As you can see from the other reviews this is not a Hotel to stay at. While the pool and patio area was fine for us the hotel rooms and food were very poor. Breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs, Ham, cheese, jam, bread, cornflakes, the milk provided was possibly goat's milk as there was an unusual flavour to it. The orange was orange cordial not the usual breakfast orange. Tea and coffee. The evening meal was barely edible and very bland and only luke warm. Our routine was to eat out all the time and perhaps have the soup and salad on offer as these were of a reasonable standard.

The rooms were exactly as described in other reviews, very basic and very little hanging and cupboard space. we had a wardrobe with five coathangers in and three blankets, one of which was stained with something we dare not investigate. The bins were not cleaned every day and the towels and linen only changed when requested. The hotel staff were friendly enough although sometimes a bit scarce.

The area was remote and quiet but we knew that before we went, the bus service was adequate and we also hired bikes for two days to get about. The other problem with a rural location is the mosquitoes, although we only had a couple of bites some other guests were not so lucky.

We would recommend the the two local resorts of Tigaki and Marmari for the beaches and tavernas, both about 2 kilometers from the hotel.

Luckily we had almost 7 days of glorious sunshine and and this helped to make up for the awful hotel.

There was no entertainment provided apart from a television which showed English films with Greek subtitles and the sound turned down. We felt the lack of entertainment might be due to the fact that it was the last week of the season for this particular hotel.

I would not advised anyone to stay in this hotel as it was awful, the food was disgusting, the rooms were dirty and the hotel needed completely refurbished.

GETTING AROUND
As the bus service was only every hour we hired a quad bike which was fantastic. It cost 3euros to fill up the petrol tank and you could drive for about 3 days on that..Also it was very cheap to hire with full insurance.

BEACH
The nearest beach is Tigaki however i think the best beach was on the other side of the island called Paradise Beach. the water was clear and their was a variety of things to do!!

PLACE TO EAT
Tigaki town is has a large amount of places to eat with prices varying from 2.50euros - 6euros for breakfast and 10euros - 15euros for main meal and drink...If you like Chinese head to Kos town as their is 3 very highly recommeded Chinese restaurants and we had a fantastic 3 course meal for under 35euros!!

PLACE TO DRINK
Tigaki also offers a large range of pubs and clubs and most are reasonable prices!!!
But what the pre-organised pub craws as the will cost you a fortune!!!

Not advisable to go to the Yiannis Hotel, holiday was overtaken by constant complaints regardng the poor hygiene and cleanliness of the hotel.

All holiday makers at the Yiannis would disagree with the 3 star rating of the hotel- mainly due to the standard of food, the flies surrounding the food, the surliness of many staff members and the wild cats which were not discouraged or removed from entering the dining room (cats which would jump on the tables and help themselves to the cornflakes of a morning).

Mnay other areas of complaints including a reception which was NOT manned 24hrs, leaving both room keys and passports frequently unattended.

The only saving grace of the hotel was the pool, however it was poorly managed and surrounding area dirty- problems with the chlorine levels in the water also meant that the pool was out of action for 4 days of our holiday.

The actual hotel is situated in a very remote area outside of Mamari, and walking/cycling/bus is a must if you want a supermarket, bars etc. The Go Carts (5 mins from hotel) was excellent for the children and the lady who ran it restored faith in the friendliness of the Greek people. If you book this hotel then you will need to take money for food because we found ourselves self-catering in the morning and going hungry at night.

Arrived at the so called hotel in the early hours of the morning, tired and needing sleep, was given a dungeon as a room.Which was very dirty and looked liked it had never been cleaned, was to tired to complain at this time, was reluctant to lay on the beds, but had to, two hours later got up and asked to be moved to another room.

The new room was not quite as bad as the 1st,but was dirty/filthy infact, other peoples towels were in the bathroom, which remained in our room for 3 days, never saw a cleaner, although some linen appeared a couple of times during our 13 nights stay.

The facilites in the rooms are very poor, two tiny bedside cabinet draws is all you get and a wardrobe with 5 coat hangers, one chair and one socket. The airconditioning was not working, and when it did it was blowing hot.

The food was uneatable, there is no chiller for the salad, and the hot plate could not even get warm, there are flys and insects all over the dining area, and wild cats jump up and help themselves. The people who handle the food have disgusting habits, and whats not eaten one day is put back out the next day, and the left over dinner is put in with the salad the next day.

We thought the pool would be its saving grace, but this was out of action for 6 days out of our stay. The beach is a mile and a half away, down dirt tracksand through cows and bulls, on the whole this so called HOTEL is the worst place that i have ever stayed in and i would not reccomened it. We were told that it was a 3 star plus, it do'es not deserve a -1 star,Olympic need to remove this from its brochure to stop peoples heartaches.

This hotel is the worst hotel ever!! It does not deserve the 3 star rating it has, it should be more like minus 3! -The rooms are very dirty, have mouldy corners and rusty balconies and furniture. Rooms were never cleaned and the linen was disgusting, usually ripped and stained. We were never given enough towels.

The food was diabolical, totally inedible, so we usually ate out! The pool area was scruffy, the water was disgusting with ";things"; (sewage!) floating in it. Basement rooms were like something out of a medieval prison!!The owner was very arrogant and rude and believed he had a lovelly hotel, also the staff and holiday rep left something to be desired!!

The location of the hotel was misleading as we were smack bang in the middle of nowhere (at least 2-3 km's away from the nearest resort or bar or restaurants etc). Marmaris and Tigaki were the nearest resorts. They were very sweet but very small with not very much nightlife. This hotel is somewhere I could not even recommend to my worst enemy, we will certainly not be returning here EVER!!

We arrived at the Yainnis Hotel in the early hours of the morning to find out the Hotel had a power cut we were greated by a greek security guard who spoke very little English, later the Olympic rep appeared.

On allocation of our rooms (at the time of booking we requested adjorning rooms due to the age of our daughters)what a surprise, this was not the case and the rooms were several doors apart eventually we were given a family room (which at the time of booking wasn't available)due to the power cut we were happy with this room because we were together,it wasn't until the next morning when we realised what a complete dirty hole the Yiannis was! The Bed linen and towels were dirty, the floors and the bathroom look as if they hadn't been cleaned by any disinfection for months, wires hanging away from the walls and squashed creatures splatted over the walls, apparently we were one of the lucky ones to be allocated one of the better rooms.

Food - disgusting, no menu, guessing game on what you were actually eating (even the waiter didn't know) insects, flys landing all over the salad, and meats, but nothing went to waste, it just kept coming out the next day in disguise.
Entertainment - None
Not at all friendly or Helpful that includes the rep!
Pool - cloudy, strong smell of chlorin and someone even found poo in the shallow end, nothing was done just more and more Chemicals added - unable to use for the last week of our holiday

Overall - this had to be the worst Holiday we have ever been on

Recommendation - don't book the Yiannis unless your idea of a good holiday is dirty, unfriendly, and food not fit for human consumption.

On arrival at the Yannis hotel early morning first impressions were not good. We received a bottom room floor that we refused to sleep in and just could not use the bathroom. The walls were black and the bathroom was so unclean I do not wish to describe. We complained when the so called 24hr receptionist came on about 5 hours later and changed rooms to the second floor, better but still not good we had been up over 30hrs and needed to sleep. Air con not payable locally, the hotel put this on anytime between 5pm-7pm lady luck of how long it stoped on and 11pm. Safe boxes were in reception against a wall but only 30 boxes, over 50 rooms!

Very out in the middle of no where, the cows and bulls are your neighbours. Lots of power cuts and no emergency lighting on any floors apart from in main reception good job we took a torch like the brochure said as no street lighting, lots of mozzies take good anti-hist. Food was poor with no choice and no menu also the reception/lounge/ inside bar/resturant was in the same room where it was very dusty and not clean, stayed on a half board basis but only ate a total of 5 meals there and decided to eat out after that. I was very ill from the third night of our stay and received medical attention back at home where I was signed off from work with gastro... We are in the process of complaining and await a reply. If you need to complain you HAVE to complete this on site with the Rep or your claim is not valid.

The hotel is 2mins from the Thomson Atlanis (I think its called) and all to do is a go-cart track. Very noisey doors slaming at night to be locked and noise travels real well in this place. Only one receptionist could speak good english but was most helpful. Not 24hr reception, and the showers are not as we know it, no shower curtain also hand held, (get your partner to hold this) Weather 100% but we didnt see much of it. Pool area was reasonable but could have had the cans and wrappers picked up which stayed there all week. If you want to relax and have booked this hotel try to get a room on Floor 3 and if you have a delicate tum be careful. Kos Town was beautiful but thats all we saw really. Last week booking which it seems to be a last minute hotel as no-one had booked more than 2 weeks previous. Real shame to a holiday that was really needed.

after a 3 hour delayed flight we arrived at 11pm tired, with 4 very tired children in tow. First sight looked very nice. Checking in rather bland all open Dining/Reception/lounge area we went to our room one of 3 to find very very basic accomodation, poorly laundered bed linen, dirty bathroom which still had the previous tenants hair in the plug holes. So I went to reception to explain i needed some clean linen for my bed, the night staff made out that she didn`t know where anything was and i was to come back in the morning, which I was not very happy about.

The next morning we went into the resteraunt for breakfast, rather unappertizing, then at 9.30 which is what time breackfast finished a cleaner or tramp is what he lookd like came in and started handling the cut ham and cheese with his bare hands and placed it back in the fridge with the rest. It was noisy in the evening doors were banging. You could hear what everybody was saying right down the hall. we only ate at the hotel that 1 morning and that evening and that was enough for us. The whole holiday cost us an absolute fortune as we paid for Half board and had to eat out the whole two weeks we were there, and with there being 6 of us well!

The pool turned green just before coming home, obviously not kept clean again we were not the only ones complaining everyone felt the same, the only good side of the holiday was it was a peaceful location the beach and weather was lovelly
And none of us were ill!!!

This is not a holiday I shall not be recommending. The hotel does not deserve the 3 stars it really would be hard pushed to get 2. The rooms were much less than basic, sheets were changed oncealong with the towels, after complaining. The food was disgusting, not even warm, no choices, even worse than school dinners!

So if you have the misfortune to have booked into the Yannis, take plenty of extra money for eating out and a driving licence is a must as rural is not the word for it. Should I ever go again, I think I would like to go at the same time as the photographer for the brochure went!!

Excellent

Having read the earlier reviews on this site and having never been on a holiday of this ilk before, I was extremely anxious, to say the least. I had booked this holiday some 7 weeks prior to departure and began to wish that I had not done so. However, these anxieties were absolutely unfounded as this Hotel was fantastic.

The staff greeted us with a cheery Hello (Yassou) on arrival and we were soon in our room overlooking the pool.

The room, albeit basic, was very clean with bedding and towels provided. It was cleaned on a daily basis and linen changed three times during our stay. Also extra toilet rolls were provided mid week although we still had two to spare.

Breakfast and Dinner were buffet style and delicious. The only thing I did not like was the milk provided with our cereal. However this was not a problem as we bought some at the local supermarket and kept the same in the fridge (which was provided at no charge) in our room.

The pool was excellent - very inviting - not only on our arrival following a very early morning start etc etc, but also after a day on the beach or on a guided tour.

We hired bicycles from Marmari for the week and had great fun going around the area about 5k in each direction.

The guided tours are extremely good value for money. We went on the Volcano Tour - which is a must if you have never had such an experience before and a Greek Night, all booked through Olympic after Jo, our rep, gave us our welcome - these were well organised and worth every penny paid. However as we were only on holiday for one week we did not get chance to go on the tour for Turkey with the company. Jo, very kindly recommended an agent in Tangkiki and off we went - what bargains - all my Christmas Shopping in one day!!!

We have made some very good friends during our holiday and if any of you are reading this review - Yassou from us both.

We hope to tour other Greek Islands in the future and will, we promise, return to Kos and The Yiannis as soon as we can fit you in.

Finally, we had a wonderful time and cannot thank all of the staff at the Yiannis enough - as we do not wish to offend anyone by missing off a name, I have deliberately not mentioned you all personally.

Take Care.

Pauline and John Botham.
