Stayed for 2 weeks form May 31st 2010. What can you say about this hotel ? Excellent views, staff, food & comfort. Will certainly be returning best for a relaxing stay, not much for kids to do. & the hill can be a bit of a struggle if you have any mobility problems.

"Most welcoming hotel - Romanza"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

I took a holiday here with my Mum when we both just needed a quiet place to relax. The hotel is situated at the top of a hill so may not be best suited for elderly or those who have difficulty with mobility but it is well worth it. The views from the hotel are trully fantastic and the couple that own the hotel are so welcoming that you feel like you have known them for longer. One of the only places I have ever wanted to recommend and will be going back.

This Hotel is a bit of a paradox as you want to give it more but you can’t....The staff are really nice and friendly. The Hotel itself lends itself to great views of the bay as all the rooms are sea facing which allows you some romantic sunsets in the evening. That said the rooms although clean are really basic, rock hard thin mattresses, and all single beds don’t let them fool you that they have doubles as they don’t, to the dismay of a couple who asked for double only to find that they pushed to singles together, there are no kettles or TVs in the rooms so you better take your own kettle if you want a quiet drink of coffee on the balcony on an evening. The combined toilet sink and shower are the pits really basic and tired with very little pressure the hot water fluctuates from warm hot and cold while you are showering. The shower base is very shallow with only a soiled curtain to pull around you which tends to stick to you as you shower, invariably the floor is wet through when you have finished. I remember going to Zanti 25 years ago and the conditions were the same I cant believe that after all these years and tourists money that they cant improve the facilities (never went back). The breakfast was very basic, a choice of toast and boiled eggs with cereals, you can have a cooked breakfast if you pay extra. One of the most annoying things about the stay was that as it was October the nights were getting chilly, we asked for some heating in the room as there was a heater which was remote controlled, however they would not turn it on unless you paid them 5 euros a day, it would be cheaper buying an electric fan heater we only needed it for when we got out of the piddley shower to keep us warm until we got dried....so basically we shivered ourselves warm. Well that’s about it its a reasonably hotel with nice staff but very very basic its not a 3 star more like a 1.5 to 2 star.

Very friendly staff, lovely food & location. The views were fantastic. We went too early in the season & there was no entertainment, but we had a wonderful time anyway.

"Excellent holiday at Romanza"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

In the 15 years we have been holidaying abroad this has been one of the genuinley freindliest places in Greece we've visited. Alex, Andreas, Marina and Eleni make you feel like special guests. We were really sad to leave. Those of you following review websites will be pleased to know that the departure of Jenny and Leo has not spoilt the Romanza. We ate there for 4 nights out of 14 and countless lunches and the food, setting, service and value were all lovely. The Prawn Sagnaki was the best I've ever had. The house wine is excellent value at 6 euros a litre. Be aware the breakfast is a little more basic this year but a full english is E2.50 and a bacon roll E1.50.

There are return guests there who were happy to share tips and info with you and if you want to make friends with others if you are a lone couple then this is the place. Thanks to Joan, Ron, Anne, Gerry, Shirley and Royston for the chats, laughs and company.

The views and sunsets are stunning. All rooms have a good view/terrace balcony, although we think the upper floor ones were slightly better. It was very hot but we didn't need to buy air con as there was a breeze if you kept the bathroom window open and the patio doors open. There were mosquito screens. We found the rooms comfortable. If you have any problems let Alex know and she gets it sorted.

The Romanza is on a big hill top about 15 mins uphill, a bit steep in places but you are allowed to cut throught the apartments next door and go through the gate which saves a few bends. Or why not stop for a drink at the Tereza halfway up the hill. They have excellent lunches there, the burgers were amazing.

Be aware that the transfer can take up to 2 & 1/2 hours not 1 & 1/4 as the airport rep told us so go to the loo at the airport. The coach stop starts around roads it wasn't designed for and can make you feel a bit queasy so prepare with water/kwells if you need to.

We ate twice at Mythica where Leo and Jenny have gone and the food was excellent, Greek but to the English Palette but we found the atmosphere a bit stilted and informal compared to some of the other resturants. Both Saturdays we ate at Yiannis grill house for the lamb on the spit. ( Yianni is Marina the barmaids dad ). This is opposite Mythica. You need to book on a Saturday but we only recommend the lamb on the Saturday. It's the best value we had as well. We also enjoyed Zorbas - excellent food, choice and value. Ozzy Oil was a nice setting and the owner Kerry sings at the end of the BBQ night. Waves onthe beach did an excellent Moussaka for 8 euros, very light and not greasy, try it watching the sunset with a glass of red!

We wish we had tried the Nafsika hotel and the Beachcomber which got good comments from the other guests but maybe next year.

We booked to excellent trips with San Sefanos travel in the town ( on the Tasty T Junction ). A boat trip to Paleokastritsia and a coach trip to Kassiopi for 57 euros for both of us. Beat that Thomsons!

We hired a 100cc quad bike from Pegasus for 20 euros for the day. You will need a 100cc one for going further afield as the hills are very steep. You can get a little 50cc quad for 15 euros which is fine for the beach. We went to Arrillas the next village which was lovely, try the Mirage pool bar there which is free and has sunken pool loungers and a swim up bar. The english lady there does coffee and homemade cakes/lunches. We ventured towards Sidari to the village of Avilotes which isn't a beach resort but a greek village looking over a stunning ravine. Try an Iced coffee and ice cream looking at the stunning view.

All in all we give this holiday 10/10 and will definatley return again.

"Wonderful Hotel"

Overall Hotel Rating:

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Romanza, where we had a wonderful holiday. We have not stayed in an hotel were the staff are so friendly. Our room was a good size with a balcony with amazing sea views. There was a fridge in the room which was great for keeping water etc in. Our room was serviced daily (except Sunday only bins) and linen was changed at least 3 times during our stay and towles almost every other day. The hotel was kept very clean and tidy. The breakfast was self service with bread and jam, cereals, juice, tea/coffee and you could buy a cooked breakfast at a small cost. Lunch and Dinner prices in the restaurant were very reasonable and the food was excellent. The BBQ Night and Greek Night were great fun, and well worth attending. The Pool was kept very clean with plenty of loungers, and the view from the pool area was outstanding. The path to the beach was rather steep but not too much of a problem, and only took about 5 minutes in either direction at a comfortable speed. The road returning to the hotel was less steep and took approx 10 minutes, but did not cause a problem. We found a couple of the local supermarkets would deliver to the hotel to save carrying up the hill. It will be very difficult to find an hotel to match up to the Romanza and I can see why people return year after year.

Brilliant holiday. Went to the ROMANZA in 2008, had a great time. Our room had a view of the beach, and all rooms have sea & sunset view (which is really amazing). Food was brilliant at the hotel, but cheaper in the village, i really enjoyed Zorbas.

Walk down the road is not that bad, just dont try it in the heat of the day. The town only has one road and not a lot really to do, but if you want a relaxing holiday, this is the best place to visit. Beach is only down the steep path, again dont try it at the heat of the day. Beware that the right of the path is the nudist section, it didn't bother me but i know of others at the hotel who were shocked at it for some reason.

Definitely be back in the future!

This was our first holiday abroad, we could not have wanted a more friendly hotel than this, every one made us very welcome more like old friends than strangers. You could not fault the cleanliness and the food was excellent. We only had one day a bit rainy the rest of our holiday was sunny and warm. If we had another holiday in Corfu we wouldn't hesitate to go again.

This was not our first time to San Stefanos, but our first at the Romanza hotel. My wife and I found it to be ideal. THe staff were amazing, from Leo and the lovely Jenny who run the bar pool and restaurant, the receptionists Alex and Marina,to the cleaners who kept the rooms spotless. The linen and Towels were changed every 3rd day. The bar was excellent and drinks were reasonable The veiw from the hotel is breathtaking and the sunsets were unbelievable. There is a steep hill up to the hotel, my wife and I are in our sixties and really it didn't bother us, even in tempreatures of 30 degrees. All in all a wonderful hotel,so good I have booked for next year !!

We visited the Romanza for the second time in June 2008 after our previous holiday in September 2007. It was once again an excellent holiday. The food in the hotel is first class and there is a wide choice on the menu. The view from the restaurant area at night is fantastic - don't forget your camera. The walk up and down the hill is a bit tiring but you will be fit when you get back home. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

We arrived at the Romanza late at night and were taken straight to our room by Jenny who was doubling up as receptionist that evening. Our first impression of our room was that it was a bit weary and the bathroom left a lot to be desired but the views next morning made up for it they were fantastic, we could see the harbour, village and great seaviews. The food at the Romanza was good but we preferred some of the many restaurants in the village especially the Beachcomber Bistro which was run by an English lady called Sue, unlike all the others they didnt serve Greek food BUT have a menu that was mouthwatering!!!The staff at the Romanza were very helpful and Helena who served breakfasts always had a smile on her face unlike Spiros who always seemed dour faced ,Jenni and Leo ran the restaurant and Bar along with Tracy who worked in the bar upstairs and she was always pleasant to everyone .The weather was great except the wind which was sometimes wild and i wont mention the hills as everyone else has done so.It was a very relaxing holiday for us and we had a very nice send off when we left from Costas and his wife Helena and Christina the receptionist

Arrived late at night to be greeted by Jenny who took us straight to our room so we could get settled in , I had asked for a double room with seaview and thats what we got, the view when we got up next morning was fantastic we had a corner room no5 and the view of the resort along with the harbour was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble for them, and Heleni the young lady who served breakfast in the restaurant always had a smile on her face no matter how busy she was.The only problem with the Hotel was the hill and the walk to and from the village on hot days it could be tiring, the resort is small and compact with enough bars and restaurants to keep visitors happy so they had a varied chose of eateries. The beach was clean and safe for families to use and shelved out a long way into the sea.The food at the Romanza was good with a huge menu to choose from and Jenny kept the restaurant running smoothly,Also we tried all the other restaurants in the village including The Little Prince ,Zorbas,Nafsika, and The Olive Press they all produced the same type of menu Zorbas i would say being the better of them.We also tried a new one called the Beachcomber Bistro which is opposite the Olive Press and Nafsika. It opened in July, the decor was very contemporary and is run by a lady called Sue and her partner, the menu is not greek fare but international cuisine of a very high standard we ate there a couple of times ad could not fault the surroundings ,food or the level of service and i recommend it as the best in San Stefanos. The day we left the Romanza we were sorry to go as we had enjoyed our stay there as everybody had been so friendly especially the staff Jenny ,Tracy, Heleni,Christina,Yannis,Spiros and Costas and his wife they gave us a nice send off which was very much appreciated by everybody.
