We just got back from an excellent week on Lefkas, staying in the Nefeli studios at the far end of the main road. We booked this holiday fairly last minute and were looking for a relaxing holiday somewhere hot, and Lefkas seemed to fit the bill. The island was beautiful, the mountains providing a panoramic backdrop to the crystal clear seas. Nefeli studios were simple and clean, with spacious balconies, and the small pool at the appartments was a welcome sight after a hot day travelling around the island.

Nidri itself was quite geared up for tourism, as compared to some other parts of Greece, but it was nice to have the choice of places to eat and drink, and we found prices quite reasonable in the tavernas frequented by the locals. There was a good seafood restarant called ";pescador"; (i think) on the harbour side which was excellent.

We hired a moped from a small hire shop on the main street in Nidri (7.50E per day) which got us as far north as Lefkada and all the way to Vassiliki. We found it to be an excellent way to get around and explore the island, the main roads being well-surfaced. We also hired a car for a day (20E) from the same shop so that we could venture over to the west coast - the roads are not so good on the west side, if you want to get to the beaches. We also took a boat trip on the ";ionian princess"; to Porto Katsiki and Egremni beaches, well worth the 15 euros and an amazing day out which I would recommend to anyone (book the night before on the harbour side at Nidri for the best price). Snorkels were a must.

Finally, and the only negative points: we walked to the Nidri waterfalls which, in mid-summer were quite disappointing and looked fairly stagnant, but after rainfall we thought the gorge would probably be quite an impressive sight. Secondly, there were a lot of mosquitoes so take some good deet spray with you!
