we spent a week at the mayflower in july 08. our one bedroom apartment was very spacious, with seperate kitchen area with dining table and a good size balcony overlooking the pool. our room was above the bar next to the stairs but there was no problem with noise. we paid extra for the safe (10euros) and for a/c (35euros) which was well worth it, couldn't have slept without the aircon. the owners of the mayflower are really friendly. both the pool and bar areas are really well kept and clean. it was always easy to get a sunbed at any time of day. the location was good for peace and quiet. about five minutes walk from nearest bars and tavernas twenty minutes walk to the beach. tingaki had a great selection of bars and tavernas. one of the nicest was opposite the beach called plori- very popular with the locals it also had a nice alsatian dog who kept the cats away! another nice taverna to try is mediterranee on the main road very friendly really nice greek dishes good specials and always a couple of free drinks. we found the best bar to be the katras (the bar of the katras hotel) really great cocktails and the best drinks waiter kosta - he does the the work of about six people and always seems to know when you're ready for another! mayflower and tingaki highly recommended for a simple greek getaway.

The Mayflower is a fantastic hotel and one of the best we have every stayed at in Greece. We had a one bedroom apartment which was very spacious and comfortable. There are 2 balconies, one from the lounge and the other from the bedroom, both with a table, 2 chairs and washing line on each. The kitchen is well equipped, the shower room is good, and there is even a hairdryer supplied. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the beach, and a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest restaurant and supermarket. The pool area is lovely with plenty of sunbeds. The bar stays open until 2am most nights, and food is available until 9pm. We had food a few times and it was excellent. The staff are all really friendly and helpful - Christos gave us lots of advice on places to visit when we hired a jeep for a few days, he even printed a map of Kalymnos for us. His mum, Elea, was really nice and when we asked her where we could buy a Greek flag, she got one for us in Kos Town the same day! I would highly recommend their Barbeque Night on Thursday's, the food is great and the dancers are brilliant, it is really good fun. We would definitely stay at the Mayflower again.

OverallExcellent Resort

Tingaki is fairly small and quiet, but there is plenty to do, and the beach is lovely. The resort is mostly very flat, so it's great for walking or riding a bike (we hired 2 for 15 euros each for a week). It is also quite close to Kos Town, about a 20 min...

We stayed at the Mayflower apartments at the beginning of June for 2 weeks in view of a nice, relaxing holiday. This is exactly what we got. We opted for a studio so that we could cook during the day and eat out at night.

I don't think you will find a friendly hotel than this. We set off for a day out in Kos town and on the way, the lady who runs the hotel drove past and told us she would take us there as her husband runs a snack bar called Ideal and she was on her way! Make sure you visit this place, it is on the crossroads in the centre of Kos town.

THE HOTEL:
A few points about the room to make firstly:
1) The ";cutlery"; in our studio consisted of an old mug with 2 forks a spoon and some butter knives. One pan and two glasses.
2.) The bathroom was really tiny and had just a square on the floor which was the shower, no curtain as usual so we had to remove EVERYTHING from the bathroom so it didn't get soaked!
3.) The shower head was held in a cradle which was broken and completely usless so we had to hold the shower head the whole time.
4.) The maid took my bedsheet and bed cover and didn't return it. I asked for a new one, we were told it would be sent up.....it wasn't. 2 nights without any bedding, great.

The hotel rooms are along a long coridoor on two floors, this means everytime someone returns from a night out or arrives from a flight the noise is quite loud. Door slamming echoes down the coridoors which I found annoying but my partner didn't so maybe it is just me. The walls and floors seem very thin too, we could hear every word our neighbours said but didn't spend that much time there (due to lack of utensils) so not really a problem.

One issue we had was the rooms are cleaned everyday, but very basically. Literally emptied the bin and polished our balcony handrail. We had to clean the room ourselves. We moved our bed around when we arrived and found sweet wrappers, lipsticks etc under the beds with lots of dust. There was also an ant infestation in all corners of the balcony which we had to deal with. The apartment funnily enough comes equipped with a broom and a mop and bucket. (The mop and bucket is for when you use the bathroom. The entire bathroom floods, you see, when you have a shower. There is a drain in the middle of the floor so we found ourselves having to mop up before we got out of the shower as it was a few cm deep in water.

The hotel itself was fantastic. There are 2 pool tables, a ping pong table and a football table. 1 euro per go on the pool. The bar is great too, always staffed and drinks made very quickly with all the trimmings! (Cocktails anyway)

The hotel is situated in what looks like ";the outback";. About a 10 minute walk to the main strip of bars and restaurants, the beach is a little further on at the end of this road. Quite good as everything is in one place.
There are no other buidlings around the hotel so you don't get people from other hotels using the pool or traffic. In fact you cannot hear a thing at night. Behind the hotel you can see the mountain villages, one called Zia. Very beautiful place. We went to visit for a sunset evening where you get a fantastic view. Thomson were charging 17 euros for this trip, we went with Tingaki Express on the main strip and it cost us 6 euros each.

All in all, the hotel is very friendly and I would recommend it highly due to their hospitality. Even the maids were really chripy which I have never known in Greece! Brilliant for kids as the pool is quite big.

Tingaki is a good resort. Lots of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and supermarkets. The bus service is very good too. You will see the orange buses charging down the main strip, these buses run hourly to Kos town. From Kos town you can get a bus to virtually anywhere. I cost us about 1.60 euros to get home form Kos town. (The bus stop in Kos town is behind the church across the park)

Laste checkout room until 7pm is 20 euros. Air coniditoning has to be paid for.

SUMMARY
Very nice hotel, peaceful and nice setting. I think a little more attention paid to room hygiene wouldn't go a miss though. Family who run hotel are very friendly and have many customers returning year after year. All different ages at this hotel.

If you are thinking of booking The Mayflower do it quickly before it gets booked up. As far as self catering appartments go we couldn't fault it. As everyone has said on here, Christos and the family will make you very welcome and will help you to enjoy you...

If you are thinking of booking The Mayflower do it quickly before it gets booked up. As far as self catering appartments go we couldn't fault it. As everyone has said on here, Christos and the family will make you very welcome and will help you to enjoy your stay in Kos.

The Greek night/ Barbeque is excellent and as the appartment complex is small it really helps to get everyone talking. The pool area is fantastic, there are about 45 sunbeds for 22 appartments and because a lot of people use the beach, nobody got involved in putting towels out early which was refreshing to see. In fact you could turn up anytime and have a choice of places to sunbathe.

We did the Lido waterpark which was good and we hired a car for 10 days to see the island which was worthwhile. Kos Town, Zia and Kardamena are worth visiting for a change of scenery.

We used Sevi rent a car on the right hand side of the main road (next to Chopstix) ask for Nicos and negotiate!!!

We don't normally go to the same place more than once but we would definitely consider The Mayflower again.

Well, whar can I say. from the warm welcome we received the holiday just got better. The apartments were very comfortable and the pool area was excellent. The owners who live on sight were so kind and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of tavernas nearby, as was a huge supermarket. The meals at the apartments bar were very good and the BBQ evening with Greek dancing was superb. Full marks also to our Thomson holiday rep Yota. She was really professional and very well informed.

I would rally like to return to the Mayflower apartments!!!!
