This was by far the best holiday yet! Hotel is fantastic and well worth the money spent. Only disadvantage is that its in a quieter part of goa about 20-30min walk from the capital of Panjim and your looking about a 30min drive to baga beach / candolim etc but as taxis are so cheap - about 400 rupees to go to these places its hardly anything (don't use the hotel ones either get the ones at the bottom of the road or out on the main street)
Marriott is expensive for food/drinks considering how cheap meals are outside hotel - we hardly ate in hotel - mostly ate out at Edu's / Dehli Darbar / Naandan
we tried mums kitchen although good we preferred Edus (just up road from it) for atmosphere and food - there is also a small supermarket round the corner which was good value for bottles of water / crisps etc. Panjim is about a 30min walk from hotel though you can get a 'toot toot' (small 3 wheeler bike / car thing - you have to see it to see what I mean) which will cost you about 30-50 rupees one way to/from Panjim. Panjim itself is very nice to walk around at and there are churches / squares to see and its worth a look round the market for really cheap belts / wallets / bags / jewellery etc - locals are open to haggling but we found prices so cheap 200 rupees for a leather belt that we paid mostly what was asked.
The saturday market between baga and Anjuna is worth going to but be prepared to haggle hard - we took a taxi which took us there and back for 800rupees
We also took taxi for the day to see the temples in Ponda and a spice plantation farm, he also took us to baga beach for a tailor and returned us to hotel all for cost of 1000 rupees
We also visited Candolim and areas round this we also went to Club Cubana - fab nightclub in the middle of nowhere - ladies get in free about 600 rupees for men but drinks free all night - worth a visit if into clubs. We also went to go to Club Tito's however on arriving there it appears that a lot of local men go there to eye up or more the european women regardless if you are with a man or not - something to be aware of.
Would advise you get a rough guide / travel book as this will give further pointers of what to see / do and we found it very useful didn't organise any trips through first choice as local taxis can do it for a lot cheaper.
Overall it was an fantastic holiday and would recommend anyone to go to Goa and the Marriott

This was definately the best holiday ever.
I had checked this site and followed the advise of the contributors and visited EDU's, nothing to look at from the outside but do not be put off. The food and service was excellent and very cheap. (avg £4-7 incl drinks). The Taxis at the bottom of the drive were also very good. (a special mention of Babou who gave us so much information on Goa and even brought us lunch one afternoon that he had cooked himself). It is one of the first holiday I have had when I have not suffered from a poorly tum. The staff at the hotel were also very helpful.
The people we met in Goa are amongst the most helpful you will find anywhere, nothing seems to be too much trouble and they will go out of there way to make sure you are happy. Coco beach was good with no hassle from sellers (Lovely Jubbly beach shack) Most of the beach shacks offer a free sunbed and umberella if you purchase a drink and a snack. Baga beach is very busy and there can be some hassle. The airport is chaotic but I still cannot wait to return
Firstly,If you fly with Excelairways, as we did, upgrade to Premier Class for a much more comfortable journey. We were upgraded further to first class on outbound flight, so the holiday got off to an excellent start!!

It was our first time in Goa, but we've been to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia etc lots of times - so we could compare and contrast.
Goa we found to be quite an experience and one we will definitely repeat soon.
The Hotel was supurb, after we'd argued for 7 hours to get our correct rooms. Talking to other people, it seems they try to put people in cheaper rooms than they have booked as a routine, but stick to your guns as we did and demand what you want - you'll get it eventually. We stayed in Executive Rooms which are quite luxurious AND on Floor 3 SOUTH Wing ONLY. They will try to tell you inferior rooms elsewhere in the hotel are executive, but they are not - just the ones above.
Otherwise the hotel was outstanding. The staff were falling over themselves to please - check out BRUNO, one of the Pool Bar waiters, he's a smashing chap.
Eat out of the hotel. It's a fraction of the cost and much tastier. Try EDU's and Deli Dhurbar just up the road, but avaiod Mum's Kitchen (we were told all the food is frozen and it tastes like it is. A good 2 course meal for 5 including all our drinks cost us 750-850 rupees at most places - 10 times more in the hotel.
Visited Candolin,Calangute (good shopping places) Panaji, Waterfalls, southern beaches and hotels etc. Local Taxis - not from the hotel, just go to the bottom of the drive - are cheap and cheerful and will get you anywhere. Don't pay any more than 1000 rupees for a full day's hire though.
Excellent place, excellent hotel and we are looking forward to going back soon,

Back to the hotel to relax and boy what a hotel! The staff at the Marriott are by far the most helpful and polite we have ever come across! The on site facilities are top notch.Bacardi Breezers at maybe 1/4 the price from my local! Great service by the pool and at night In the resturants, fantastic entertainment especially the ";Goan Evening";! Need to cool off during the day? Head for the patisserie In the hotel,5 star goodies! Don't make the same mistake as us, you MUST go for 2 weeks as Indeed we will next time! Overall-Hotel-Staff-Location-Holiday-5 STAR PLUS.

Although the beach is not the best in Goa the hotel is situated looking out on to the Mandovi river it is worth paying extra for a seaview room and watch the beautiful sunsets sipping a GandT.Use the taxi rank in the road outside the hotel for all your excursions much cheaper than those offered by the holiday companies they will take you to all the places of interest, and any beaches. They will wait all day for you and bring you back to the hotel for between £8 and£!0.Good beaches nearby are Candolim beach (no sellers allowed)and Utorda beach very quiet with a few beach shacks.good places to eat in the resort centre, just round the corner are Mums Kitchen for good Goan food,Edus which is very cheap but also tasty indian and chinese food you can also get Pizzas here.
In Panjim the Delhi Darbar is very popular for tandoori and other North Indian cuisine.Other good restaurants in the capital are the Punjab Classic and in the old Portugese Quarter Hotel Venites for good seafood and Goan cuisine very cheap. The restaurant is very atmospheric a bit ramshackle but do not be put off.Use the auto-richshaws to get to Panjim much cheaper than using the taxis there is a rank behind Magsons supermarket in the main road. There are also designer shops near the Delhi Darbar, Lacoste,Nike,Reebok, levis etc and a good leather bag shop called Hi-design which supplies Harrods and John Lewis.
