We have just returned from our holiday at the Galaxy Beach Resort in Utorda South Goa. We had a truly wonderful holiday and you really couldn't fault it. The hotel was very nice and we only had BandB and the breakfasts were really nice. It has a lovely fresh water pool that is kept spotless by Iran the pool boy who loves to play frisbee with you. The rooms are kept spotless every day with fresh towels and clean linen.
Places to eat:
We used to spend the day at the beach and eat at Lloyds beach shack most days. If you eat there the sun beds are free. Should you decide to go there ask for Angelo (he will also change your money for you at a much better rate than the hotel).
Evening dining:
We visited a new restaurant that had just opened called Sinatra Chilly and found it a really nice experience. Lawrence is the head waiter and is a real character and very attentive. The food is great too and really good prices.
The top of the tree to eat is Fusion. A little more expensive but really worth it. The food and the owners are absolutely fab. They usually introduce you to the newest member of the team who is 4 months old and named Kiki - really cute.
We also used to eat at the Pentagon which was a nice experience.
For taxis, walk up to the beach and see Simon as he is much cheaper than the taxis at the front of the hotel. There is a little shop around the corner called Victors who is also very helpful and has lots of things in his aladdins cave. If you need to telephone it can be done really cheaply from outside Victors shop and will cost you a fraction of either a mobile call and the hotel. You can buy an Indian sim card for your mobile phone which will cost you 600 rupees (roughly £8.00) and you would need to see Simon who will arrange this for you. Apparently the calls are reasonably cheap this way as well. All you can do now is have a really great holiday. Oh, and the weather was faultless, about 90- 100 degrees every day but not humid. We can certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay there and the only drawback is that the service is a little slower in the dining room than you would expect. PS - don't eat at the hotel only breakfast as it is really expensive and you will pay over double the price of anywhere else. Enjoy.

You arrive at this hotel from Gatwick at 6.30am in the morning. You cannot get into your room until after midday. This means you have been traveling for about 20 hours (more if you live some distance from airport). This hotel does not offer a courtesy room for you to have a shower or change of clothes. Reception staff utterly useless, during our stay they received a message for us on a Tuesday and wrote it down on a piece of paper adding the words 'URGENT', they gave us the message on Saturday. We asked about local buses, shops or if they had a local map, no help at all. Dinner is on lawn, we watched them lay everything out in the afternoons, then went round the grounds spraying insecticide which landed on the plates, knives and forks and serving dishes on the tables. Breakfast is what you normally get in the Costa's of Spain, fatty streaky bacon, small hotdog sausages, boiled or fried eggs cerial and watered down fruit juice. Money exchange rate at hotel worst in Goa, cheaper to take taxi to town and use the bank. Best local place for dinner: Sinatras Chillie about 12 min walk or 3min in taxi. Best taxi service as mentioned in other rviews Simon at beach end of hotel. He is reliable and will give you local information. Lloyds shack has now gone Russian to accomodate the large number of east europeans now at this hotel.
