When I first booked to go to Kos I was very nervous about staying at the Elga after reading some of the awful reviews of it...but now that I'm home I'm convinced these people were from another planet!! The Elga was one of the best hotels we'd ever stayed in!!! We didn't see a single cockroach, the beds were changed a couple of times a week, and to be honest how many people change their beds everyday at home anyway?!?! Ok, the shower didn't have a curtain, but it's Greece and it didnt make it any less un clean! The pool area was fantasic and Butch the Barman is awesome!!! He was easily one of the best bits about the place, along with Dimitris and Dave and the dog FIGO!!!!! Also, Marias cooking at the snack bar is amazing, especially the chicken burger, and its all very well priced. The Elga is also very very close to the beach, clubs, pubs and restaurants so there is no need to get any form of transport whatsoever, although the Elga 24 hour bar is that good that sometimes we'd cut our night in the town short and go back there instead, usually heading to bed around 8am!!!

Before we went on holiday, we'd read a shed load of reviews on the elga apartments and the majority commented on the cleanliness of the hotel, coupled with the usually unreturnable 80 Euro deposit, we were a bit hesitant on our arrival. From the outside, our worst nightmares were confirmed, the place looked rubbish! However, the moral of our stay? "Don't judge a book by it's cover!" Yes, it looked like it could do with a fresh lick of paint on the oustide, but other than that it really wasn;t that bad, and a lot better than expected from an 18-30 Holiday. The owners were nice enough, but there were a few complaints about the other "staff" there. If you are female, and fairly attractive...plus lingering on the flirtatious side, then you will have no problems. If you are a group of lads, then you'll be viewed as competition and not really cared for. If you're an unattractive female....you have no chance! The hotel rooms were reasonably clean, infact much better than expected. Twin rooms of decent size with a small kitchennette. We had a pool view so had no complaints, although other holidayers on the other side will not have enjoyed the view of the local shop. The swimming pool had been recently refurbished according to a local, and it looked good. Nothing outstanding, but a decent sized clean swimming pool. Food at the pool bar was very basic, and with it being costly, one would expect to get their food served within an hour (especially for a salad!) But unfortunately, they seemed to keep very little stock and had to make two trips to the local grocers to get ingredients for our salad and jacket potato. Poor form really. But what we really wanted was a good location, and boy did we get it. A short walk to the hustle and bustle of bar street and the many restaurants, but also so close to the main clubs starlight and status (we could see status from our room), that one could stagger home at the early hours on the morning (or late hours in our case). Overall, the hotel was better than one expected, especially for an 18-30. It is basic, but at least it is clean and in a great location. I come to expect high standards (especially after staying in a 5* hotel the week before), but there were little complaints about this hotel (apart from the lack of hot water, but we were told by other tourists that their hotels had the same problem). Recommend to a bunch of males/females looking for the same kind of holiday. COUPLES/FAMIILES WITH CHILDREN AVOID!

Appartments are very basic but thats what you expect for club 18 - 30!!!clean enough, though toilets a bit horrible!!we had to pay 80 euro per room on arrival for breakages which we did get back but a few others didnt for no good reason!!!the pool area was good ,good music friendly staff!!

club reps were terrible!!!didnt give all details on trips and werent around to ask them !for example they went to water park trip without us and 2 other people because they already had our money in their pockets 22 euro per person and they refused to refund.they also left others at the waterpark half an hour away to get taxi home themselves luckily enough they had money to get home!!!

another thing that i wasnt happy about was there were staff with keys(not cleaners)in and out the rooms any time of the day as and when they pleased which i dont think is right!when 2 people complained about this to the reps the shrugged it off saying it was ok but did they want foam party tickets??!!?!?!

there were at the pool 3 times for an hour at a time in a whole week!!would have been better off without those reps and would have saved us money!!we made the holiday as good as possible!but would never go back!!!so if you decide to go after reding this honest review!GOOD LUCK!!!

When arriving at the Elga it seememd a bit basic but you cant really expect anything better for 18 - 30!we had to pay 80 euro deposit per room for breakages which luckily we did get back although alot of others didnt get a penny one room had an egg thrown into their balcony from outside ,cleaned it up but still had to pay 80 euro!!

the appartments themselves were not too bad the toilets were a bit minging very bad drainage system!!the pool was good and the food from the pool bar was good!!drinks were quite expensive! The reps were absloutley terrible the worst ive ever heard of!!!We were there for a week and saw them 3 times for an hour!!there were another couple complaining about someone being in and out of the rooms and they didnt have a care in the world,we booked up on the welcme party to go on the waterpark trip they never gave us a time or pick up point we couldnt ask them because they werent back at the appartments until the morning of the water park!!they also refused to refund us our money !!there were 2 other people this happened to on the same day but they said it was the first time in 4 years this has happened which i dont believe!!!they also left another group at the water park to make their own way home because they were 5 mins late for the bus!!!nothing like coming ang going a wee bit this group had to pay for taxis back even though they ad already paid !!1i could go on forever about these two reps but im sure if you still decide to go after reading this you will see what i mean !!

Went to elga hotel, at first glance its not the best place in the world but what do you expect for and 18-30s holiday, we had to pay 80 euros per room on arrival, but as long as you dont break anything or lose anything you get that back.

were to start the place itself is great and the people there are very nice and friendly. Stella and her sons made you feel very welcome the only annoying thing was there dog (figo) everywere you went it was there. infact everywere you went you seen stray dogs walking.

the room we stayed in was ok. not too dirty but not too clean either. towels and bedding was changed regularly and we DID get our deposit back as for all the other people there with us aswell. the reps were brill and made the holiday, took us out on a couple of pub crawls, you need to go to crackers its brill. stuart can teach a few drinking games too. jen was brill a good glaswegian burd.

there was a few good palces to eat. the fish bar was very good, pitty about mcdonalds though just didnt taste the same.

over all i would go back to kardamena but i would definetly pick another hotel.

I would not reccomened to anyone to go and stay in these apartements!
They are disgusting! On arrival we had to give a deposit of 80 euros when the brochure said 60. When entering our room, we found a dirty baseball cap under the bed, mosquitos squashed onto the bathroom tiles, and dirty plates and glasses.

If this wasn't enough we had read reviews before going which warned us to be careful with the sheets and towels as you would be charged for these if got anymarks on them.

On departure everyone has to sit in reception and wait for there room number to be called. this was referred to as the ";name and shame";. After your room had been checked you were shouted to thedesk and what ever was wrong displayed. We were charged 12 euros for getting a tiny make up mark on a towel! Worse things were displayed and as expected the reps were not around to help knew what was happening, but didn't seem to bother!

I would not reccomend anyone go to kardamena and whatever you do guys avoid these apartements like the plague! You are on holiday you want to be able to sleep on the sheets and not a beach towel!

Kardemena is brilliant! Sums it up! We stayed at the Elga. The main problem I had with the Elga is the safety deposit. We had to pay 80 Euros when checking in, which, as a responsable (ish!) group of girls, we assumed we would get back in full. Little did we know.

The towels were changed once as far as I am aware and so was the bedding, yet if there was so much as a speck of dirt on anything - they charge you for it! My advice to anyone staying here if they want their deposit back and avoid being charged extra (which was the case with a few groups on our holiday - one group got charged and extra 150 Euros for a broken bathroom lock which was already faulty!) is go over your room with a tooth comb! Check your bedding, towels, kitchen untensils - everything! Tell reception if there are any problems and you should be alright. Another complaint we had was that all of teh cups/plates etc were absolutely filthy! We had to clean everything before we could even use it! It really was disgusting.

Other than that the Elga was a brilliant place to stay! The atmosphere at the pool during the day was really good - especially when Butch was working - be prepared to be thrown into the pool when he is around!

The Escapades reps were brilliant, we definately recommend doing all of the excursions they were a bargain. For about £65 we had entertainment all week and a wicked time to go with it! The bar crawl is such a laugh - you have to go to Crackers on the beach front. The atmosphere in there is amazing! Everyone is friendly and many a good night was had by all! The reps take you there on the bar crawl on the first night.

One thing I will say is don't go to the Elga thinking you will get some shut eye during the night! It's a 24 hour bar, and when we crawled back from the clubs at six in the morning, we joined the rest of the guests drinking, chatting and singing till eight or nine! If you can't beat them - join them!
All in all I had a fantastic holiday, and would definately go back!

Well as soon as we got there the hotel wanted 60 euros off us which would be refunded on departure as long as there was no damage or breakages in the apartment. You have to have a good look around so they can't blame you for someone elses damage at a later date. The room was reasonable but not very clean ie; something had been spilt on our balcony and was there when we went home. Found out that we were only given 1 toilet for the week when we needed it badly, fortunately a nice lady from newcastle gave us some of hers after hearing me ask at reception.

Was shocked on last day to find out that they do not have a curtusy room to clean up for the flight home! Was told we could keep a room till 8 o'clock for 30 euros but we really think that was asking too much for a facility we would have used for 30 mins max. We have been on several holidays and never known there not to be a room set aside for people on late flights who have had to vacate their rooms at 12. This was a late booking from internet but when we finally asked our rep he was not very helpful and said it was all in the brochure, something we couldn't have known as we were allocated on arrival. Never seen the rep for a week and by the sound of it none of the other people in this hotel had either.

Anyway the good bits! The resort was great and not too busy but there was loads of places to eat and drink. We spent a lot of time in Rios bar watching footy and playing pool, the staff were great George the mad brazilian, his sister Katrina and her husband Antonio. Posh restruant to eat is Yannis we went there twice and the meals was the best we have had. Breakfast we had on the beach front and the view while we were eating was the best we have seen.

We will definately be going back there but we have heard its busy and rowdy main season so we will go back May or October. Weather was still great for the time we went and we really liked the resort.

We arrived at the Elga to find that it had just changed from Airtours to Escapades. When we approached the Reps to let them know we were not happy about staying in an Escapades hotel (18-30) they just shrugged us off. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude, but being stuck in a hotel with loads of giggly/screaming 16/17 yr olds was enough to drive anyone crazy. I don't think they slept at all!!! Not a very good start to a 2 week holiday.

Once we eventually entered the reception we were greeted by Stella who was very nice. She had two sons Dimitri and Pedros who were really nice aswell. You had to pay 60 euro deposit incase of any damages and 20 euros for the Safety Deposit box. The rooms were very basic, fridge, kettle and 1 ring cooker, but at least they were clean. You could only get hot water roughly between the hours of 12pm - 4pm.
Pool area and pool was clean. Apart from:-
BEWARE!!! Quite a few sunloungers are Broken and if you sit on one and fall through you will be charged 20 euros. The Reps who came to visit nearly daily were just after your money. All of the trips they organise are a waste of money (big time!!!).

The Rio Bar was absolutely great, George (SAM DINGLE look alike) and Adonis were an amazing laugh. Keep off the Sambuca Shots - Disgusting they are. Most nights we couldn't remember getting back to the Elga.

And finally, try JAKES, absolutely georgeous English and Greek food. And also very cheap.

To be honest, if in the near future, the Elga changed back to being anything apart from an 18-30 hotel I Would definately go back as it's in such a good location with a 24 hour Bar at reasonable prices.
