"Grand View Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
After reading previous reviews but having already booked we were a bit apprehensive and asked for rooms with a view. When we got there we were on the top (2nd floor) rooms 9 and 10 and they were OK with a stunning view. The rooms were small and basic but were clean.
The cooking facilities comprised 2 electric hotplates. There was a fridge and plenty of cupboard space - we even got 2 suitcases in them. There was only fairly basic pots pans and cutlery and the ";kettle"; is a long narrow suacepan with a long handle - no kettles.
The bathroom was Ok but the shower was just the shower tray - no curtain or curtain rail. No plugs for the bathroom or kitchen sinks. Apparently this is to stop you overfilling them and making a claim!
There are 18 rooms and most are like ours but rooms 13 to 18 are on the ground level at the back and no. 13 in particular is very dark and smells - the people in 13 had to move out to another appartment.
The appartments are on a hill overlooking Argostoli and Lassi. it is a 20/25 minute walk down to Lassi and about 30 min to Argostoli. If you don't hire a car you can walk down and get a taxi back for 5 euros from either L or A. For 4 of us this was OK.
The pool was good and cleaned daily with about 18 newish sunbeds and parasols.
Overall this was not a bad spot for adults but the owners could make it so much better with a little effort and modest spending. The owner and another young woman came at about 9.00am everyday and I could only assume there were two to stop each other being bored to death - they did virtually nothing! The one would go to the shop if someone wanted to buy something and the older woman watered the flowers once all week! At sometime mid afternoon they disappeared. Shower curtains, plugs and a little attention from the owners would make a big difference.
We had no trouble with dogs, cats or building next door etc.
Lassi was quiet when we were there but had ample bars and restaurants with reasonable prices We were not over impressed with Argostoli but did catch the 1/2 hourly ferry to lixouri one day.
We went on the Onassis cruise to Scorpios and the trip to 2 wineries and St Georges castle. This meant we saw most of the island without hiring a car. The guide for these trips was very good. We only went on the beach once but is was very good but the sunbeds were 4 euros each.
If you do go and walk from Lassi to The appartments or vice versa the you pass the Olive Garden appartments which welcomes visitors, has a good bar with good meals and a pool. It is only 10 minutes walk from the GV.
P.S only 20 mins from the airport which was a refreshing change.

"Grand View Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
After looking at the holidays uncovered site before leaving for my Greek hols this year (2004) - I was apprehensive and nervous of the previous comments about the Grand View. So, i thought i would give you my opinion.
The Grand View is YES.... BASIC, but not unclean. Bedding is changed twice a week along with towels, the only furniture within the apartment was beds, dining table (with 3 chairs) and 2 x bedside cabinets next to the double bed, (which was the main bedroom) my children slept out in the main part - usually the other way round - but didn't cause a problem, might if your children are younger though!!The owners could do alot more with the grounds, could of been much more beautiful, more flowers, shrubs, pots, etc. as like some of the other apartments, hotels. The Pool was completely fine, hardly ever anyone in it, which was nice, YES the sunloungers could have been changed, some were broken, and there wasn't many of them. Someone previously stated on this site that sunloungers are often found floating in the pool along with other debris, we found out why... Kefalonia is a very windy Island and when this happens the sunbeds did fly into the pool along with some other bits, but hey..guess what... we just fished them out, my children found it quite entertaining actually.
SO.. to summerise, yes the GV could of been nicer, but it wasnt as bad as others have stated. We had a wonderful holiday, totally loved Kefalonia and would definately return. The GV is right in the middle of Lassi and Argostoli, you definately need a car / jeep, we booked one before leaving the UK and visited the whole Island. Some very scary driving took place, but well worth it when the see the stunning views. The beaches on the west of the Island are more children friendly than those on the east, some shelved off too quickly and were quite ferocious, too much for my kids.. and mine are good / confident swimmers. Also, Kefalonia is quite a windy Island, there always seemed to be a breeze, some days stronger than others !!!!!! but we never felt cold when out in the evenings.
We visited both Lassi and Argostoli for our evening meals - Lassi is definately cheaper than Argostoli - don't know why - but both were equally brill. Lots of choice for the kids aswell - (no fast food rubbish on offer - nice meat dishes with salads, veg, rice etc. or just plain chicken / beef / pork fillet cooked on the grill, kebabs (on sticks - not in bread) which kids also loved. Fantistic risotto's, beautiful greek salads, Kefalonia Meat Pie - which my husband loved - fresh fish - giant prawns - greek yoghurt and honey for pudding - i could go on forever.
IN SUMMARY, WE LOVED KEFALONIA - WILL DEFINATELY RETURN ONE DAY - Just remember, Greece is basic - always has been - very few comforts. But you have the beautiful weather, white sands, chrystal clear waters, what more could you want from a holiday. IF YOU WANT FIVE STAR HOTELS - BEAUTY TREATMENTS - PEOPLE WAITING ON YOU HAND AND FOOT - THEN DONT GO TO KEFALONIA !!!!
