9 blokes, not a stag do, just a summer social.

Flew from Stansted to Lubeck Airport. Bus to Lubeck 2.25 euros, 20 mins....train to Hamburg, 45 mins. (Up to five adults can travel anywhere north of Hamburg on the trains for a day for 30 euros).
From Hauptbanhoff(main)station we got the S-bahn underground to Reeperbahn.

Hotel Zleep almost right outside at top of steps, and was clean and modern with nice rooms (twins worked out 38 euros pp/pn room only). Good double glazing very useful as Harley Davidson convention in town that weekend, roaring round the Reeperbahn all day and night!). A few street people around, but no trouble came our way. Collecting bottles to claim back green tax is a bit of a street industry.

Hotel was right on the end of Reeperbahn with cheap supermarket right below for provisions and instore pastry/coffee bar for late breakfast. Right outside back door friendly local bar 'Tippel 1',then two mins to Reeperbahn, allsorts of bars and clubs on adjoining streets, kebabs excellent!

Scenery in the city centre is good with inland lake and canals, bars spread around, shopping (affluent city)...Another part is Altona for a different mood, quite laid back and select about a mile walk from Reeperbahn, tubes run all night at weekend.

Travel round the Hamburg area for a day, we got travelcard from the tube ticket machine for five people 8.60 euro valid 9am-6am next day. Ok for trains, tubes, buses and ferries...excellent value, got the U-bahn about 10 miles out to little town of Wedel and walked down to the river cafes where ships go past every few minutes. Back to city.. ferries, just hop on at the water front and go up and down river Elbe seeing the container ships/docks on the other side opposite, or get off for a beer. In fact, walked down to the Fishmarkt after a night out and just missed the first ferry for a sunrise trip on the river still on ticket from day before. Sunday morning the Fishmarkt bars/cafes open at 5am.

Also couple of hours train ride is the beach resorts at Westerland(North Sea) or Travemunde(Baltic). We went to the latter, and also the Baltic port of Kiel for a look round and nice fish meals on boat restaurant.

Definitely worth going once.
