The hotel is easily the best accommodation that we have had in Greece. Four Poster bed, good size bathroom, cleaned every day to a very high standard. Large pool which is also cleaned thoroughly everyday - free internet and emails if you need to keep in touch with home. The breakfasts start at eight and seem to go on all morning - so no pressure on getting up at any particular time.

The hotel is situated about 200 yards from a small beach at Meloi (no sun loungers but a couple of Tavernas) - beach sandy and water clear. Slightly further (ask for the shortcut down a rocky path - saves you about twenty minutes) is the town of Skala. Another small beach but an assortment of bars, shops and taverns. You can walk from one side of the island to the other and catch some nice sunsets on the opposite side.

Always dominant is the town of Chora where the Monastery is and the Cave of the Apocalypse. Easily walkable from Skala (although uphill - use the Pilgrm's path - this goes past the Cave of the Apocalypse). Wonderful narrow streets and like a maze - try and see the sunset from the sunset chapel. It means finding a guide book as quite difficult to find otherwise.

From the hotel in the direction away from Skala and just at the top the hill is the descent to Agriolivadi. Some nice tavernas and sun beds and from there if you can spot the footpath on the hills to the left of the beach is a 40 minute walk over to Kambos which was our favourite (the bus also goes there so no need to do the walk). George's place is a great place to eat and there are sunbeds and some water sports.

The bus service and taxis are very good. We got a bus to Grikos and from there walked to the far south of the island down to Diakofti (the narrowest part of the island) and then over the hills to the unreachable (other than walking and boat) Psilli Ammos.- meant to be the best beach on the island but not in my opinion as nice as Kambos. One Taverna and sea quite rough. A bit windy here and if so the sand can blast you and make it very unpleasant so we were told.

Absolutely fantastic 2 weeks - our rep was very informative and made no attempt to sell us anything - very good indeed,
