Plakias is in a beautiful location just beneath the mountains...lovely views everywhere but it is a bit out of the way. It takes at least 90 mins to get to Heraklion and the main attractions such as Knossos (which was closed for renovation) Lots of Resaturants reasonably priced but everyone seemed to have the same menu...fish was very expensive but stright from the sea..Try koukouvaia as a lunch or starter..really nice.Service is friendly and they remeber you if u go back. Not that many of the tavernas accept cards tho so check before u order. The real problem we found was there was nothing to do after dinner..hardly any bars with music..was struggle to find things to do after 9pm..its fine if u just want to sit in a bar or taverna but we like a bit of entetainment. there is one nightclub in Plakias which opened at 11pm didnt go there so dont know if its any good.

The beach is huge and there is a gang of tame geese patrolling it..bit shingley at rocks just beyond the shore line can make it hard to get into the sea..there is a better beach around past the harbour.

PLakias has a good selection of shops and supermarkets..my daughters loved shopping here.

One more thing Plakias sometimes experiences the "Plakias Wind". For the first 3 days it was blowing down from the mountains hard enought topple over a 25 kilo suitcase and to blow my 14yo daughter out into the road..died out on day 4 and was fine after.

One thing is a must here and thats to visit Mithrios..the village just above the resort in the mountains (you can walk up through the olive groves) and have lunch or dinner at one of the 2 tavernas...The views are oout of this world

Plakias is a nice place..the only thing that would stop us going back is that lack of nightlife..if that doesnt bother you then go for it.
