel direct and arrange for them to us up, works out cheaper.Coconut Res. is about a 10 min walk from beach, so it's not actually in a resort. The surrounding area isn't very pleasant, a main road outside the main gates and a few shabby old shops. You must remember where you are when you travel from the airport to the hotel. There's lots of poverty and no pretty scenery! None the more for that once you go through the gates to the hotel it's a different story.
There are security guards on duty 24hrs.
There is no hassle from the staff at all.
They are very friendly, always helpful and polite. The hotel is like being in a huge private house, with attractive furnishings and ornaments. The managerial staff are extremely helpful and professional. We met some really nice people staying there, a good cross section.
The food was the finest we've ever had in a hotel, with a lovely setting around one of the pools.
A must is a trip in one of the hotels three pirogues, we had three crew members looking after the two of us. The chef cooks a fantastic lunch and looks after you all day.
The hotel encourages you to tip(if you want)at the end of the week, after making a few enquiries we preferred to tip direct with the staff so we knew who was getting what.
We can recommend The Clay Oven and the Butchers Shop for eating out.
There's no entertainment at the hotel, thank goodness, and The Gambia offers little in the way of sightseeing, so we would recommend this place for a real chill out holiday, if you're quite active it wouldn't suit.Weather fantastic, careful of the mozzies, can't wait to go again.
