"Perfect Paxos, Average Amfitriti!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed in the Amfitriti Hotel Apartments in July 2008. It is in the lovely resort of Lakka, which is every beautiful and quite.
The hotel is situated on its own, overlooking its own beach and the village of Lakka in the distance. We couldn't fault the location.
The hotel has three main blocks, which are set back from each other. The majority of the rooms have a view out to the sea (some views are blocked by olive trees, but still beautiful) and their own balcony. However, there are some rooms with no view or balcony which are inland - hot, awful and depressing!
The rooms are large in size, have a TV and kitchenette facilities (well a sink, pans, two cooking rings and a cups/plates/glasses/crockery, a fridge etc). We were fine with these basic appliances, but the Bastas Hotel offers their guests real kitchen appliances.
The bathrooms do not have shower curtains, and they are cleanish! The towels and bed linen provided smelt like a wet dog - obviously not washed at high temps or not dried properly! This is changed twice a week, which is great, but would be better if the towels were clean and not 20 years old! The floor of the room was never mopped, and I never smelt any cleaning products being used. I bought some detol and cleaned the apartment myself! We went to the Bastas Hotel for a look and the cleaners were cleaning the rooms really thoroughly and I could smell cleaning products - seemed a cleaner hotel!
The toilet bins and rubbish bags are collected every day which is good.
The hotel is a family establishment. The owners don't tend to speak to you, their daughter Nancy meets you on your arrival and walks you from Lakka to the hotel (a bus can't take you due to the location), which is a nice walk. Nancy (blonde hair) also works behind the poolbar and is damn miserable - all the people staying at the same time as us got the same impression - she hates the quests! We kept away from her! There is another daughter (dark hair) which does all the hotel admin and allocated rooms, she was always polite. Nancy's son (about 15 years old and very friendly) and the owner managed the sunbeds on the beach, which are 6 euro for two beds.
The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Lakka and is a great walk. The hotel is an uphill walk from the beach, so don't go if you're not OK with walking up hills.
There is a pool at the hotel which we never used but looked nice and sunbeds are free.
Overall, beautiful location, but needs a bit of TLC!

We were very lucky to be given a room in the main building overlooking the pool and the bay. What a fabulous view every morning! The room was very large, with comfortable, good sized beds. Towels and sheets were changed every other day.If you want a kettle, take your own, otherwise manage with a saucepan, this is not unusual. The bathroom was big too and there was always a good supply of hot water. There is a great supply of reading books in the reception. The furniture was basic but that is normal for the Greek islands. Had we been given a room in the buildings behind we probably wouldn't have been so happy. It is very steep with loads and loads of steps. We felt that the place could do with some TLC but the position is idyllic. The footpath to the hotel from the village is ok. Take a torch for a small section of it but most of it is lit. On the downside, there were no parasols by the sun loungers by the pool, which made it impossible for us to laze by the pool through the day.The pool is a seawater pool. The beach is owned by the hotel and they charge you for sunbeds as well as the general public which I felt was a bit unfair. There are no parasols here either but you can get shade under the olive trees. The beach is very stony so I suggest some suitable footwear to get you into the sea. This hotel is not suitable for the elderly or those with walking difficulties. Our trip with Olympic was very organised. We had a one hour wait at the ferry port. We were put on the hydrofoil which takes 1hour and 10 mins.May I suggest that if you book a tour through the rep, please check your reciept at the time of making your payment. I won't say any more on that subject.

Amfitriti hotel or Everest base camp as we called it, having visited Greece for the last 20 years we expect basic, no problem here basic was what we got, if you book this accomodation please try and ensure you have a balcony our room had only a small window with no view, self catering seemed to be made impossible (not that we wanted to eat in) with no kettle just a huge pan to boil water in, a tiny fridge (no ice box), a damp smell lingering in the cupboards and wardrobes with very poor standard of decor maintenance, this toward the end of the season you could possibly excuse but damp patches on the walls with paint flaking off no handles to drawers etc at the start of the season was a bit disappointing, the bedding along with the towels were changed twice during our stay of 1 week with the towels having that well used look, when you leave your room and travel the 80 odd steps with adjoining steep inclines down to the beach where they charge ALL, including residents for the use of sunbeds (2 beds NO parasol for 6 euro) you may feel you have arrived in paradise (OH MY GOD WHAT A VIEW). The hotel also has a sea water pool and pool bar with a few sunbeds (FREE) but no parasols, the village is a 5 min walk along a undulating path and is a real pleasure when reached with fantastic tavernas and wonderful friendly locals, unfortunately the day comes to an end and the thought of climbing the mountain back to your room enters the mind, the room also got very stuffy so we paid for the air con (12 Euros a day asking price but make an offer we got it for 10 and another resident managed to get it for only 8 euro per day) this hotel is a no no for anyone with walking difficulties and in our opinion was disappointing but the beautiful resort of Lakka on the idyllic island of Paxos made up for any disappointment with the hotel

This was our second visit to Lakka and it didn't disappoint.....
Just a little bit of advice if you are planning to travel to Paxos with Olympic - be prepared for a wait at the ferry port for your transfer to Paxos.
We had a fairly long wait but just made the best of our time in Corfu Town watching the mad traffic sitting in the Taverna/bar. Olympic may have more ferry trips planned for later in the season though.
The holiday Rep - Colin - met us at the port and kept us informed and updated. He was really helpful and knowledgable about Corfu and Paxos too which makes a change.
The long wait and the ferry trip is all well worth it once you arrive on this beautiful island - absolute paradise.
The apartments are quite good for Paxos - however there are many steps to the rooms which could cause difficulties for the more elderly travellers.
Not too sure about the owner, Nancy - seems very nice but she doesn't miss a trick and is extremely money minded.
The hotel has to be approached from the village across a very uneven path which again is quite an assault course- take a torch!!!!!
If eating out our favourite place has to be Jackies Klimataria :in one of the squares walking away from the harbour.
Jackie's husband works the tables etc whilst Jackie is busy in the kitchen - this is easily the best place to eat in Lakka.Make sure you try the Apple Cake and her homemade cheesecake - delicious.
Our favourite bar - 'AKIS' on the harbour front, ideal spot - try it and see!!!
Lakka is our favourite Greek hideaway by a mile.... ENJOY!

We booked last minute on the direct holidays website we arrived on the tuesday morning we got a sea taxi to the island, the Olympic holiday rep was an hour late because apparently we were an hour early.
The Amfitriti hotel was on a bit of hill which meant you had to climb so this was not good for people who had walking difficulties it was a 5 minute walk down the hill to get to the village .
The village was a very small place there weren't many shops but there were quite a few resteraunts the only thing i will warn you about is the cats they scavenge for food , the view from the hotel was lovely you could see right out to the sea.
Nancy the person who ran the place was really friendly, the village was a very quite place apart from when the local team played football. One thing i will mention is that when you are on the beach take out a peddalo you can see everything, this will cost you just 10 euros, this place is very famous for water sports the only thing i would say about the Amfitriti to make it a bit better is they should put up a picture. One place i would mention is akis bar which is right on the harbour we really enojoyed this holiday and would love to go back in the near future.
