We were worried after reading the reviews about going on this holiday, but i can honestly say it was the best holiday i have ever been on. The hotel itself is lovely, clean and friendly. The entertainment was brill day and night. The food was good and the rooms were lovely. The entertainers were fantastic. I went with my partner and we are both under the age of 21, and we made lots of friends that were families and young couples too. the aircraft noise wasnt bad at all, i enjoyed watching them go over when i was sun bathing and at night we never heard a thing. If you have booked to go next year you will love it, dont listen to the bad reports. We cant wait for our next visit next year!

Bin back from holiday now for 2 weeks from the blue bay hotel, missing it already can't wai to go back next year. Couldnt fault anything entertainment was great entertainment team were brilliant especially with kids, the days around the pool were livley with games and quizzes, the food was brilliant a variety for everyone from salads to buger and chips for the kids it was a god send for ice creams from 10 till 6 and cold drinks on tap, the rooms were clean ad adequate the hotel staff were helpful and the water park across the road was good we went about 4 times and it was free. Going to book next year cant wait to see billy and baboo and the rest of the team.

My family and I went to this hotel from June 14th to 28th 2008, after reading reviews I was a little bit nervous however the rooms were cleaned 6 days a week pools cleaned every evening (main pool and 2 childrens pools). Food was good you had range from salad to chinese to beef or pork with chips, pasta or roasties, that was just some but the variety of food available was really good. Entertainment team (Billy & Baboo) throughout the day was excellant, they organised games from water polo, volleyball, darts, football on the beach and pool games not just for the children but adults as well. During the night they arranged a mini disco for kids and put a show on for all the families, just like the cleaners they do get a day off and there is no entertainment on Tuesdays. A holiday is not a holiday unless there is some downsides, this hotel is in line with the flight path for landing planes but after the second week we all got used to it. A lot of Germans were there and they are so bad mannered they jumped queues for the bar and food but we just gave them as good as we got. One point to bare in mind, we booked via first choice all inclusive and upon arrival we received green wrist bands to highlight this and got free sunbeds and 10 days entry to the water park which costs someone else 10 euros each, some people booked independently via other sources i.e. teletext and received orange wrist bands not knowing that they would have to pay for sunbeds around the pool or beach. So when booking make sure your sunbeds are included otherwise you will have to pay 3 euros a day for each one. Also the water park next door which is good. You can hire vehicles within the hotel at 58 euros for three days and that was plenty of time to see the whole island. We felt we were leaving just in time as this hotel was starting to get busy. Overall very impressed we would go back
We tried looking for this hotel via this site to try and get a review before bookin, but could not find one, so we thought we should write 1.

We tried looking for this hotel via this site to try and get a review before bookin, but could not find one, so we thought we should write 1.
we booked a last minute ";5"; star all inclusive holiday. this hotel is NOT a 5 star hotel. even our Rep, told us that it was more like a 2 star, and when we asked if anything was going to be done about it, we might as well have talked to ourselves.
we arrived at Rhodes to be told that our mini bus couldnt be bothered waiting for us, and that we would have to get Taxis to the hotel (which wasnt very far actually- so close the hotel might as well have been on the runway) we arrived having had to get out of the taxi so it could get over bumps because of the poor road conditions, to be greated by the receptionist, telling us off!! because we had been delayed? also demanding to know where everybody else from our flight was?!
We then went to our double room that was 2 singles pushed together, and slept a while.
the pool- was horrendous. i would not trust it to put children in. our yourself. we thought it was sea water when we 1st got down to the pool. it was brown. it was however cleaned the next day, but then not cleaned again for the rest of our week there.
this is not to have a go at other people staying at the hotel, or at other nationalities, but this hotel, very obviously, is not focused on English. which i know people may think,";well thats what you go on holiday for"; - what we mean by this is that there were only 3 parties of English people in the Hotel. so when it came to it there was a mix of at least 7 different nationalities staying, of which we were the minority. this is fine until it comes to entertainment. the entertainers were Polish, and the entertainment was very poor, due to this hurdle that they had to speak 4 different languages at the same time. entertainment was 1pm Aqua aerobics. 3pm water polo. 9.30 pm evening entertainment that lasted til 10.30 pm! and was Bingo, quiz, darts comp, pool comp,a Greek singer.(1 of these per night) it was very, very boring.
FOOD- again, i would warn people not to eat it. we got ill and knew of another person who was bed ridden. we were all inclusive and did not eat at the hotel after our 2nd night. its not that the food was horrble or looked horrible, it was just dangerous. it was luke warm. the chefs were lifting the metal trays to put in to the buffet with their bare hands. you could easily lift up metal tongs without them hurting you from the ";heat lamps"; we were not the only ones having to do this as well.
rooms- were fine, nice big and airy, and the bathroom was lovely with a nice big bath. 1 of the only saving graces of the hotel. you also have a fridge which is very convienient.
Bar- great, if you can get served. its a typical hotel bar that is round so people can try and get served at any end. No not here. it was the height of season and they ran the bar with a full hotel on 3 staff. only 1 of which served. 1 glass collected, another watched, talked, washed glasses, and basically did anyhting that avoided serving customers. and you had to queue at 1 point of the bar.
also if you are a plane spotter this hotel is ideal. the planes fly so low over the pool and Hotel you can wave at the pilot. this is being totally serious. Sunday is the main change over day- we counted to about 50 planes before 12pm, and then lost interest counting!
beach- was pebbles rocks and stones and you had to pay for the sunbeds.
overall- do not come to this Hotel or resort. it has put us off Greece forever, and we loved it before hand. this is from a young couple that love their holidays and have never complained before. we have learned from this, and feel obliged to let people know what this place is like.

Just returned from a week at the Ocean Blue Hotel. First the negatives, it is advertised as a 5 Star Hotel after being upgraded, realistically it is more like a 3* plus. My wife and myself upgraded to a Superior room, which aledgedly had a Private pool, this turned out to be a not so private canal pool, with a little bridge to your room. The room itself was also pretty unique, with a large picture window from the bedroom into the bathroom, it had no blind so if you enjoy sharing your toileting habits, this is the room for you!
It was also advertised as having an ironing board, but there are none in the rooms. The rooms have obviously just been refurbished, but there were bits hanging off the furniture, and the drain grill in the bathroom had snapped in half.
Every morning at 10am a reveille sounded, I kid you not, and the mornings Animation Team ,entertainment schedule was announced.
The Entertainment was something else, which encouraged us to be somewhere else!
We wre lucky enough to meet a really nice Sottish couple( hello John and Linda) and really enjoyed their Company. Apparently there was a Girl's aloud tribute act, and they asked the younger girls if they wanted to have their photo taken with them, and charged them 3 euros for the privilege! The rest of the so called entertainment was a music quiz, Bingo and other audience participation activities, awful!!
The drinks were the usual AI fare, and definately to the formula 10 Bacardis = 1 Shandy.
Now the positives, the food was good, with a wide range of choices to suit all tastes, and always hot and fresh.
The standard of cleanliness in the Hotel is also very good, with rooms cleaned daily and to a high standard.
The pool was also very clean, although it was hard to get a sun bed, unless you put you towel out really early. There were plenty of free sunbeds on the beach, which is where we spent most of our time.
The beach isn't really up to much, and is mostly pebbles and gravel, although the sea was beautifully warm, and a few steps across the road from the Hotel.
There is a beach bar in the Hotel grounds, but is not part of the AI deal.
The Hotel is advertised as being in Ialyssos, but is actually in Kremasti, which is a small Village. There isn't much to visit, but there are a few bars and restaurants nearby. There's Karaoke in the Ideal Bar, which is next to a well stocked Supermarket. You have to call into the restaurant/bar next to the Ocean Blue, just to hear the dodgy London Accent of the Greek owner, we thought he was putting it on, it's real!
There's a Bowling alley in the Village, which was a really good night out,and the bus to Rhodes town, stops outside the Hotel. Really good value at just under 2 Euros each way, we loved Rhodes Town, really Beautiful.
The waiters and Bar Staff, were very efficient and the Dining area light and airy. Most of the guests were either from Italy or the former Russian States,
The Hotel has it's pluses and minuses, but overall we had a great time, and the weather was superb, but wouldn't like to stay there if the weather was inclement, as there would be nothing to do!
Arrived at the airport only to get stopped by the drug squad to be strip searched, nice welcome! So make sure you get your cases and leave the airport as quickly as you can in a group and don't dare to dress different!!!

Taxi to the hotel was 13 euros. Ask for a price list from the driver as they have set tariffs to different parts of the island, all reasonable prices.
On arrival at the hotel the main foyer is large, airy and all marble, nice and cool. The reception staff were very friendly and spoke good English.
The only problem with arriving late (2am after the search)is there is nowhere to get a drink as there are no facilities in the room or round the resort so be prepared and take something with you.
once you have booked in the porter takes your cases (and if your in the last block, you as well), on a kind of golfing cart to your room.
The rooms are like any other hotel room, cleaned every day, beds made and towels changed. beach towels are available free of charge and plenty of sun beds, but if you want to get close to the main pool be prepared to get up earlier than the Germans to stake your claim with your towel, when we arrived we observed the towel ritual, at 3.30 am!!!!!
The resort is clean and tidy, not suitable for disabled though due to the amount of steps.
Up until now it has been leased to a German tour operater all this is set to change next season with major refurbishment of the rooms and a change of management so next season it will be readily available to the British market.
Still mainly Germans at the hotel at the moment so as you can imagine the Germans still think they own it!!!! Some are quite rude and seem to think they can reserve everything with a towel or handbag and jump queues if in a hurry.
The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly.
The food is ok like most other all inclusive hotels but gets a bit repetitive after a few days. The waiters are very efficient but may take your plate while you still have the cutlery in your hands, we did see the funny side though.
The hotel is on the arrivals flight path but I have to be honest it didn't really bother us.
On the whole it's a lovely clean hotel and right on the beach and plenty to keep the kids occupied.
The staff in the resort are friendly and helpful.

Holidays from hell.....
please take heed of this warning...
we were told that this hotel was 4-5 stars and excellent but it is actually by far the worst i have stopped in. we should have known when the coach driver dropped us off on the main road that we were in for a nightmare and so we got one.
So far the food is something that i would not give to my worst enemy it is only what i would describe as slop. we have to pluck up courage to go and eat and as of the 2nd day we have not had a breakfast, had 2 lunches we do eat the evening meal but only as we are starving...the actual dining room is like a sauna and even with cold drinks the sweat just keeps on dribbling down your neck.
the accomodation is not as bad as the food but really if this is 5* then i will go and play chicken on the fast lane of the M1.
The entertainment is non existent so if you have kids and come here then bring plenty more euros or a dvd player or your own entertainment cos going to the bar area where the mozis are in mass is just a lottery of waiting to get bitten to death,,,
The hotel also has other areas of interest for the avid david bailey type person. go and see the tenth wonder of the world and stand near the patio doors near the pool tables above a sheer drop of 6ft so for any toddlers this is like extreme sports.
I, myself and my son aged 11, wanted to leave straight away but when we spoke to the rep on our 2nd day we were not convinced by the lack of interest she showed to us. Hence she came back to us (phoned us on mobile) and told us that bcos we were only 4* (ha ha 2 at a push)then the only hotel on the island with any accomodation was next door (elektra beach) and they wanted another 1000 pounds for 11 days. we were also told this was our only option and that was final. prior to speaking to the rep we contacted the hellenic office in wakefield and explained the nightmare scenario that we were in and they explained that they would get the male supervisor to phone back asap........2 hrs later we phoned them again..........no callback the rep was at the post office again..and again...so you can see where i am going.
oh and just to finish. we have now stopped having all dinners and will be asking for packed lunches as apples pears bread and butter with some water cannot be as bad as SLOP.

After reading all the negatives on here about the Ocean Blue, I was to say the least a little concerned. However let me tell you here and know, this year its a great place to stay.
The rooms are very well appointed, the whole hotel area is very clean, and the food was good with a varied selection. As with all holidays, you can always find something to moan about, and even at the Ocean Blue not everything is perfect. The beer/lager, for example is not the best, in fact is pretty rank. The evening entertainment is less than impressive, although when they did provide caberet shows they were good.Greek dancing, an all girl(English)dance troop, were guest acts and went down well. The on site entertainment team were OK for the under 8s but that was it.The beach is at the bottom of the gardens, and although it is very pebbley, you can buy beach swim shoes for 7.50euros about £5.00 and your sorted. There is still some work going on in the reception area, but all the rooms seem to be completed.
There is a small waterpark about 150 yards from the hotel, as well as a couple of nice taverna,s should you choose to eat out.The hotel staff were always helpful, and the manager was always walking around,to ensure everyone was being looked after. The Ocean Blue has has a major referb over the last 12 months, and as you would expect one or two little snags can occur, but on the whole we as a family had a great time.I would think that to visit this Hotel next year, when everthing is settled ans established, you will be paying a lot more than perhaps you will for this year. One final point with regard to the sunbeds etc,if you,ve not got your towels down by 5am, then you,ve got no chance of lounging by the pool.Yes you,ve guest it the Germans, are there at first light. It got so frustrating that in the end some Brits were putting there towels down before going to bed at around 1.30 am.
Theres a handy little shop near the pool and you can get the UK papers everyday, the usually arrive about midday. The hotel will change currancy but NOT travellers, so you will have to walk into Kramasti,(about 20mins) to get to the bank.So would we go to the Ocean Blue again ? I would have to say yes, although I do prefer to try different places every year.
So if your booked to go to the Ocean Blue, relax you,ll have a good time, all the scare stories from last year are know completely irrelivant.
Best to describe this hotel as Butlins without the fun fair. Very large (500 rooms) spread out over a third of a mile. If you're in block 5 or 6 its a long walk for a meal.

Well kept pools and rooms. Maids in every day to makes beds, change towels and empty bins. They made patterns with our night attire and left on bed (nice).
The food was very good for massed produced meals. Didn't get bored with it. You can book a meal at the 'snack bar' for a change. They provide Italian and Greek food. Can recommend the Italian. You need to book early the day b4 at the reception for this.
There is NO LIFT to the food hall only 20 steps, not good for the disabled. Plus long walks if you're in the wrong block.
Plenty of sporting things to do, tennis, beach volley ball, water polo etc. Animation Team tries hard to get you going.
There is almost always a breeze here which we found good to keep us cooler in the day but it does make things too cool at night. (this was in late May early June, could be different in July/Aug)
You are also right on the flight path for landing (depending on wind direction) gets noisy but cant say it bothered me much.
Its also right on the beach, loads of sunbeds on beach and round pools.
All in all i think this holiday will suit families best.

ACCOMODATION - impressive hotel, thats where it stops! Building work still going on so noisy. Rooms fine, no tea/coffee facilities etc. TV with 2 Englsh channels. Rooms cleaned every day.
FOOD - All Inclusive. Food not suitable for a dog. No variety, well unless you like fish curry. No children's menu. Food is cold, they have a microwave to heat it up. Same desserts every day, vile. Drinks taste like alkazeter! Snacks through the day are remains of previous meal, pizza and cheese sausage rolls. Was my worst nightmare.
WATERPARK - only opens 11 - 3pm. Water not very clean. Novel at first, boring when you realise its the only thing to do.
SWIMMING POOLS - 3 pools (not 5 as advertised). Constantly filled with bugs. Only 1 suitable for toddlers. Freezing.
PLAYGROUND - 1 Little Tikes piece of equipment. No probs apart from it was on dusty grit. Saw a rat i the bushes, pleasant.
BEACH - Full of dirty materesses, skips, pebbly. Cars and motorbakies race up and down.
ENTERTAIMMENT - Kids disco loud and repetative. Entertainment consisted of same man dressing up in womens clothes every night, touching the other male entertaiers 'bits', Gross.
RESORT - What resort? 2 supermarkets along a dusty track. Nearest decent resort was Falaraki.
Not Recommended. 90% of guests complained when I was there. Holiday from Hell.
