"Tommys Apartments review"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Poor

Open quote

In the past we have always travelled to Greece with Manos, on numerous occasions, and they have never let us down before. Tommys, however, was another story, and would make me think twice before booking with Manos again.

Tommys consists of 5 apartments, all above the taverna/restaurant. We had two of the apartments and the others appeared to be lived in by the owner - certainly there were no other holiday makers staying there.

The route from the road to the apartments was a little dangerous, to say the least. You had to walk past allsorts of BBQs (which had just been dumped there), you had to climb over pipes and tubes at the same time as negotiating the steps! There was a sweeping brush left at the top of the steps, which regularly fell over.

The apartments themselves were a reasonable size, but were certainly not clean. We went during the second week of the season, so we would expect clean rooms, linen etc. The linen was stained and had holes in it, there was ";stuff"; under the bed and between the mattress and the bottom of the bed - we know this because the room was not cleaned for our entire stay, nor were the bed linen and towels changed, so we had to make the bed ourselves!

When we arrived there were snail/slug type things at the top of the interior walls - they looked like they had been there for a while! The apartments certainly did not look like they had been given a good clean that day.

The bathroom was dirty and, in places, even mouldy. There was no shower curtain, tray or even a lip on the floor. The entire, small, bathroom flooded each time we had a shower. We had to use one of the two towels provided (for the entire week) to put on the floor outside the bathroom, to try and keep the rest of the apartment dry!

Minimal self catering facilities in the rooms, and what there was felt dirty. We took my mum with us who had the other apartment (which was no better) and she bought her own cup and spoon to use for the week!

After 3/4 days there was no sign of any cleaning in either of the apartments - they had not even bothered to empty the toilet bins, we spoke with the Rep - who was most helpful - and she said she would speak with the owner. That night my mum's apartment was cleaned, and the owner told us that she had lost the key to our apartment and if we left the key with her she would clean the room! Dread to think how long she would have waited before telling us this, had the rep not spoken to her. Anyway, by this time, my husband was fed up and so told her politely not to bother - we didn't want to spoil our holiday by traipsing back and forward to our apartment to see if she had finished the cleaning and if we could have our key back. Therefore the apartment was not cleaned, nor towels or linen changed, for the entire holiday.

Certainly would NOT recommend Tommys, and would definitely not stay there again.

However, Haraki is lovely and we would defintely return, just not with Manos.

There are quite a few resaurants/tavernas - probably about 8-10 in total now. A new Italian has just opened - really nice. In addition, the Italian has 4-5 brand new studios above - small but immaculate and they have air conditioning! Air con appears to be in shortage in Haraki!

The beach was lovely and quiet, a bit pebbly. Most of the tavernas and bars, and accomodation come to that, are situated along the front, facing the sea. This is a lovely place to spend your day, and your night, having a nice meal and a few cocktails.

Prices for food and drink were OK, but I think Greece in general has gone more expensive since the Euro came in. NO ATM/cash machine in Haraki, and only one or two of the supermarkets take credit cards. Actually, Haraki only has about 3 supermarkets and one shop! It is however a lovely resort and we would definitely return.

All accommodation in Haraki seems to be central - Haraki has one main road in and out, and then the pedestrianised road along the prom.

Very little building work going on - in fact we saw only 1 block of new apartments being built - and yes, there were directly opposite our apartment!

Haraki is very popular with the Greeks at weekend - the place was packed! (well, by Haraki standards anyway).

To sum up, a lovely holiday, spoiled only by the accommodation. The weater was fantastic, over 100 degrees every day during second week in May!
