"Absolutely fantastic hotel"

We have just returned from a week in Lourdas, staying at the Maria Anna hotel. It was our honeymoon and we had our one-year-old baby with us. We cannot praise the hotel and staff enough. We were allocated on arrival, as were most of the guests, and we feel lucky to have stayed here. The owners, their son and the lady who helps with breakfast and cleans the rooms are so friendly and were so helpful with our baby. When we arrived, I must admit, we thought the room was very basic, but we were quite happy because it was clean and typical of Greek accommodation. But then we opened the doors to find a fantastic balcony with table and chairs and the most amazing sea view. We looked to our left and saw the big pool with plenty of sunbeds and the lovely bar and we just loved it. I was trying to find a hotel with balconies and a swimming pool in this area and there weren't too many of them so we were very lucky. We didn't have a cot when we arrived (Olympic's fault) but Rhiannon, the lady who helps out there, organised one for us. Rhiannon runs the quiz on the Wednesday night - 12 euros for big barbecue meal with ice cream dessert - lovely. The meals at the pool bar were really nice and you can just tell that this family prides themselves on providing a fantastic service. There was a highchair there too, which was really useful for us at breakfast. Breakfast was lovely and a real bonus as we weren't expecting it. It was so nice that we went down every morning for it when usually we would have just stayed in bed. Rooms cleaned to a high standard every day. I was often in the room when she came in to clean as I was keeping my baby out of the sun during the hottest time of the day and she was very thorough. Lots of little touches like books in reception, lilos for guests to use, a parasol for every two sunbeds. Nothing is too much trouble. We borrowed their iron most nights and there is an emergency laundry service, which Rhiannon said we could use as we had a baby. We paid the 30 euros for the air conditioning and it was well worth it - walking back into the freezing cold room at night was so nice! I have already looked at going back to this hotel for our next holiday - we would go back again and again, and everybody we spoke to said the same.

"Hotel Maria-Anna, Lourdas, Kefalonia"

I booked a last minute "allocation on arrival" holiday 3 days before departure. With these kind of holidays with Olympic, you accept that there is a strong likelihood that you will be moved to other accommodation (possibly in another resort altogether) - I spent the first few nights at the Buena Vista studios in Lourdas and was then moved to the Maria-Anna.

The hotel is very laid back - the rooms are a bit basic but immaculately clean and well maintained. There is a great pool area, a well stocked pool bar with good food and the owners Gregori and Jenny are wonderful. The lady who does the cooking and cleaning is lovely and nothing is too much trouble for any of them.

The majority of the rooms have wonderful views across the bay although if you are near the pool bar or in one of the 4 rooms with balcony's facing inland, you may get some noise from the bar/restaurants a little way up the hill. There is a lovely breeze around the pool area which you definitely need as it's incredibly hot - I paid locally for the air conditioning and it was money well spent.

Definitely join in on the Thursday night barbeque - food is excellent and well worth spending a little more than going to a restaurant.

There are a good selection of restaurants within easy walking distance - I highly recommend The Orange Cafe which is just at the top of the lane above the Maria-Anna. The food was delicious and excellent value compared to some of the other restaurants, although the food is not really authentic Greek, but it was by far the best in the resort. Look out for the daily "specials" ..... superb !

I would definitely go back to the Maria-Anna - it was a trek down to the beach but who needed it when you had such a lovely pool.

Special mention to 2 people :

Peter - Jenny's teenage son - he was fabulous with the kids and got them all joining in games, including the shy ones.

Rhianon - our Olympic Rep - she was wonderful and so passionate about the island of Kefalonia ...... her love of the island and it's people came across so strongly and genuinely .....

Thanks to everyone - I had a fab time - totally relaxing and chilled.

Kay

If you want a relaxing upmarket holiday go to kefalonia and especially Maria Anna.
The owners of the hotel and thier associates(and mainly all greek people) are lovely and make you feel very welcome.
I strongly advise hiring a car or bike though as it will be virtually impossible to see all the beautiful sights without one.Another bonus of the holiday...Sxy men!

All in all a great holliday 10 out of 10

We have just come back from a lovely week long break in Lourdas where we stayed in the Hotel Maria Anna. Its a simple hotel but it is very clean; the linen and towels are changed regularly and the sea views from the second floor are simply stunning. Breakfast is a very relaxed affair with a choice of fried eggs, bacon strips and toast or cornflakes or museli with crispbread, tea or coffee and orange juice.

The resort of Lourdas has a few shops and some great restaurants - Dyonsis is a must and Afodite serves some lovely little chicken or pork skewers and kebabs to die for and that's not even mentioning the draft local larger!! We would recommend hiring a jeep or similar to get around the island and visiting the local vineyards which represent good value for money.

We found everyone incredibly friendly helpful and would definately recommend the hotel and Lourdas itself for a quiet, get away from it all break off season.

After reading other reviews i was very nervous about this holiday but i have just returned from a week of joy, fun and sun.

The Hotel was clean and welcoming. The bedroom furnture is slightly old but this is a two star hotel and is to be expected.
The view from the room was lovely. The room was cleaned each day and bedding and towels changed half way through the week.
The breakfast was Ceral, Museli, eggs and bacon, toast, tea, coffee and orange and served by a pleasant young lady.

The pool area and pool are clean. Sun loungers and parasols are available. There is a poolside bar which served drinks and snacks. The food was lovely and you received a good amount.
The hill down to the beach is steep but there is a bus which runs there and back in the morning and afternoon. Parasols and sunlouners are available. WE ate at all of the resturants on the road just above Maria Anna and all meals where excellent and good value for money. The Olympic rep was very nice and helpful and popped into the hotel each day.

It was a brillant holiday and we are looking forward to return.

I have been to many Greek Islands but Kefelonia is by far the most beautiful it is trully stunning. The hills can be hard work but we walked down to the beach in the morning and caught the bus back up 1 Euro each - bargain. Hotel was perfect very clean, great pool and bar and lovely staff. Ask for a sea view if possible - it will take your breath away. All the restaurants are lovely and not expensive - all are worth a visit. A car would be ideal as they are so many lovely places to visit on the island.

I have no bad things to say about the hotel, resort, island or people - it was the best holiday I have ever had - the only bad thing was leaving to come home - I just loved it.
