We've been several times but couldn't go this year due to XL. Believe me we were gutted. Its a fab hotel in a perfect spot. The staff are great. We'd recommend anyone to go there.

OverallGood Resort

Skala is a fairly quiet resort, several bars and restaurants but none really noisy so if thats what you're looking for its perfect. Very close to the beach. The take away pizza slices at Veto's are fantastic. And Flamingo restaurant is fab.

We have visited the Makis Hotel 3 times now, it is the best Hotel in Skala in our opinion. Dennis the boss and his wife plus all the staff, do everything to make your stay a good one. My wife and I fell in love with Poppy, she never stops and her personality and humour is infectious. We never stop laughing from begining to end of our Holiday.

It wouldnt be summer withiut our visit to the Makis. We recommend you try it for yourselves you wont be dissapointed

OverallVery Good Resort

Skala is perfect for couples with just enough nightlife, and plenty of taverners to choose from.

We recently returned from a holiday at the Makis Hotel and had a really relaxing time. The hotel is in a great location, literally just across the road from the beach and a few minutes walk into main area of Skala, It's well worth staying at this hotel.

Our room was very good, right at the front with a great view of the beach and the sea and best of all it had blackout shutters (a must for me as I can't sleep if it's light) it was regularly cleaned and had air conditioning (essential!), a fridge and safe, all at no extra charge!!

Breakfast was a bit repetitive toast, cereal, cheese, ham etc but perfectly acceptable. However the Greek Yoghurt was to die for (watch it ladies it's got lots and lots of calories!!) The only drawback was that breakfast wasn't served until 8am and most of the trips leave at 7 - 7.30 and also that was the best time to see the spectacular sunrise from the breakfast room balcony.

The pool area was great nice and clean and with a refreshing sea breeze which was a Godsend. There were a limited number of sun beds so it wasn't always possible to get by the pool, and the beach although lovely to look at was very stoney - so if you're a beach lover make sure you take some Jelly Shoes or other appropriate footwear. The pool is also open to the public and some days there were q number of very noisy kids there - which was a shame as there weren't actually that many children at the hotel.

Skala as a resort has a number of shops, bars and good restaurants all reasonably priced. We read quite a few of the reviews on here and decided to try and avoid all the usually 'Brit' restaurants - after all we can do that at home!

On our first night there we found a wonderful little Greek Taverna which only served Grills but the food was good (despite the customary chips with everything!) the staff hardly spoke any English and the restaurant was populated by a constant stream of locals, it was a great place for people watching! We even had the company of a couple of Green Orthodox Priests one evening! And best of all a Litre of house wine was on 4.70 Euros (and it was pretty good wine too). Needless to say we went back there at least 4 out of the 7 nights. I'm not going to tell you the name I'll leave you to discover it for yourself - and hopefully you'll have a nice Greek experience like we did.

We were going to hire a car but after the first day we felt so chilled out we couldn't be bothered driving so we booked a couple of trips.

We booked through Panem on the main street and the trips were on average 13 euros per person cheaper than the ones with the Rep, also if you booked 2 main trips they threw in a free half day in Agostoli.

We did the Island tour by coach it's a long old day but well worth it, make sure you've got plenty of space on your digital camera and be prepared for breathtaking views!!

We also did the 3 island boat trip and whilst it was great being at sea we were a little disappointed with the 'sun deck' on the boat. We thought we'd be able to laze around and sunbathe in between taking a dip in the sea - however the deck was crowded with chairs and there wasn't anywhere to relax and lay back. It wa salos a long day out. In hindsight we wish we'd just done one of the shorter boat trips.

All in all it was a really lovely place to go and it's the first place for a long long time that has made me want to go back again! So go and Enjoy!!!

Just arrived home from a fantastic two weeks in Kefalonia. What a stunning Island. Stayed at the Makis hotel which was ideally situated opposite the beach and only five mins walk from the main street.

Our favourite place to eat was Sunrise, which is situated right at the end of the beach road(as you face the beach right hand side). They served excellent fresh fish - especially the sardines!! The setting is fantastic, right opposite the beach.

We did two boat trips, one to Ithica and the Three Island Cruise. Both were really good and I would recommend them. Ithica is beautiful. We booked one trip with Kosmar and one with Panem (who are based on the high street). It is much cheaper to book the trips with Panem.

For after dinner drinks Neros Bar is a good choice. They serve amazing cocktails. Make sure you try the 'Pink Cloud' its absolute Heaven!!!!

If you want a chilled out holiday in beautiful surroundings Kefalonia is a very good choice.
