A must is the free tour of berlin it is at your discretion to pay the guide,it was a walking tour we took and lasted for 3.5 hours, it took in all of the sites with plenty of info.pick up the leaflet at your hotel for the ";INSIDER TOUR";,YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

The next must do is the telecom tower(fernsehturm) with revolving cafe/restaurant this was fantastic see berlin 360 degrees whilst having a drink and food no rush to move you on from the cafe,we stayed for 1.5 hours we just kept spotting great views that we would not of seen from the ground or bus.
Berlin is not cheap but there is good deals to be had from the various cafe/bars look out for the deals. go to UNTER LINDEN STRASSE, look out for the great bars and restaurants.

Getting around is easy buy a ";tageskarte"; cost is 5:80 eur tis will get around all areas for a whole day, very good value.
Berlin is very expensive, the souvieners are price as if they are made from gold, take your camera and come back with the best souveniers that will not cost you the earth.

I have stopped in a few bad uns - and this was better than them.

It was a 10min ride on the tram (which stops at the end of the street) in to the Alexander Platz area - which could be discribed as the old East Berlin City Centre.

Lots to see and do in and around Alexanderplatz - Escado's Steak House was fantastic, easy access to Checkpoint Charlie etc either by foot, underground/subway/metro or tour bus, Hackesher Markt and Oranienburger Strasse for bars and cafes.

Some waiters and bar staff seemed to have a resentment to the English - despite making our best sober and drunken efforts to speak German!!

We flew easyjet and the taxi from the airport was about 20Eur. Split between four of us - meant it worked out very cheap. Less than £5 each for a 20 minute journey!!
The inspectors don't check tickets on the trams either... just like in Amsterdam.
