been to this island many times and stayed in this village for last 15 years, could not stay in usual accomidation so tried the rodos star hotel we will not be returning to this hotel,

the hotel was clean, the maid service was good, but the meals were very dissapointing, the water was cold nearly every night for shower, and some of the staff including the owner was a bit arragant and money motivated, the drinks in hotel were not on parr with down in the village, the patio chairs were a total disgrace i would,nt sit on them, the hill up to the hotel is very steep and would not be very good for anyone without transport, some of the best places to visit in the village are the four seasons restraunt, sergios restraunt, the life bar with yannis is agreat night out

Thought we would place a review as this sight has been very helpful in the past.

Rodos Star is a nice hotel situated on top of a huge hill (cardiac hill as it was called locally). The 5 euros we paid for a taxi up the hill from the village square were well spent. The rooms are basic but clean and the views are fantastic. Staff were helpful and we hired a car through the hotel - definately a necessity to see more of the island. The pool area was clean but a few of the beds were broken. The bars in the hotel were more expensive than in Afandou itself but, because of the walk back from the town (up the hill in the soaring temperatures) your choice for lunch/snacks/drinks is very limited.

Afandou itself has a good selection of well priced and reasonable restaurants epsecially Tasty Restaurant and the 2 Italian restaurants near the square. Mike's Bar serves cracking toasties and makes you feel very welcome.

Don't bother booking any tours with the reps - simply catch the bus into Rhodes and take your pick from the harbour - all less than half the price the tour companies charge for exactly the same excursions. Our rep was pretty hopeless and we had better info on the resort from this site!

Overall, Afandou is a lovely resort and well placed for accessing other parts of the island.

Have just returned from Rodos star Hotel , good hotel by some of the greek hotel standards, we were bandb- Breakfast came as a bit of a shock- not the usual cobblestones and coffee you usually get for breakfast at Greek hotels but something actually edible. Hotel itself is kept spotlessly clean by the two hard-working cleaners towels changed every day,bit dissapointed by the managers two children running the reception and poolbar during daylight hours. Affandou is great some good places to eat and drink try the Life garden for food. onlydownside to the holiday was THE HILL you can't have walking or breathing difficulties if your going to holiday at this hotel.

The Rodos Star Hotel is on top of a hill above Afandou village. The village has plenty of tavernas and restaurants with the Four Seasons restaurant being the best we found.
The Rodos Star Hotel is described in the brochures as a quiet relaxing location for couples wanting to get away from the noisier locations. The noise/music from the bar and reception area means all the rooms in the block above and attached to the lobby staircase/restaurant area are very noisy through out the night. Loud music was played most nights, often until 2 or 3am.

The hotel is generally scruffy with broken loungers at the pool area.
The island of Rhodes is very scenic with spectacular views at Monolithos,Filemeros and most of the knights castles. Lindos is very nice with lots of shops hidden within the alleys.
Afandou beach is easy to get to from the village using the hourly land train which only costs 1 euro each way.
Taxis are relatively cheap ( 16 euros to Rhodes walled city).

We liked Afandou but would not go back to the Rodos star.

The staff were very friendly, although the hotel owners children seemed to do reception and did not know exchange rates for travellers cheques so were always phoning for correct rates which did not make us feel confident. The hotel itself was very clean and the rooms cleaned daily apart from Sundays. The food was not particulary good, the breakfast was a basic contiential type with occasionally bacon or egg supplied. There is a poolside buffet where you can buy cooked meals from 10am until 5pm. The evening meals were OK if you like chips. We stayed for 14 nights and 12 of these the meals were served with chips!

The pool is kept very clean and there is always loungers available.

The hotel is located on a very, and I mean very, steep hill but you do have great views over Afando! Halfway up the hill you feel like you need an oxygen intake. Definately not one for people with breathing difficulties or heart problems. Afandou is a 10 minute walk away, very friendly people and we found an excellent restaurant in the main square called Bon Viveur run by George and William who made our holiday one to remember. The food is cooked by their father and is excellent and very good value for your money.

The beach is about a mile from Afandou Square but a train runs hourly in the morning from 10 til 12 again at 3 and then 5pm until 9 for one euro which is well worth the money. The beach is shingle and has no amenities on it.

We had an excellent holiday in Afandou, and feel the only draw back was the hotel being on such a steep hill. We will definately go back to Afandou but unfortunately will not stay at the Rodos Star for the sake of the hill!

Had enough of the british weather so took a very last minute holiday with Golden Sun, because of a mistake by Golden Sun we ended up at The Rodos Star, not that I'm complaining, it is a very nice hotel we had a view to die for.

Everywhere was clean and the staff very friendly. I did think the aircon was a bit expensive but essential. Only ate the breakfast so can't comment on the food, the breakfast is basic, continental, but only to be expected really.

Afandou is a rather spread out area, didn't venture into the town, and the beach was shingle. We found ourselves going to Kolympia, about 10 minutes down the road (I think a car is essential), it has three lovely beaches, quite a few scandinavians there, heard very few english. We found a lovely bar right in a little cove right on the beach, gorgeous, sat there till midnight most nights. Think it was called Nassaki Beach.

Drove round most of the island, Rhodes town is lovely, a must, and Lindos is breathtaking, try taking the donkeys up the hill, if you can, quite an adventure, but I felt sorry for the poor little thing by the time we got to the top. Most of the island is quite barren but still lovely views if you take the coastal road round the island. Found our favourite restaurant to be Nikos in Kolympia. Favourite beach was called Golden Sands about half hour from Afandou. Definately going back to Rhodes.

I feel I must add that I was very impressed with our Golden Sun rep she dealt with our problem quickly and it was all very pleasant. All in all a fab holiday.

We stayed at the rodas star hotel for one week, two weeks would have been to much, breakfast is not worth getting up for, if you want a full english you have to go to the pool bar and pay for it, dinner was o.k.you also have to pay for aircon and fridges if you require the you will need the aircon.Although the people who own it are very freindly they will give you a lift into or up from the town.Don't beleive what the brochure say's about it not being on a hill more like a mountain anyone with walking difficulties should give this one a miss oh and breathing difficulties because when you reach the top you will need a shot of air and also it say's it is in walking distance of Falaraki it aint you will have to get a taxi to and from.Afandou is nice not much night life but plenty of bar's where the waiters are all very friendly and some of them do great cocktails try the La piatta and the Alfa bar in the square there is one night club called Diva and there is also a bar next door to it which is part of the night club they say that Afandou is up and coming we liked it as it was it would be a shame to turn it into another falaraki.

I have just returned from a holiday in Afandou last week and seeing as though there was no reviews for this hotel that I could find when I went I am adding my own.

The Rodos Star is a nice hotel with good facilities and is clean. Most of it has been renovated very recently and everything seems new. The staff are brilliant from the friendly barman Nick to the owner tathos, there is a great atmosphere.

Rooms are cleaned daily by 2 crazy greek women and the apartments are nice. Some apartments are newerthan others and I stayed in one of the older ones which is still clean and comfortable, with wc and balcony. Hotel entertainment is different each night and the bar stays open late as the people in it stay up.

The food is nice and there is a variety of food in the buffet which is different each day and there is bound to be somthing for everyone.

I booked last minute and got a week here half board for just under £200 in July which I thought was a good deal.
The hotel is 5 or 10 minutes from the town which has lots of bars and restaurants. The local beach is quiet and can be reached by public transport.
All in all a good holiday, met a few nice couples and was pleased with the accomodation
