The first time we arrived at the santiago we all thought what have we come to. We were in a party of 12 and we all thought the same thing, having young teenagers with us they were very dissapointed. But within one or maybe two hours we all had forgotten everything. The hotel staff cannot do enough for you, make you feel important. make you feel like one of the family. The food is fantastic. even though I dont eat indian food I can only stomach a korma, there is a lot more to choose from. We enjoyed it that much as soon as we came home we booked to go back for a month, We Have been for the month and had another memorable holiday. This time 22 of us went and everyone enjoyed themselves. We have also booked to go back fo a month once again.

Baga beach is a magnet to beggers and traders which can be very annoying, especially the little children that beg. Older children with play a small drum the younger dance and then expect you to give them money.A lot of people would encourage this by clapping and giving them money, then a few minutes later there would be back wanting more money. In two weeks I went there once. lots of lovely unspolit beaches near by. Baga beach is full of beach shacks which service food and drink all day. Sun beds are free if you stay at one shack all day. One place wanted to charge 300 rupees an hour for a sunbed. Shop about for massages,or goods that you may buy can be got for half the price elsewhere. Worth a visit just to experience the hassle.

Riverside regency is very clean, but basic. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Food is of a good standard. My husband and I eat there every day, for two weeks ,no upset stomachs or diahorrea. There use botle water to cook with and prepare salads. The swimming pool is clean but small, but on a hot day who cares. The taxi's outside are licenced which is good, very reasonable charges. The gardens are well kept.excellent wildlife that visit the garden are fruit bats, monkeys mongoose, snakes. on the other side of the river sea eagles are nesting, red kites can be seen. We will return.
after you get used to the very poor quality of the roads and the non existant pavements the beach at baga is stunning .

the bar staff and waiters were so friendly and helpful it helped to take your mind off the poor quality of the food and the drab condition of the rooms, the whole place badly needs updating.

the standards of food hygene give cause for concern.food is poor and the restaurant is in what was a tennis court cage. bar prices are high.the rooms are in need of refurbishment. it gets worse every time we go,this year its time for a change

our holiday was brilliant!! Goa is amazing and people that say its not i really dont know whats going on in their heads!!! at the beira mar the rooms are basic but all you need a toilet/show/sink.....a bed which are not uncomfortable they are just right!wardrobes mirror/dressing table....and balcony the room i had was on the 3rd floor and our room was good! people who moan about the hotel probably expect 4star! well this is a 2star hotel and is in india so what do people expect!you get what you pay for...the staff are great, cant do enough for you!....the food is lovley..breakfast is nice...toast with butter or jam/marmalade that is free and you get an orange juice with it as well or instead you could pay for any other breakfast on the menu and is very very nice especially the eggs the are orangic too! the pools in the hotels are good too perfect views from the 1st pool nearest the bar! the only bad thing is that the bar closes at exactly 11pm and its not good for people who like a drink!! A great shack on the beach just down the road from the hotel is "skylark" the staff are great most people who go there are from coventry but were not...we met some great people there and will be going back next year also the food is brilliant very very tasty and there are many many soft drinks to choose from my favorite is the banana lassi and the rasberry splash all made from scrath!!! overall goa is a fantastic place and this year we are going for 4weeks and will be going again next year most probably and every year after that! dont listen to all the bad reviews them people are just snobs that dont realise that india is a 3rd world counrty and there is alot of poverty!

This was the sixth and last time to baga. the thing we always feared seems to have happened to goa. it has become so busy both with europeans and indian holidaymakers that the quaint charm and the standards have nosedived. the only good restaurant we could find was lazy days in the CSM road,(excellent), and some of the old politeness and eagerness to please seems to have gone. wives even said a couple of times that they felt a bit uneasy on their own (always felt safe before) to be honest we may as well have been in benidorm, at least the food poisoning would not have been so rife. what a shame, have some great memories of the place as it was.
hotel very run down, pumped sewage out back after dark, electricity failed almost every night (not grid fault) restaurant ok, staff tried hard but a losing battle
