We read a review on this hotel after we had booked it and were very unsure of what we would find as the reviews were so bad. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.
The hotel was very isolated and is deal for a relaxing holiday away from the busy resorts but only a ten minute taxi ride away from Panjim. The hotel was very clean, towels and sheets changed daily and the rooms kept spotlessly clean. The bathroom was very basic more a wet room than anything else.
The food at breakfast was excellent and the evening menus varied with some really good entertainment. The BBQs on the beach are highly recommended, all ending with firework display. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough to help. We will certainly be returning to this hotel, although in the next five years another hotel is to be built, which means the isolated beaches may not be so idyllic. The beach bars also offered value for money and again the food is well worth a try.
On reaching the resort (Bambolim is very quite near the Airport via a shortcut down some dodgy backroads) we immediately knew this wasn't the place for us.

We decided to stay the one night and try and get nearer the action in Candolim or Calangute.
On arriving in Candolim, a friendly taxi driver took us to:-
CASA ALEXIO just through Calangute onto Baga Road.
I cannot praise this place enough. I stay in UK hotels on a regular basis and this was at least on a par with a room costing £75-100 per night in the UK.
As for Goa, I cannot praise it enough.
Some people get carried away with the cheap prices, but my partner and I spent just £350 in 2 weeks with generous tips and including souvenirs!
Beer - stay away from Fosters and Kingfisher, these beers contain Glycerine - a particularly nasty substance to us Brits not used to it. Kings beer contains none and tastes much better!
All of the food we tried was fantastic and no problems with restaurants from the cheap and cheerful to the higher priced joints.
If you have chance I recommend Le Restaurant Francaise on Baga Road. Book the day before for a top French meal for less than the cost of a MacDonalds burger meal!
Monarch should be shot for the sardine-like way you and crammed into a 757 for 10 hours.
Do not be put off though - pay a bit extra for your accomodation and you will come back year on year.
