"Basic bed, but no breakfast"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Poor

Open quote

This is a basic hotel with no facilities in the room except a bed, wardrobe, dressing table, bathroom and a small balcony, so make sure you take your own tea making facilities and suchlike if you require these. A fan and safety deposit box are available for hire at reception.

The breakfast at this hotel was poor to say the least: bread or poor quality cereal, and tea, coffee or orange squash. We were not impressed and ended up buying food from the local supermarket most of the time.

The hotel was clean enough, with a maid 6 days a week and towels changed twice during the stay. However, the reception was often unmanned (one of the owners generally had to be sought out in the bar area) and there was no entertainment provided.

The only good point is the close proximity of the beach (about 3 minutes away) and the fact there is ample parking if you hire a car or moped. Transportation like this is definitely necessary to make the most out of staying at this resort, as other than lounging on the beach there is little to do or see (although there are some nice places to eat). The coach transfer from the airport cannot fit down the narrow roads either, so a short walk is necessary to get to the hotel when you arrive, and when you are ready to be picked up.

Overall we were glad to go home at the end of the holiday, and will not make plans to return any time soon.

The rooms at the Diana were cramped and in need of a good clean. Carpets in Greek hotels.

We had a room at the back of the property with a view overlooking another property.

The owner was friendly enough on arrival, but thereafter made us feel like it was all a bit of an effort.

We hired a fan for the week and even in May this was far from ideal.

The breakfast was disgusting!!! I have thrown better bread to the birds.

I would not go back to the Diana. Its very expensive within the Thomson range for what you actually get.

Pefkohori is a lovely place but if you go, please find somewhere else to stay.

Had a super holiday and we were happy with the hotel Diana, for the price we paid it was excellent. On saying this we did find not having air conditioning a down side as we had to leave the balcony door open overnight and so had the noise from the street to deal with. You can hire a fan if you want to pay 30 euros. I would certainly stay at the hotel again. You dont miss the fact that it does not have a swimming pool, because the beautiful beach is so close. I cant wait to go on another holiday to Pefkohori.

We booked after reading the comments on this site, and were not disappointed at all.It is exactly as described. Billy, with Mum and Dad did everything they could to make our holiday special. The hotel is small adn friendly, within 2 days everyone knew each other and most people would meet in the bar for a chat and a laugh before going out in the evening. When coming back after their night out, most guest met up again for a nightcap, until the early hours. Billy' prices and measures were very good. We made many friends during our stay, sharing stories and jokes over a drink. The resort is probably the cheapest we have been to in Greece, resturants providing excellent food at good prices. The best we found were El Greco, Maxims, Captains, even the gyros on the promenade was great.

Don't let the fact that there is no pool put you off. The beach is only a few minutes away and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, despite it being very busy and a bit crowded. Billy did tell us where we could use a pool and it was good, so no problem. The other thing mentioned on this site is no air conditioning, this did not seem too bad as Billy had fans to rent, and we used them all week as the temperature was in th 40's.

Overall the holiday was really good, exceptional value for money in a great hotel that was very clean and well run by a great family, who made our holiday as good as they could. Billy is good fun and shares a joke with everyone, (even told me that when they had the fires a few years ago, they found a diver in the burnt out forest with mask and flippers on still. He says he was picked up from the sea by the planes that were putting fires out with seawater and must have been dumped there, how unlucky was that),Yeh OK Billy we belive you !!!

We will go back to the Diana and enjoy another great holiday. many thanks to Billy and his mum and Dad for making our holiday so memorable.

We got a late deal with thomsons we knew we would be staying at either the Hilltop or Diana we hoped it would be the Hilltop but we got Diana and now i can say we were really chuffed that we did, we walked up to the hilltop one day to have a look and it was nice but a little further to walk to be in the centre of everything. where the Diana is, right in the centre of everything but it is still peaceful. The lovely beach is about 200 yards away.

From Pefkohori we walked along the coast road into Hanioti quite a few times it was a lovely walk, no hills it took us about 40 mins to walk it (it is also safe to do this walk at night as it is well lit) one of the first bars you come across at the end of the walk is The Stones which is highly recommended the ice cold Mythos is one of the best you`ll find and the food was lovely too.
Back in Pefkohori on the main road 2 mins walk from the Diana we found a beautiful Italian restaurant called La Dolcha Vita it is NOT to be missed (a Superb meal for two plus wine for less than 20 euros!)
Just opposite is one of the best cake shops we have ever been in you`ll be spoiled for choice, it`s the drop off and pick up point for the coaches.

The hotel Diana is clean, comfortable and very friendly We are definitley going to return next year.

This was our honeymoon therefore we had big expectations and happily was not dissappointed. What a great place.

Our hotel was lovely Billy the owner was very welcoming and made our stay unforgettable. The rooms in the hotel were very clean and were cleaned every day except sundays wwhen it was the maids day off.The hotel has just been refurbished recently and is really clean. The bar is quite big and comfortable and the drinks very cheap, Billy does not skrimp on his measures.

This resort is lovely the beach is only approx five mins from hotel, its a shingle beach but loads of sunbeds to hire or free in some areas if you buy a drink in one of the bars. Most of the resaurants cater to anyone and make you feel welcome.

We would return definatley.

I only booked this holiday 2 weeks before we were due to go. I chose it on the basis of the reviews I saw on this site so the least I can do is add one of my own!

We arrived on a Monday afternoon and were met at the end of the road by 'Billy', the hotel owner who kindly put all the cases onto his truck (the coach couldn't get down the side street as it is too narrow) and took them to the hotel.

As the other reviewers have said, Billy was really friendly and helpful. He couldn't have been nicer. Hotel Diana is a perfect base for staying in Pefkohori. It's clean, comfortable and at the heart of everything. Don't let that put you off as it could never be described a noisy.

The rooms are basic, but what else do you need? The bed was clean and comfortable, the balcony didn't collapse and the shower and toilet worked. When you only spend your time in your room doing the 4 S's (shower, sleep, sex and sh*t) what else do you need? 'nuf said.
Breakfast was cereal and toast and coffee, but again, who wants a full English when it's 90 degrees?

Pefkohori itself was wonderful. If you're after wild nights out and streets full of night clubs - don't go to Pefkohori. If on the other hand, you want lovely weather, blue seas, lots of restaurants and a relaxing time, this is the place for you.

All the restaurants are excellent value for money - the most we spent on any meal was 35 euros and that included quite a lot of wine! Most nights we spent about 25 euros and NEVER had a bad meal.

One of the best things about Pefkohori was the huge number of Greek people there on holiday. There weren't many English and even fewer Germans. Wonderful!
The other thing we noticed was that we didn't see a single drunk person there the whole week despite the fact that you could buy alcohol just about everywhere AND there were lots of young Greek people there...we could certainly take a leaf out of their book.

Hire a scooter and a great 15 euros a day and go further down the peninsula.some glorious beaches to visit (avoid the Blue Fish beach if you don't like crowds) and some lovely traditional villages.

On the whole we had a fabulous week and would definitely go back to both Pefkohori and Hotel Diana.

I booked a week staying at the Diana Hotel in Pefkohori. The flight from Birmingham to Thessaloniki was about 3 hours. The transport from the airport to the resort about 1hour 45min. Thomson were well organised. Diana Hotel is lovely and in a good location. The rooms were spotless and cleaned everyday apart from Sunday. There was no kettle or hair dryer in the room. Breakfast wasn't amazing. Cereal and stale bread that you can toast with jam and butter.

It was sunny for the whole week and not too hot, about 30-31 degrees. We spent the whole week on the beach. The beach is sand and shingle in most places. Go north of the pier where the beach is widest. 2 sun beds and an umbrella are 5 Euros for the whole day. We visited Chrousso beach, which was shallow and sandy. We took a taxi there for 7 Euros and 8 Euro return. You might as well take a taxi to ";Blue fish"; beach as it is part of the same beach but not as far to drive to and appeared less crowded. Didn't go to golden beach which I think is even closer. We tried many restaurants and they were all pretty good. We did have a problem with wasps at Zinis restaurant though.

Our first time to this resort and a holiday we will remember.
The weather was excellent considering it was the last week in September, sunny and hot all week.
The hotel was clean and comfortable and Billy and his family were very welcoming and friendly, as has been mentioned elsewhere.

I found the reviews on this site very useful and we tried most of the bars and restaurants recommended here.
We particularly enjoyed Maxims and Capri for food and the bar in the Old Town and the Internet Cafe for drinks, but to be honest, everywhere we went was good quality and reasonable prices.
The bakery opposite the internet cafe sold the best cakes and ice-cream ever!
The beach is wider and slightly more sandy north of the jetty. There are plenty of places to hire sunbeds and bars for snacks and drinks.
Hanioti was a good day out and only 3-4 euros in a taxi.

On the whole we had a fantastic holiday and we would not hesitate to recommend Pefkohori for a good relaxing break.

Booked to go to the Hotel Diana over the internet after reading the reviews on this website. They were excellent and will be definately going back next year. The hotel and the rooms were spotless and Billy and his family were lovely very helpful. The breakfast was basic orange juice with cereal and toast and tea and coffee which tasted just like the tea at home.

The bar was brilliant nad spent every night in there before going up to bed usually never before 2 o'clock. Billy stayed open as long as you wanted and the drinks were really cheap. The resort was great to, the cleanest place i have ever been to, plus no cockroaches or mozzy's never got bitten once. The beach was gorgeous. I carnt recommend this resort or hotel enough. If you are lucky enough to go say hello to billy and his family from us.

Hotel Diana is ok. We found the rooms to be very cramped, and very hot. Plus it was expensive to hire a fan 35 euros for two weeks. We could've bought one for 15 euros! (in the main road in the hardware store - go and buy one if you stay at the Diana). You really need a fan, as it gets very stuffy at night. When you initially walk into the hotel, you think, wow this is posh, but it's a bit dissapointing when you see your room. Very small! I must say I did like the carpet - very unusual in Greece.

You must go and eat in the Lemon Tree Taverna opposite (next to Herculise). There is a young boy (about 12) standing outside. It always looks empty, but you sit at the back under the lemon groves. The food is excellent, and cheap. Cheaper than anywhere. Afterwards they bring you water melon. Really friendly people. We even did some Greek dancing, as the owner Filip, got out his guitar!!

Go and have breakfast at the Hotel Magdalana. The owner Mikey is lovely. If you try to speak a bit of greek he loves it, and will try to teach you some more. Breakfast is really good and cost 5 euros. Go there in the evening and meet Lisa, and her mum Marie and her dad Eric. They are lovely people, who are all English, but have lived in greece for over 10 years.

You must go to Crewsow (like Robinson!) Beach. Get a cab - only 7 euros. This beach is amazing. If you have children its great. The water is lovely and shallow and warm with beautiful sandy beaches.

We've been to many islands and this our first time to mainland Greece and we're definitely going back. The people are so friendly. There's plenty to do and lots to see. If you want it busy you can, and if you want it quiet you can.

Our second visit to Pefkohori, and yet another lovely hotel ! (see my reviews of Hotel ";Ammon Garden"; also).

Hotel ";Diana"; is a ";Gem"; !. Wonderfully clean and comfortable, and the decor is truly amazing for a Greek hotel of this size. Billy, the owner takes exceptional pride and care in this aspect of his hotel, and is planning even more improvements.

Billy and his family (Mum and Dad) are friendly, bright, cheerful, and do all that they can to make your stay as happy and relaxing as it can be, and believe me ... it CAN be at the ";Diana";

In the (well stocked) bar, as mentioned in previous reviews, ";Happy Hour"; ?? runs from 8:00 p.m. till Midnight, and the bar closes .... when it closes !
BUT, in line with Billy's thoughtfulness regarding his guests, there are notices around reminding everyone that other guests may be sleeping, and a particular reminder to keep the bar door closed. Our room was just down the corridor from the bar, and we never heard a sound from it on the nights when we were ";early to bed";.

The ";Diana"; is situated centrally for EVERYTHING, but there is no intrusive noise despite two Taverna's across the road. The ";Hercules"; opposite, has an exceedingly extensive menu, excellent food, and is most convenient for simply staggering across the (narrow) road back to the ";Diana";. Another favourite is ";Captain's"; - across the main road, and just about in line with the Diana - where the ";Liver and Onions"; is to die for, and where Petros the owner provides cushions for the chairs, but for the ladies only !! (If you get to know him well chaps, he can be peruaded !!).
If your taste is for ";Pasta";, or ";Pizza"; then you MUST go to ";Capri"; (on the main road, somewhere behind the Diana ). The spaghetti dishes are delicious, and enormous ! and I'll bet you can't finish one of their Pizza's ! (not in one sitting anyhow !)

All in all, a wonderful holiday at the ";Diana";, but please don't go rushing to book 'cos we want to be able to get in again !

We have been back now for nearly 2 weeks and I so wish we were still lying on the beach in Pefkohori. It is a beautiful place and the hotel is lovely too. Billy and his family are remarkable, very friendly, helpful and obliging, and the drinks are really cheap too. The Thomson rep, Michelle is very nice too, also very obliging and friendly.

If you get a chance to go on the sunshine cruise then make sure you do it, it is a fabulous day out, the secluded beach is beautiful and turtle island is definately worth seeing, and to top the day off the captain is very amusing!
The greek night is also very good, a little expensive at around 40 euros each but a good night out all the same and plenty of flowing wine!

If you like Indian food then make sure you visit the Indian restaurant in the old town, very very nice food! Again this can be quite expensive as all the food is priced individually not as a meal.

Unfortunately we won't be going back to Pefkohori for a while as I have just found out I am expecting! So be careful of that greek sunshine people.....!
