Aghios Nikolaos review
"Something for everyone"
resort to a friend
This is a fairly small town centring on The Lake which is surrounded by bars and restaurants. It is a very picturesque area and quite bustling by day and night, though remaining very civilised. There are lots of shops and a weekly market. If you take the time to walk the perimeter of the town there are small beaches, beachside restaurants, swimming etc. There really is something for everyone here.

Aghia Marina review
"Great Beach Good Seelction of Restaurant"
resort to a friend
Aghia Marina is basically one long road parallel to the beach. Go across the road down onto the beach and turn right, you can then walk along the beautiful sandy shore. The round trip will take about an hour and a half if you go right to the end. Turn left on the road and it is about half an hours walk into the neighbouring resort of Platanias. Here you can extend the choice of restaurants and super markets. Both Aghia Marina and Platanias have ‘old towns’ set back on slightly higher ground.
There is a tremendous choice of restaurants, mostly family run, that have been operating for many years and all offering great quality, and quantity meals, at very reasonable prices. You can wash the meal down with a litre of local wine for 5 – 8 euros. We ate in a number of restaurants and didn’t have a bad meal. Our top three are ;
Manilos – in the old town of Aghia Marina. A lovely little restaurant where you sit under the vines and enjoy traditional food in a relaxed environment
Mitsos – off the main road with great sea views, great food and service
Romantz – just up a side road, next to Romeos which is sign-posted on the main road. Run by three brothers it is in its’ 26th year, the quality of their meat was excellent

As we go walking for several days of our holidays, the resort was really well placed for getting about (by hire car) and walking/exploring the whole of western Crete. It is very central between two main towns and within easy access of as many mountains and some super walks as you'd ever want.

Malia review
"A huge array of restaurants and shops "
resort to a friend
There is an endless choice of restaurants and bars in Malia all offering great quality and value-for-money. We went in May 2010 which is a time of real uncertainty to Greece and I think many of the owners of hotels and restaurants are having a tough time but you would never have guessed that from their friendly and cheerful outlook.

The resort was quiet and ideal for people looking for a holiday without noisey bars or nightclubs. The taverners in the town were very good. The beaches were very clean and ideal for familys with young children.

And what better way to enjoy the calm surroundings than from the comfort of a lounger? The sun terrace is dotted with sunbeds and parasols, so there’s no need to put your towels down before sunrise. And if you follow the sound of ice cubes clinking into a glass, you’ll find the handy pool bar. Inside, you’ll find a few bits and bobs to keep you entertained. There’s a pool table where you can show off your skills with a cue. And internet access should you want to send a speedy e-postcard home.

We stayed at the Koni Village aprtments near Stalis, Crete for a week from May 13th-20th 2010. These apartments are spotless and are of a high quality of tidiness, cleanliness and decoration, the room was large, with a decent view of the sea, which was also private, all amenities were satisfactory and the 2 pools were excellent, but there is a downside, the hotel is a good 10 minute walk to the seaside and bars, this includes a very fast, dangerous road, but there is an underpass which is so tiny only one person a time can go through, then when you get to the hotel it is a very steep walk up to the apartments, and I mean steep, if you have breathing and/or walking difficulties then forget it. The bar, shop and restaurant were all very expensive so rarely used them, £2.40 for a tin of soup is extortion. This time of year was very quiet, sometimes too quiet, most restaurants in the town were deserted which made the owners desperate for your custom, every one you pass they pester you until it becomes annoying, this happened every night at nearly every restaurant, it totally spoilt a good walk. We did two excursions, one for horse riding at £55 each which was excellent, and a Land Rover Safaris which was also excellent at £75 each both included barbeque dinners. Stalis is inbetween the towns of Horsonissos and Malia and to be honest was second best, Malia is a dump and should be avoided unless you like night clubbing and being sick and fighting every night, Horsonissos is the best with a little more culture and class, Stalis is just bar after bar after restaurant after gift shops, but has some good beaches and good deals on drinks and food packages. Also go on a bus for an hour and visit Argios Nicholaus which is lovely and has a great little port and lakes. All in all we had a good week but will not go back, it's all a bit too British for us and much prefer France or somewhere a litlle more classy.

Perfect, from the beaches to places to eat & the overall costs. If you want a bargain on clothes then its perfect for you but bear in mind you prob wont be getting the real label but instead a fake. I bought 4 lacoste t shirts for my partner & even he said they looked real! Night times as you can expect are very busy, we used our evenings enjoying a glass of wine over looking the boats but if your looking to party then there are lots of noisy nightclubs to choose from. No matter what your age there is def something for everyone hear. I cant wait to go back but this time im going with a couple of girls from work so I will def leave a review of the nightclubs that ive been to, overall highly recommended by myself, partner & daughter. It does get extremley hot there but thats to be expected, prob even want to retire there one day.....
