When you compare this holiday with what's available in other countries please remember this is a third world economy, people earn on average £20-00 a month. Their definition of luxury is relative to this, I think you need to be a fairly seasoned traveler or laid back to enjoy yourself and not be put off by battered taxies, hustlers on the streets and the poverty of the country. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday, i've had much poorer accommodation in Greece and Spain.

The Ocean Bay Hotel proved to be excellent, rooms were spacious, very clean, air conditioned with satellite TV. The grounds were immaculately laid out the pool is a fair size with free sunbeds and towels provided. The food was very good, we were bed and breakfast which was served buffet style with a large selection of food of which you could have as much as you like. The service was outstanding everybody helpful and friendly. Food and drinks were more expensive in the hotel than outside but given the overheads of the hotel this was understandable, buy water in the local shop opposite the hotel it's a lot cheaper than the hotel. Outside the hotel you will be approached, every time you go out by locals trying to persuade you to part with money using every trick in the book, their not aggresive just a pain, if you can, ignore them, speaking to them only identifies your nationality and encourages them to continue. Otherwise keep saying no and walk on, dont let them follow you into a restaurant they may order a meal and expect you to pay as they believe that your their friend because you have engaged in conversation with them. The beach in Cape Point is long and sandy and the sea was warm, there is a warning of dangerous currents in the sea but I swam every day with no problem.

Hotel staff on the beach were great, helpful and friendly. I can recommend a local guide Mr YaYa he offers a free bird watching session from the hotel on Sunday evenings and is increadibly knowledgeable about birds, we hired him for a trip to Abutu nature park and for a bird watching and visit to the crocodile pool trip, both very enjoyable.

Local eating places are basic but the food is good and very reasonable a meal costs about £4, beer 80p a bottle I never had a bad meal, don't stay in the hotel all the time, go out and enjoy the local culture, the people are friendly, it is safe just takes a bit of getting used to.
