Flights with airtours were tough - cattle class (just bearable for four hours). No room to move, eat or breathe.

The apartments are basic, but clean. The curtains are very thin, but we adlibbed and hung the spare blankets up to help us sleep-in in the mornings. If you are looking to cater for yourself you could be quite challenged, we didn't have a toaster, or microwave -though some apartments seemed to have microwaves. The supermarket nearby has the basics, but is relatively pricey. If you are going to hire a car, go just out of Kos Town to a larger supermarket to stock up on water, beer etc - you will save money.

Not all rooms have air con, some only have ceiling fans - air con is 5/6euros per night (but worthwhile if going during the summer months). We requested a county-side view and were lucky enough to be put in a block with air con. (We were in apartment 30 - which was away from the noise of the bar and next to a run with a family of deer - very cute to sit and watch from the balcony).

High season - sun loungers are a little bit limited. If you are not by the pool by 10/11am you could end up laying on the concrete or grass. Food in the snack bar is fine and reasonably priced - but nowhere does Beef Burgers - ham everywhere.

The apartments are a bit of a walk from the town (uphill on the way back). But we quite enjoyed the stroll, but a taxi is only 5euros. The family that run are very nice and will sort out any problems, book taxis etc. They have a family BBQ every other Monday evening, it's very friendly - but not good if you don't eat red meat - only pork.

Airtours do a free night out - it's ok. Depends what you like. It's held in Shennigans - the Elvis impersonator is worth a watch, but wouldn't recommend the food in the restaurant next door Boomerang - we were disappointed.

We found the cheapest car hire (for Jeeps anyway) was with ML Rent a Car, Kanari Street. But be warned petrol stations don't seem to take credit / debt cards. We visited Paradise beach - ok (but then we're not beach people). Zia was worth a trip for the sunset, and the hot springs were quite impressive - really hot. We didn't realise that you could drive almost down to them, and parked by the snack vans - then it's quite a walk (and we discovered other people had driven further down).

Restaurants in town - Aktaion was fantastic (food and service), we ate there three times (just round the corner from the taxi rank and Hypocratis Tree), would really recommend the Greek set menus - great value and you won't leave hungry! Ambrosia, on the edge of the old town is also good - a roof garden (but doesn't open until the sun has gone down - it's too hot before). All the food is good!

Three island boat trip on the Katarina was excellent. George is very friendly and really goes out of his way to make the day fun. Greek dancing, snacks ouzo, dressing everyone up as pirates, letting people drive the boat, fun raffle - all in the price. We were lucky enough to see a sea turtle and wild dolphins too!

One final tip - I would really recommend arranging your own transfers to and from Kos airport. We were the second to last drop off on arrival, and the journey back was dire, and because we were so late, the ques to get through airport security was horrendous (only just made the flight). I doubt it would be a huge cost to get a taxi privately - but it would really be worth it (and leave plenty of time to check in for return flights!)

Well, where to start. 1st of all the owners of the property are absolutly fantastic and cannot be faulted in any way what so ever!!

First choice is another matter. Families beware of what you book, or what you think you have booked. I booked a FAMILY holiday last july to ensure I got a 5 bedded room for my FAMILY holiday. 2 adults me and my partner Sue, 3 children Stacey 11, Sophie 8 and Stephanie 4. Checked out about it on web site then booked over the phone direct with First Choice. They said the only way we could have a 5 bedded room for the holiday was to have interconnecting rooms which we agreed to. Once in resort told that we had 2 rooms in 2 seperate blocks 350m apart. i told the rep this was not what we had booked, he said "; you've got what you've booked mate "; on trying to reason with him he walked off and left me and my Family with the owners son at 4am. Eventually we had to go into the 3 bedded room with an extra bed in it and my partner slept on a lilo for 2 weeks.

Best resteruant to goto is socrates in Kos town. Try beef stifado its excellent. On leaving we had a 3 hr delay again our rep was nowhere to be seen and we were given 1 update in 3 hrs which told us nothing we didnt already know. In summary these apts are OK for couples or families with older teeenagers. DEFINATELY NOT FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. There is nothing for them to do apart from the pool and table football and pool. Again people were great and the owner George calmed me down when we 1st arrived. Im not really one to moan unless there is great need to do so. PLEASE PLEASE Make sure you know what you have booked and take proof with you.

They are so welcoming, and the lads are gorgeous, they all make a really effort to help you out, we decided we wanted to get married over there, we asked the first choice rep and we were there for 2 weeks and the day we left we still didn't have an answer bearing in mind we got there on the thursday and asked on that day, we spoke to Chris behind the bar and he did everything he could to find out, if you do decied to get married make sure before you go you get your birth certificate stamped to say you wern't married before. They are an absolute terrific family, Kos town is gorgeous aswell if your going to eat out we went to a place called JUMBO, James and Sharka are a terrific couple and so nice, we spent ages there when we ate and they made us feel so special

these apart are good very clean and comfortable.the family are really friendly all the suns work in the bar, kosta has a monkey that he brings up to the bar.
its quite a walk down to the shops but a taxi is only 5euros,most of the shops sell the same.
food at the apart was good there is a taverna few mins walk away that is also good all home made cooking, the supermarket is not far away either and prices are good.
dont book anything with the reps its to dear down the harbour you can get the boat to turkey for 10euros they will even show you round there boats.
the bar is away from the apart so you wont be woken by a lot of noise.

pool is very clean only problem was they had loads of loungers but not enough mats on them and a lot of the young ones where coming home early hours and puttin there towels down so when you went down in morning there was none unless you moved them, sorry apart 31it was us who put you towels in the pool.
greek nite is good loads of food and dancing all the george sons join in.

lots of insects but i dont think they hurt use plug ins and at the supermarket you get a coil thing to burn i put that on the balcony and we never got bit.airconditioning is 20erous a week but we slept with the doors open.
the only thing that wasted the holiday was the flights very early in the morning at the airport everyone got charged for luggace being over some where £150 you dont get your case if you dont pay they are very strict.
would go back to these apart they were lovely and the people of kos are as well cant do enough for you.

Read all the other coments from everybody else take all the good points put them in a holiday and that was ours.

The best holiday that you could ever wish for thats why we went(may) back for a second time 3 weeks later and we are going back in oct, cant wait. The small complex (about 34 app) is fantastic as is kos. The locals are really nice and if you take the time to learn a litte greek it go's a long way, try (bbc. co.uk) for the basics Hello, can i have, and all that..and it is Great for every body its a great mix of ages One night we were drinking till 3am with a 75 year old man and the next night we were drinking with a gang of students and all that was at the complex bar, what a great time i just wish every body could go.

This is the second time that i have been to these apartments and it keeps getting better and better!

The family who own the apartments are extremely friendly and are able to sort any queries you may have either about your apartments or about things to do whilst you are in Kos! Also Jonny and Eleni are on hand if you need newspapers, art and general shopping, they own the shop which is a 2 minute walk away! If you dont see something in the shop that you want they will try and get it in for you! The nightlife in Kos is fantastic with the Lucky Star and the other bars along the harbour if you prefer still loud but more relaxed atmosphere for drinking or dancing in, and then there is bar street behind the McDonald's where there is 5 streets of excellent bars (in some cases if you spent 6 euros in nova everyone in your party got 4 free shots each!) The bars i would recommend here are Nova, White Corner, Wild Bull and Bar Limit! The two main nightclubs are Fashion and Heaven, but there is also Exodus at the taxi rank!

Places to visit in Kos - The castle at the harbour, Paradise Beach, Hot springs, Tigaki, Kardamena and the lots of ruins that are very close to Ampavris (5 minute walk)
It is relatively cheap in Kos again depending on what you are wanting, food is cheaper (try souvlaki), alcohol is same to the UK prices.

To flag a taxi you do the same as in the UK, it costs 5euros to go from Ampavris to town and vica versa!

All i can say now is to book your holiday to here and you will not be disappointed! It is a fantastic resort with something for everybody! And the apartments, well i am more in love with them the more i talk about them!

This is our 2nd trip to Kos Town and was booked at the last minute. The apartments are basic but clean and comfortable.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of the town in a quiet, peaceful location. The harbour and centre is 10 minutes walk away, the road down to the town isn't the best so would recommend at night time to get a bus the Stop is just next to the quaint little family run shop next to the apartments or better still a taxi it only costs 5 euros.

The Family that run the hotel are great and are very friendly George(don't worry be happy), Eleni ( Fab Breakfasts), Costa ( Mr 5 Mopeds) and Kris (Mad hunter)are usually about during the day and the lovely Steve( Loves breaded garlic mushrooms) runs the Bar at night.

The complex is peaceful during the day, the outdoor pool is great and has a jacuzzi there are lots of sun loungers for all.At night the the Bar is run By Steve and most nights we stayed at the Bar as it was great atmostphere and Steve was great company. The bus station that runs buses all round the island is at the bottom of the road takes 5-10 minutes to get there. Exploring the island is really easy and would not advise booking up with the Tour Agents as you are much cheaper doing it yourself. Boat trips aplenty to Turkey, Rhodes, 3 Islands and surrounding islands, the Waterpark, Tingaki/ Marmari for horseriding or watersports the island has everything.

Would definately return to the Ampavris it was Brillant.!!!

Just back off holiday, our second visit to kos this year but by far the best, the first time was good but ampavris was excellent.Family run, very clean, excellent pool/bar area, good food cooked by Eleni and her niece at very reasonable prices.
The grounds are well kept and there is a play area for kids if you have them.

The apartments are situated approx 20 minutes walk from the harbour front in Kos town where you will find plenty of restaurants to suit all taste's.

There is a small shop no more than 2 minutes walk from the apartments and you can get almost everything you need here, this is also family run. A further 3-4 minutes away is a supermarket.

The family are all very friendly and helpfull they really made us feel at home so much so that we didn't want to leave.

The owner George is always smiling and his favourite saying is don't worry be happy.
The son's Kris, Steve and Kosta all help around the place although Kosta was away at uni whilst we were there most of the time.

Kris runs the bar through the day and loves to talk about fishing.

At night Steve takes over, he loves to talk about anything and he's the life and soul of the bar.
He helped to make a good holiday great.

Unfortunately we were not able to experience a Greek night as the season was coming to a close, but we did experience a greek birthday when Eleni's sister visited and we had an unofficial greek night.

All in all we had a truely fantastic time thanks to ALL the family but especially Steve the Greek GOD!

In the words of Arnie We will be back! SOON.

We have just returned from Kos for our very first time in Greece. We loved every minute of it. The accomodation in Ampavris was really comfortable and very clean. We had a two room apartment. We particularly liked the area for the quietness and not far away from the hustle and bustle of Kos town. George and Aleni who own Ampavris have a lovely family who run the apartments and they make you very welcome they are really friendly. They also have a supermarket nearby which is run by their Niece Eleni and her husband Johnnie, who are very nice people too. Will give advice on anything you need to know. They are American.

We got around by using the local buses. Don't do anything with the reps too expensive, you can do this yourselves
much cheaper. The buses do run to time, and it is good to explore other parts of the Island. Ampavris has a bus stop just outside the apartments. Do take a torch as the roads are not well lit and watch out for bikes and cars.
Avoid Kos harbour for shops and restaurants they hassle you all the time. The side streets are better for eating.
The old town is much nicer.

If you wan't to get a boat to do the three Island tour, see George on the Katerina he is very good and it is cheaper to use him and he really gives you a good time on board. (Kos town Harbour)

Zia is a lovely village in the high mountains and great to see the sunset. We found the gifts their much cheaper than Kos and better quality. Also Mastihari and Tingaki. You don't get hassled too much their.

We also hired a car to enable us to see much more of the island as the buses do stop running early evening or afternoon. Their is a tourist information centre where you can pick up the bus times.

The beaches are much nicer in Tingaki and Mastihari which are a bus ride away. We found it quieter at the Salides beach which is situated at the other end of kos near the new harbour. (Also entertainment is good at that end. Good music bars).Fifth avenue music bar has very good food. Try the Stifado which is lamb and onions. Very nice.
Kos town is better for teenagers as they have lots of bars and clubs.

We would certainly return to Kos again and to Ampavris.
