This hotel has the very best location, right next to the sea. I would recommend Socrates to anybody who wants a relaxing holiday or a party holiday, as it is just the right location to relax and also not too far from the centre of the resort.

My family and I stayed at the socrates in aug 2009. The location is great we love this area and were right in the heart of it. But thats the only good point about these apt. The staff are very unfriendly if they smiled thier faces would crack. It didnt matter wether you were spending money or not. They had no time for you we felt very unwelcome and it didnt make us relaxed which is what you go on holiday for. We have been to sidari three times now. We went last year at the same time but last year we went to the stema II it couldnt be more different to the socrates the staff are friendly and fun. Unlike the socrates. It was hard work they didnt make conversation with you they just wanted your money and then you could gat lost. It seemed to us that because it was in such a good location they feel they dont have to make the effort. The rooms are basic but fairly clean. We were on the ground floor which we didnt like because when people go backwards and forwards they walk past your terrace so when you sit onout thre you dont have any privacy. Also most of the time you have to keep the curtains shut for the same reason. Everytime the maids did clean they left the patio doors open so if you went out and shut them when you came back they were open.I didnt like this as it was easy to climb over because some of the teenagers did that instead of going round to thier doors. From a security point of view i didnt feel our belongings were safe. This is the place for you if you like ignorant staff who dont care wether your there or not .....

"Socrates Apartment Review"

Excellent

Open quote

Have just returned from a lovely, relaxing 2 weeks stay in Sidari at Socrates Apartments. We arrived late Friday evening and were shown to our apartment personally by Maria. We had a one bedroom apt above the bar, however we were not really disturbed by noise. Thursday was Greek night and was quite popular and got a bit rowdy but was not unbearable.

Our room was quite large, with four single beds, two in the main room, two in the bedroom. There was only one wardrobe so my teenagers were living out of their suitcases in the lounge, which was not ideal but ok. Like a lot of Greek accomodation, facilities were basic. We had to ask for extra cutlery and plates as there was only three of everything when there was four of us staying. No plugs for the sinks or washing up bowl, so you have to be creative with utensils! We did hire the "air conditioning" which seemed old and a little inadequate, didn't really have any benefit in the main room as it was just a blower on the floor in the corner of the room, not wall mounted units that we have had at other apts. The maids did come in every day to empty bins and clean the bathroom and the linen was changed about three times. They were a few ants in the bathroom and on the balcony but did not bother us.

The pool and surrounding area was cleaned every evening and there was always plenty of sunbeds and umbrella's. It is free and open to everyone so it is not just used by hotel guests but this seemed to be the norm and being right on the sea front, was never over crowded.

We found all the staff very friendly and helpful, especially Louise behind the bar who was lovely! There were guests who were obviously regulars and very chatty with Socrates but we did not find him rude or only interested in certain people - you get out what you put in, and we were quite happy to keep ourselves to ourselves and were not forced to participate in anything.

WARNING - There are thousands of mosquito's and midges!!!!! It was mentioned on our transfer from the airport but we were totally unprepared and my youngest daughter was bitten to bits and looked like she had chicken pox! They do sell repellants, etc, at the local shops but it very expensive so it may be worth taking plenty of products with you.

Socrates Apartments are the best located accomodation we have ever stayed at. The view from our balcony was stunning! Looking out over the sea and Albania watching the sunrise while having breakfast was very memorable. We will definately return and would recommend this accomodation to families with older children and couples of all ages. There is no kids club so may not be suitable for families with really small children and babies as they might get a little bored.

"our honeymoon"

on our arrival Socraties was quite abrupt and just handed us the keys. Found him ignorant unless you spent most of your time in the hotel. The location is beautiful, maybe thats why the staff don't feel the need to make you feel welcome. We only had the basic equiptment in our studio, which would of made it difficult to prepare a meal should we of chose to. In spite of this we had a lovely Honeymoon by eating at some of the many taverners round and about. One that stood out the best for us was Maria's Beach Hotel where we was made to feel both comfortable and very welcome.

We arrived very late at night, socrates totally ignored us as some of his regulars walked in before us so he ran behind the bar to see to them, we were given keys by Maria and pointed in the right direction!! Beds were like stone, towels only changed twice in the two weeks we were there, we had ants on the kitchen area, supposed to be self catering and had to ask for toaster which we had to wait 4 days for untill someone went home. Maids were very ignorant. And to top the lot, the air con was only available on the last two days of our holiday, but since when have you had to pay for it??? 4.80 euros a day!!! I'v never paid for it before!! The pool area and gardens were very clean however. Their bar and resteraunt was a bit more expensive than everywhere else. I think the most conversation we had with socrates was when he was being funny with my hubby about the fact that I only wanted 1 piece of ice in my drink!!

Position of hotel is 2nd to none, fantastic position. you can use pool or go down to the sea. socrates seems only friendly if your spending money at his hotel, unless you speak to him he rarely acknowledges you as a paying guest. We went self catering, 2 adults,2 children, i was led to believe self catering being, self cater for yourselves, apts were very basic, 2 electric rings, 1 saucepan 1 stewing pot and your usual plates, knifes and forks, no toaster, no microwave, asked for a toaster and got 1, 3 days later after he had told us a number of stories why we hadnt got them in our room. Very little space for clothes. Changing of towels was once a week, bed linen once a week, cleaning of room every day , that being your bins only. Also we shared the room with un invited guests..... ANTS . The apt was full of ants. no air con unless you paid for it 4.80 euros a day, within the hours they gave you. Entertainment was poor, we were asked to book a table for greek night because theres not many left, the night was cancelled due to lack of interest ! Ate there one night and food was good, but more expensive than more friendly places. We went for these apts due to the write ups, but must admit apart from the location we found the apts poor. We did look at other apts whilst out there that we would like to try. But everyone to there own, this is just our honest opinion and experience.

"Best Accommodation in Greece"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Just returned from a great 2 weeks at Socrates. Best accommodation we've had in Greece. Socrates is in the quieter part of Sidari, away from the bussle and night life of the main drag. We were made really welcome and pool and sunbeds are all free. The sea is right along side so you could swim in either. Great Greek night at Soctrates. The hotel food was good but a little more expensive than in the local restaurants. We enjoyed Mythos and Konani restaurants. We would certainly go back there again.

What a great place these apartments are. We spent 2 weeks here and loved it. Location was outstanding right next to the sea, staff excellent and very friendly which made it feel very personal. Rooms were spotlessly clean. located in a quieter area of Sidari but only a short walk to the centre of Sidari. Would highly recommend these apartments.

I visited this resort wih my partner & our 3 boys aged 11, 12 & 14. We all had a fabulous holiday. The apartments were spacious and clean, the ground kept spotless and the pool area lovely. What really made the holiday was the excellent staff who couldn't do enough to help. The food was great too. The only down side was the lack of onsite entertainment, however a five minute walk into the town provided plenty to do for everyone.

Position of hotel is excellent, the beach is very close by, very short walk. Socrates seems quite unfriendly unfortunately, and largely ignores you unless you are a regular . We asked for a toaster and got 1, 3 days later after a variety of stories about why we couldn't have one! Very little space for clothes. Changing of towels was once a week, which is not often enough!

We stayed at the Socrates Apartments during June 2008 - and what a fantastic place! Me and my boyfriend were met by Socrates himself, who was very welcoming, and said we should treat the place like our home for the next 2 weeks. Room 201 is by far the best 1 bed apart if you go as a couple - massive balcony! Had great views over Albania, and balcony was sunny all day! food at the Rock Restaurant is great, and the cocktails are great too. All the team working at Socrates are by far the friendliest I have ever encountered within Greece. The Greek night Thurs night is good fun, as is bingo night! The bar is great at night, with lots of free shots! Would have no hesitatation about returning next year, as we loved it.

I have just arrived back from Socrates Apartments and I cannot find fault with the apartments.

We were on the second flight in at the start of the season and we were welcomed like old friends from the start, the rooms were spotless, recently painted and have everything we needed, a bed and a kettle. The view is spectacular on a clear day you can see Albania and the waters are crystal clear. We went straight to dinner and I would thoroughly reccoment the beef with sambuca the meat was so tender it literally melted in your mouth. We ate there quite a few times and the meals were very well cooked and a resonable price. We spent most of our days by the pool and Louise looked after us very well, bringing our drinks and food and clearing up after us all the time. Places to go in the resort is Mickey's for proper Mash potato and Cactus Jack for breakfast, a good night dancing is at "one for the road" excellent DJ and a good band on a Wednesday night. Only went on one trip to the monastery, bit dissapointed at the monastery, but go for the views from the hilltop absolutely breathtaking, we did not book through our rep, because the prices are triple what you pay down in the resort. e.g., trip to albania, 60euros through rep. 23 from operator in resort. quite a large difference We had a great time in Sidari even though at first there was only about 200 people there, by the end of the week we had made loads of friends both local and holidaymakers and will definately go there again.
