First impressions when we arrived were very nice. Judy on reception was very welcoming and helpful, as when we booked in we were told that it wasnt possible to have a ground floor as requested which i wasnt happy about as we had a 8 month old baby with us. Also Olympic had forgotten to inform the hotel that we had booked for a cot. As we were on the top floor they did take into account that we couldnt take the pushchair up and down stairs so we were able to leave it in reception and the cot arrived in our room within 10 mins of us settling in. The rest of the holiday was was lovely. Air conditioning was great. Surrounding area looks very rustic and unkept. Pool area clean and plenty of sun beds. We ate out every night at a different resturant our favoutite was istro at the cross road or old river on the sea front. The rooms were basic (as you would get in greece and in a 3 star) Our baby daughter was ill whilst we were there. we spent a lot of time in our room during the day (due to the heat) we ventured out either early morning or late evening.3 days after being there our daughter needed to see a doctor. maria (the owner) rang her family doctor and arranged taxis for us she was very helpful, Thank you. It is about a 25 minute walk into kos town but outside the hotel is the bus stop it costs 2 euros returns which is cheap and saves walking in the heat if you cant coupe. On our last night we attended the greek night. 8euros which included a plate of greek starters followed by freshly bbq kebabs with salad followed by a sweet. Whilst eating there was a young girl who played traditional greek music in the back ground and when eveyone had eaten the party began. 2 greek dancers showed us how to do the moves. there were group dances, male dances and one for the ladys with the help of a shot of ouzo or 2. What a great way to end a holiday.

overall the holiday was nice but having been to many other greek islands i cant say this island is my favourite. its just ive been to better. I would recommened this hotel if you wanted to come and stay in kos. What we have noticed is the prices have changed mainly due to the exchange rate.

Kos Town is a fantastic place for couples and families which is what we were looking for. Lots of great, reasonably priced restaurants, lots of lovely scenary, nice beaches and some good bars. If you are a group of lads/girls, go to Kardemena instead becuase you will get bored in Kos Town.

Smaragdi is very basic but clean and what we expected for the price we paid. Try to get an upstairs room as we had ants! But the place is a decent enough base with a good size pool and lots of sun beds. Shop opposite very useful for a newspaper and drinks. 25 min walk to harbour restaurants and bars, 10 mins to beach.

Best way to see island is on push bike (3 euro per day) or by quad bike (18 euro per day for lowest spec one) - they ARE safe.

Also, go to the harbour and do one of the 3 island boat tours - great day out! The waterpark is new and lots of fun too! Weather was amazing for all 2 weeks! Beware of mosquitos, they are quite vicious as my girlfriend found out!

We travelled to Kos last month with Olympic. Having been told that the Smaragdi were in Kos Town, just a short walk to the Port, [we like to see other Islands each day by ferry etc.], we found that it was 45 mins. walk to the Town; 15 mins. to the nearest Beach; 10 mins to the Village of Lambi.
We asked about local buses; no one knew or cared. Ferry timetables, no one knew or cared. Taxis, no one knew or cared.

Having been a traveller for many years, I never have trouble with mosquitos BUT Lambi was another story. We were eaten alive despite sprays, plug-ins and gallons of Citronella. Now, I know that no one can help that a place is particularly bad for biting insects BUT NO ONE warned us! BECAUSE eventually you have to sleep with all the doors and windows closed and with the Air-con on. THAT COSTS ANOTHER 4e per night.
The only nice thing was the night porter. It got so bad one night I went down to have a drink and try to relax [around 3 am]. He was a delight, making coffee and supplying metaxa, local info. by the ream AND the local S-Tan spray which is the only thing that works.

Add to this that the rooms were poorly maintained and cleaned and everything was too much trouble, we left halfway through the Holiday and moved to the Hotel Triton [sic].
I discovered online later that we could have flown to Rhodes by BA; Express Cat to Kos and 14 nights at the Triton for LESS than it cost with Olympic Holidays.
Travel Companies should learn that, in these days of the Internet, they should treat their customers with more respect. We don't need them any more!
