"a get away from it all resort."

Great for beach life and tavernas. excellent food and inexpensive. No bus service or bank and very few bars.A picturesque harbour and a flat resort so worth hiring a bicycle out. Car hire suggested for part of the holiday.

"SELF CATERING APARTMENTS"

Skala Kallonis is a quiet location the square seems to be more popular with some nice bars and restaurants. Would highly recommend this resort for peace and quiet, and a car is essential.

OverallExcellent Hotel

Fantastic apartments, very spacious lovely and clean. Also no mosquitos in the room. Go to the website: www.kallonibayapartments.com This will give you a more detailed look at the rooms, there are 4 pools so more than likely you will have your own pool.

Skala Kalloni is a place to come on holiday if you want a lazy beach holiday with very little noise and your main enjoyment in the evening is eating out in one the tavernas where prices are cheap. our favourites were Ambrosia and Enigma. The beach is sand and shingle and you can hire 2 sun beds and a beach umbrella for 5 euros a day. The sea shelves slowly into the sea and the only major drawback was the sea grass at the bottom which we did not find very pleasant. There is no bank or public transport here. Taxis are few and far between so it is case of walking or hiring a bicycle. There are two local car hire companies in the resort and we used Dimitris in the Town Square. who we had no complaints with. There are a few mini markets and very little else, although there are 2 bakeries. The resort is typically Greek and had not become very commercialised. There is a small fishing harbour. Also wandering around the town you may come across the one legged Pelican who happily lives here. As there is very little to do here we came back thoroughly relaxed. The resort does come to life on a Sunday evening when Greeks from nearby towns converge on the resort for a family meal out.

We do not know whether the poor choice of hotel influenced our view of Skala Kolloni but overall it was not the best place in Greece we have stayed at. The beach was disappointing sand and shingle and dirty and there was a lot of sea grass which made swimming unpleasant. Also there were a large number of stray dog that were rather a nuisence. No public transport and very liitle to do. The only good point was eating out where we found the tavernas to be of a high standard and reasonable priced.

There is very little good to be said about the Kalloni 2 Hotel. The staff were rude and unhelpful, the room was small and dirty. We asked to be moved but were basically told to get on with it. The pool area had broken glass that nobody had bothered to clear...

Skala Kalloni is a fairly quit resort although we believe it does get busy during late July and August. The beach itself was excellent but the sea was a disappointment as we had to swim among the see weed. We found eating out to be a high standard providing you enjoy traditional Greek food. The local speciality are the sardines which are reputed to be the best in Greece. We though they nearly reached this description .We also found the food cheaper than some other resort in Greece. There is a small bakery making wonderful fresh bread a couple of shops and very little else. No public transport. The main town of Kalloni is just over 3 kilometres away and if walking is best undertaken early evening it took us about 50 minutes each way walking an easy pace.Kalloni itself is nothing to wwrite home about but importantly it does have a Bank with a cash machine and a chemist. Also it has a gretater array of shops including a larger supermarket and a hardware store. There is one bus a day to the capital.
