"Illyssion Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This was our first time in Rhodes although we have been to other islands in Greece. Our holiday was the result of a ";too good to miss"; bargain which was actually our honeymoon but luckily it turned out to be a fantastic week!
We arrived to the apt complex (which is delightfully small) at the uncivilised hour of 7am. (Please tour operators, no more late night flights!!) But we were met by a smiling and gracious Roula to our spotlessly clean and comfortable apartment. This complex is run by Roula and her husband who seem to be ever present yet never intrusive. They have a decently stocked bar and a good cafe style kitchen which has a limited but nice menu.
The pool area is lovely with plenty of chairs and most welcome toilet facilities so that you don't have to go too far for anything.Ialysos is a developing resort area and it would be fun to return in a few years to see the changes. We were there the last week of Sept. The sun shone daily and the temp were 27-32 with a pleasant sea breeze. The beach was a short walk away and is very stoney. This did not deter many people but I confess we became very lazy and stayed by the pool.
The usual bars and restaurants were available but they all closed early and if you wanted to go out late Rhodes town would be a better bet. We especially loved Zorba's which was near the Sun Beach resort(which is massive) Mike and his gang were unfailing welcoming, the food was excellent and we loved the Karaoke night with Alain and Pat.
Rhodes town was a short and cheap bus ride away and well worth the visit. The Old Town is particulary impressive and fair dues to the Greek govt for using funding from the EU to restore this area.
However, shopping bargains, especially at the end of the season, are better in the local area. The only downside we encountered were an agressive bunch of ";time share"; people who were everywhere. (of course they didn't say they were time share)The lure was a scratch card and some feeble prizes, so be aware, it's a big con!
All in all it was a wonderful time and we were sorry to come home to the rain and the wind :(
