we have just arrived back and had an excellent week on the whole,on arrival we found it to be very clean and tidy,4 restaurants to choose,(2 must be booked 24 hrs before) a very wide range of food including greek, italianand fish, daytime activities by the pool for all,the rooms were spotless as were all areas of the resort,7km from airport so very easy to reach (18 euros in a taxi) evening entertainment a few nights including greek music night,a few shops on site although quite expensive, all staff were very helpful and polite, superb swimming pools although the main pool was different depths all over so beware if you are not a strong swimmer, safe available in rooms but 25 euros! beach towels available free, weather was excellent generally with only 1 afternoon and evening of rain, hotel not geared to bad weather, very little to do,drinks all inclusive but we felt they were maybe watered down as not strong at all!! went to kos town on the bus which cost 11.60 euros each way for 4 people, very nice harbour town with all the usual souvenir shops etc,had a good greek lunch for 5 for 35 euros, free bus from hotel to kardamena, you can walk in about 20-30 mins but hard work in the heat!! on the whole this holiday was exactly what we wanted, very relaxing,no real need to leave resort, lots of sun beds round pools, free drinks all day and nice food, when eating in the main restaurant we found the big metal spoons in the food bowls got a lot hotter than we would have liked!! but that is probaly the worst thing to say so we would definately recommend the porto bello beach hotel and would return there.cigarettes were 30 euros for 200,a taxi cost 8 euros from kardamena to the hotel, there was disco music played around the pool all day and activities including water gym in the pool, animation team very good for all, particularly good with the kids, much of the evening entertainment in the seperate amphitheatre 5 mins walk and no bar but not the end of the world, beach nice, with many free sunloungers and a beach bar offering free drinks and snacks for "AI"customers, all areas kept spotless and many lovely garden areas superbly kept, all age groups and nationalities, many germans and italians, all in all a very enjoyable week for a good price!

"Not 5 star"

Not, in my opinion 5 star. The food and staff at the main restaurant was good. Having to book for two of the other restauraunts before 10 am the day before you go eating, was something I had never come across before, I prefer to decide on the night. The rooms were no more than adequate eg. wardrobe door handles broken, the television was not working, no hotel / area information in the rooms. The sun beds generally were taken by people who's accommodation was by the pools, some had even dragged the beds onto their balconies. We were half board ( most were all inclusive ) I bought 2 ouzo and lemonades at the pool bar at a cost of 18 euro's !!! ( they were the last ).But the biggest problem for me was being on the flight path of Kos airport, it's very busy / loud in July the aircaft are really low over the hotel.

Wow! I have just returned from Kos after getting marrried out there. I travelled with my wife (fiancee at the time), our children and 6 other family and friends. This hotel was really A++++. We arrived just as dinner was finishing but was told to leave our bags and go eat and complete check-in afterwards. Then a porter took all our cases to our room and they were there waiting for us. The staff in the hotel we very helpful and extremely friendly especially with the kids. All the bar staff were friendly and served as quick as they could. There are 4 choices of restaurant to eat at and the food in them all was top class. The greek was probably the best and we eat there quite a few nights. The swimming pools were extremely clean and there was never a problem getting a sunbed even though the hotel has many nationalties. The beach was lovely (although the sand was unbearbly hot) and the sea was so clear and really ideal for kids as it doesn't get deep till quite a way out. Also the beach bar is great for refreshments while down the beach! The room was spacious and cleaned everyday along with fresh towels daily. Entertainment and games throughout the day and a show is on every night at the theatre apart from Mondays when there is a Greek night around the pool. We were married while out there and upon our return to the hotel in the afternoon the manager supplied champagne and also decoreated up our room. He then offered us a special meal with waiteress service and special menu on a night of our choice! We were treat like royalty and the food was amazing. The all inclusive drinks were good and very genourous measures were given. The hotel is on the flight path like it says in the brochure but it doesnt bother you and I didnt hear any complaints only people taking the opportunity to get some good close up pictures. The English are the minority but not as bad as some people have made out. The Germans were exceptionally friendly (believe it or not) just the Italians were a bit in your face but believe me it didn't spoil a minute of our Holiday. I really would recommend this Hotel to anyone of any age. Young couples, famlies, older couples, even groups of friends. If your booked to travel here soon, enjoy it. We will certainly be returning, more then likely more then once!

My Wife and I and 4 year old son spent 2 weeks here in May 2009.On arrival we were given a warm welcome and our bags were taken straight to our room.We had a family room on the ground floor with lovely views across the sea.The room was large and very clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were all nationalities and all spoke and gave you a smile when they served or passed you.The food was excellent with a choice of the main buffet restaurant or you could put your name down for the Italian,Greek or Fish(lunchtime only)which was a very fair system. There is a large pool and a childrens pool or you can walk down to the beach which was lovely and clean. The animation team were fabulous and Chico never stopped clowning around all the time we were there. He would dress up as various characters and appear on the beach or even when we were having pre-dinner drinks and have all the guests in fits of laughter. The entertainment was at the amphitheatre in the grounds but you do have to take a drink with you as there is no bar there. There is a lovely childrens playground on the beach and the kids club was run by Adina who was superb. There is also a beach bar serving drinks, snacks, and ice-cream.I can recommend the Sirent car rental just inside the main door, the guy was greek and he was very easy to deal with and gave us a great price. We hired a car for 3 days as the hotel is about an hour's walk into Kardamena, although there is a courtesy bus everyday. There are planes coming in low but we worked out on the busiest day there were about 10 and they took around 20 seconds to go over so you have planes for 3 or 4 minutes of your day!! It certainly didn't bother us or anyone else staying there. The hotel next door is the Portobello Royal which is newer and grander but I wouldn't hesitate going back to the Portobello Beach for a holiday,we had a great time and I couldn't fault it.

We went here in june 2008 weather was glorious high 30's every day we booked a sea view room but were put down in corner room that you could definately not see the sea from as it was downstairs and had trees and bushes as an outlook the hotel checkin was great as when we arrived at 2pm we were told to go get lunch and check in afterwards nice touch! The hotel looked good the pool was very very busy no sunbeds to be had but hey ho the beach was close by and the beds were included we became aware of just how many other nationalities there were at the hotel when nobody on the beach spoke english but we quickly reached the conclusion that english very definately were in the minority.Of course you got the same usual problems with sunbeds both pool and beach reserved before 7am and sometimes not used for the entire day.The food on the whole was not bad but the main resturant was a bit like a canteen the greeks seem to have taken to employing alternative nationalities as waiting staff who dont want to wait on you I cleared my own breakfast table on three mornings bring back the greeks at least they are always pleasant!!! Or maybe we have been lucky up until now.The greek taverna is open at lunch and evening meal and is lovely we ate here often as the main resturant was mobbed and like a school canteen. The italian resturant is only open in the evening and again is very nice now the fish resturant is only open at lunchtime be at the desk by 8.45 If you want to book it as the places are limited it took us 4 days to book as certain people block book and they were fighting over whos name should be top of the list. Now the biggy...When they say aircraft noise they aint kidding this hotel is on the flightpath and the planes fly directly over it and kos airport is busy. The courtesy bus is good to have but it is really old and tatty.Entertainment not any good for brits but thats about normal. The island is lovely get a car and get about, zia is a must ,great greek night.Would we go back ... I have to say probably not unless the hotel is upgraded as I was disappointed with the facilites and the service. The staff at the beach bar were great but that was not our experience elswhere in the hotel.Shame really as kos is a lovely island and I have travelled to greece alot this was maybe just unfortunate.Give it a go

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Porto Bello Beach Hotel and a good time was had by all.

We arrived just as the restaurants were closing after lunch but were told to go and get whatever we wanted and they would complete our check-in after we had eaten.

Our room was clean and quite spacious compared to what we have last year in Majorca.

As other people have stated, there are five restaurants, we tried all but the Thai one and found the food on offer to be of good quality if a little repetitive. It is a bit of a bind to have to book your chosen restaurant the day before though.

The pool is large and clean - my only concern was that for the majority of our stay, the wet bar supplied drinks in glasses not plastic tumblers, I was surprised that no-one cut their feet as glasses were being broken all the time. However, about 3 days before we were due to come home, they seemed to take delivery of plastic cups and they were all that was used for the remiander of our stay. It would be nice if there was a lifeguard on duty - at it's deepest the pool is 2.5m deep.

The hotel operates a beach towel service where you pay a 10? deposit per towel which you can change as often as you like and at the end of your stay you get the full deposit back.

The staff, who are predominantly Polish, are fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. The animation team work their backsides off and the daytime entertainment was good - waterpolo, beach volleyball etc but the evening entertainment left a lot to be desired so we didn't really bother.

There aren't too many English holidaymakers at this hotel, in fact the majority appeared to be Italian with a sprinkling of Austrian, German, Dutch and Belgian.

All in all we had a great time and if we were to visit Kos again we would definately go back to the Porto Bello Beach.

Had a great time here lovely staff, changed room as wasnt happy with first one and got a newly decor one.You get free beach towels to and can change them every day maids also came every day if you put sign out.

Greek taverna restaurant was great so was fish one they were our favourites they had a whole lamb one night! Very near airport so get a cab only 17 euros. We got a car out and went to bubble beach but didnt find the bubbles! But do go to the natural spring it is like a hot bath with healing water and the mountain goats were amazing! There isnt many English here which worried me at first but ended up being much better no loud mouths wanting attention very quiet and relaxing.

If you want lively bit get the free bus from hotel which is 5 min away with loads of bars and restaurants we ate out just once as the hotel food was just as good if not better. We used to get the 21.45 bus home for 2 euros as after this time went a bit too hectic for kids.

This hotel is right on the best beach you dont realise how hot it is as sea breezes, lovely beach bar too and endless ice cream for kids we let kids go in kids club for 1st time which was a hut on beach so i could keep an eye on them and they loved it!at least they got some shade as weather was perfect blue skies everyday. Wish we went to Turkey market as can get some good fake bags there but we will defo go back and our friends have booked the hotel next door which is new and beautiful with 17 pools and we would try that next as it makes our hotel look a bit tired.
