"Gibraltar"
Overall Country Rating:
Gibraltar itself is busy and small, steeped in history (most of it Naval) and very friendly. Spend the day browsing the shops and enjoy a meal and a drink (alcohol or tea/coffee) in any number of lovely bars. We really do love it here.
Take a trip up the rock to experience the Apes in the wild. They are simply adorable. Make sure you do not have any paper bags at hand though or they will try and take them thinking it is food. I have had apes jump on my back twice now. It does not bother me though, I found it very funny and a lovely experience, although they have been known to be a little boisterous before!! So, may not be for the delicat type of person.
I don't know what it is that draws us back to Gibraltar, all I know is, we love it here.

"Lots to do"
Overall Country Rating:
Unfortunately we had torrential rain most of the time, but in clear weather, views are spectacular from the Rock, and there are plenty of attractions for all ages. They're a little bit obsessed with their military history, and getting about can be difficult, especially getting used to the buses. Spring would have been a better time to go, as the beach facilities looked quite good. There are a lot of duty free shops (mostly jewellers) if that's what interests you, and the glassware factory is a must see. The small zoo in the Botanical Gardens had some very cute animals.

Overall Country Rating:
Gibraltar was a very pleasant experience, a nice place. It made for a change from the normal places we visit, and using the pound is good when the Euro is such poor value. The apes at the top of the mountain are so adorable!

We enjoyed our stay in Gibraltar. The best bit is going up the mountain to see the barbary apes! It is also nice being somewhere that is exactly like England, but with hot weather!

I love Gib, although it is VERY busy in the day with workers, school children from spain and mostly day trippers.
There are several unspoilt beaches that only the locals seem to go to.
The obligatory Gib / rock tour is a must as are the monkeys.
Night life is fairly low key (apart from when teh navy are in!), a good amout of bars, Star bar recommended for food and drink.
Overall Gib, a UK in the sun!

When you see pictures in the brochures this beach area looks very nice but the reality is a bit disappointing. The sand is fine and it is a great experience to swim in the sea with the huge rock looming up above you. However the general area and promenade bit are really scruffy. No pretty plants or palm trees. It seems the tourist board have no interest in creating a pleasant beach side area in which to dine or go for a drink. It is just a concrete wall with a couple of cheap cafes. The cafes are ok food wise but certainly not places you would wish to linger. Right next to the beach is what looks like an industrial dump. If I were in the tourist board I would spend abit of money landscaping beautifying this beach. It is strange that they cant see it !

Upper Rock Nature Reserve:Brilliant place to visit. Buy the full ticket and you can visit all thr attractions on the reserve map including St Michael's Cave, the Ape Den, the Siege tunnels and the Moorish castle. Be aware that the lanes through the reserve are very tight. Your car may get knocked by other cars trying to squeeze through. We saw this happen a few times during our visit!

"Excellent place"
Overall Country Rating:
Gibraltar - I have been visiting since I was 18months old and what a superb place, full of history, lots to do and very quaint. It's certainly not modern or "plasticky" Spain. It's a historical place.
Lots of people say the place is dirty and unclean, however it isn't, it just not bright porcelain tiles like those in Spain.
Enjoy, you will not be disappointed!

Catalan Bay is on the quieter side of Gibraltar rock and is home to the quieter and more relaxing beach. Nightlife isn't as fun as in the centre but there are a few restaurants and shops to entertain you and a bus ride to the centre of town and Main Street is only a 5 minute ride.

I loved the tour we had of the Rock, we took one of the many mini bus tours up. We stopped first at Hercules Pillars and had some great views of Africa across the Starights. We then headed up to the caves, as we approached the monkeys decended on us. Our guide told us that these ones were know as the Alibaba apes as they pinched things and not to entertain them. He informed us there were more friendlier ones higher up the rock. The caves were fantastic the pictures we took look amazing. We then carried up to the top of the rock to a feeding area for the monkeys. We had no warning, were told that the monkeys would come and sit on you but not to feed them (Although the tour guide proceeded to feed them M&M's through the bus window!!) I walked to a nearby wall to look over and a monkey jumped onto my shoulder.

"home from home, lovely relaxing place"
Overall Country Rating:
Really loved Gib. Like the fact that its small enough to get most places on foot. You don't have to worry about speaking a different language or converting currency so it's totally relaxing, makes an easy get away (that sounds lazy I know but I'd just been to Egypt and that holiday seemed like such hard work!) Couldn't get over how cheap the duty free booze was!

I found Gibraltar a great place for duty free bargains and there was plenty of shops to choose from. The majority of the people were English speaking. There was a lot of English type pubs and also plenty of fish and chip shops.
