Arrived at PalmaRiva Hotel expecting to be staying in a hotel but instead we were allocated a ";bungalow"; which turned out to be an apartment as it was up four flights of stairs. Ok if you are young and fit but not suitable for older people.

Hotel itself was very good, had excellent facilities with easy access to the swimming pool and beach.
Swimming pool was quiet with plenty of sun loungers then down a few steps and you were right on a private beach.
Also with loads of sun loungers that you didnt have to pay for.

The apartments were very clean maid came in every day also had a fridge and great air conditioning.
The food was good, plenty to choose from and as much as you wanted but hot food was not always hot.
There was always plenty of entertainment on during the day e.g - aqua gym, beach volleyball, mini golf, water sports etc,in the evenings shows like Greek nights, Mr Palmariva, kareoake, the entertainment people worked hard to get everyone envolved, you had to buy your drinks from the hotel bar as you had no other option. It cost 2 euros for a bottle of coke and 5 euro 50 for a vodka and lemonade.
We found the place very isolated with no other pubs or clubs within walking distance.
Taxi into Eretria cost 4 euros. It's somewhere to go for a break away from the pool. There is also a cheap ferry (1.40) which runs every 10 - 15 mins over to the main land as the Greek's call it to do on another day. Shops can be found along the far end of the strip.

Overall, we enjoyed our relaxing time there but wouldn't go back due to the isolation of the hotel.

Travelled Glasgow to Athens with Air Scotland.Punctual 4 hour flight, but boring as no radio, tvs or films.
Hassle-free transfers from airport to hotel, considering there were 3 bus loads of Scots all going to the same place!Don't be put off by journey from airport to Eretria-it looks as though you're travelling along one huge industrial estate! Not scenic in the least.

Palma Riva hotel is siuated on a small artificial beach with views across the bay to mainland Greece.(Evia Island is the second largest Greek Island after Athens and is connected to mainland Greece by a road-bridge).

The hotel itself is very nice, rooms comprise of a choice between garden bungalows or rooms in the main building.Rooms are basic, not 4* quality, but are air-conditioned,cleaned daily and supplied with clean towels daily.

Food is good, varied and plentiful. Buffet-style breakfast and dinner.A real bonus is being able to have dinner at the side of the pool, overlooking the sea!

Pool itself is large, clean and not too busy. Sunbed situation was fine until the Scots started going down and laying down their towels at 7am! Beach was nice with free sunbeds and parasols, seemed safe with a life-guard always on duty during the day.(Watch out when in the sea though as many peole got stung with something!)Watersports are on beach;banana and donuts pulled by motorboat-10 euros and pedaloes and canoes-2 euros (not free as stated on the web-site).

Entertainment was okay, not for anyone looking for a wild night-life. Drinks were expensive. Downside of hotel was that you couldn't go for a walk anywhere except along the little stretch of beach in front of the hotel. A main road runs along the back of the hotel, but you couldn't walk along it as there are no pavements and mad drivers!
However you could get a taxi into the nearby harbour town of Eretria for only 4 euro. This has lots of little tavernas (with menus in Greek!) and bungee trampolines for the kids! It's also worth taking a ferry from there to the town of Oropos- only 4 euros 50 return for 4 people!A lovely cool, breezy 25min crossing and you can return when you like.

When you're so close it seems necessary to go to Athens. We went by organised excursion from hotel (expensive at 60euros each). It can be done much cheaper by boat and train, but be careful as in temperatures of 40 degrees plus, an air-conditioned coach was a God-send! The Acropolis and Parthenon were worth seeing, but in December not July!! The heat nearly killed all us Scots!

All in all, I would recommend this holiday to those looking for a relaxing, quiet time and certainly not for young people looking for night-life. A lovely hotel, friendly staff and a taste of Greece as it was 20 years ago. Many old Greek people use the hotel, also French,Italians ,Spanish and us Scots. No English or Germans(yet!!).

We would definitely go back!

Went to the Palna Riva Hotel mid august with discount holidays (air scotland flight), and to say the least was slightly aprehensive about my holiday beforehand. I had never heard of the island before and was told when i was booking that i was going to be quiet, i wasn't looking for anything too busy anyway.

the flight arrived in time and transfers over were about 2 hours, our rep on the bus was a greek man and was very helpful, told us about different excursions we could go on.

on arrival at the hotel the place looked stunning. the food was great, entertainment was good. the rooms were tidied daily, all staff were friendly. dont get me wrong they were the occasional people who were moaning that the place was too quiet but as far as i know they were told it was going to be quiet.

to be honest though i wanted to get away with good sunshine, good food in a decent hotel and i got that, so i would recommend in to anyone looking for a chilled holiday (if you want something lively when you are there, there is a club in the town so i was told).
i would go back anytime.

I would recommend this as a relaxing holiday for a week. Booked this the day before departure cos it was a good price. This hotel is on the second biggest of the Greek islands, Evia, just off the mailand and was about 1 hour on the bus from Athens. The hotel is right on the beach, has a lovely clean pool, is very comfortable and has lovely views of the hills from the dining room and back facing rooms of the hotel. We stayed in one of the lodge time rooms within the garden of the hotel. Very nice staff, especially Nick the waiter. But all the Greeks are nice not like the dour Spaniards.

Food was very good, good choice of salad not always chips because the Greeks don't eat them with nearly everything like we do. Free non-motorised water sports included.

Only complaint was that you are not able to walk into the village of eretria because there is no pavement on the main road and the Greeks drive like maniacs so don't even think of walking along there in the dark!! Drinks were a bit pricey, more suited to the Italians and French all staying at the hotel. Entertainment provided down at the beach arena, disco later in evening or piano music in the lounge/reception/bar area. On the last night they had a mixed nationality karaoke which everyone enjoyed. It's also very handy for visiting Athens.
