"Para Sun Studios review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned from a 1 week trip to Para Sun - Ialyssos Rhodes. Booked last minute deal for £90 per person (less charges etc)
Location:
I/we are NOT the sort of people who like to lie on the beach for our holiday and this location is perfect for those wishing to explore the island and its history. Having said that, it is also ony 5 minutes walk to the beach if that is your preference but all of the west side of the island is pebbled beach, not sand.
As a base for exploring we found Para Sun to be superbly located. Five minutes walk to Ixia main strip and 10 minutes walk in the opposite direction to Trianda with its more commercial bars, restaurants and shops.
A very reliable bus service can take you into Rhodes Town within 10 minutes for 1.5 euros from there you can get a bus to anywhere on the island for very reasonable prices.
Taxi's are also available (7 euros back from rhodes town) and all prices are clearly displayed on a board in the taxi rank so you know you are not getting ripped off.
Accomodation:
The accomodation is very clean and tidy and the family owners are very friendly and helpful. There is a bar and clean pool and a cheesy Kareoke night once a week. So, if you want some night life, hop in a taxi.
However, having done the self catering holiday before I thought I knew what to expect.
This is less self catering and more self sufficiency. For catering you are provided with 2 small electric rings that take about 20 minutes to get hot. Using these to try to boil any water is frankly dangerous. There is no kettle or drink making facilities, so take your own tea, coffee and a travel kettle. We also had a fridge that shook like crazy so we had to turn it off at night to get some sleep.
Bathroom facilities are clean but limited. You are provided with a shower which only has warm water if the sun has been shining all day. In other words, no hot water in the morning and no hot water if its been cloudy that day (this may apply to other places too as a lot are solar powered heating). However, to add to the frustration of cold showers, the showers have no hook on the wall so you have to hold it in one hand to shower and try to use your soap etc with the other hand. This was the same in all rooms, not just ours.
Oh, and there is no TV (which was actually quite nice) and you also need to buy your own loo paper!!
Recommendations:
Lindos and Symi are beautiful and worth a visit, as of course is Rhodes town, by day and by night. A lot of trips can be booked 20-30 euros cheaper than with your opperator just look for the blackboards.
Absolutely superb food is available at Whispers bar / Restaurant which is 2 minutes walk from these appartments, on the main road. Whilst superb, cheap snack and takeaway food is available at Toni's which is in the middle of town in the opposite direction.
In any of the main towns, if you get approached by someone on a scooter just ignore them, they are selling time-share or something similar.
Don't bother going to Faliraki unless you like being surrounded by fellow UK people, being served by UK waitresses in UK themed bars, reading UK newspapers, watching Sky TV and eating sunday roast with yorkshire pudding.... You could quite frankly just go to your nearest seaside town and get the same experience.
Overall:
We explored a lot of the island and we were more than happy with this location, not too busy or tacky. But within perfect distance to any type of entertainment you want.
Rhodes is a grat place with some great sites and history and would thouroughly recommend.

We are just back from our hols,in Rhodes. We had a brilliant time, the apartments were clean and spacious. The kitchen area is tiny but hey we were on hols no intention of cooking!!!
Paras, alex and george who run it are just lovely ,we found it was like a home from home. There are only 18 rooms so u really get to know everyone which is good.
They hold karaoke nights and greek nights which are really good.
The road out the front is very busy,so b careful. The beach is accross the rd and down like a counrty lane, the water is a beautiful colour!!!
We liked to eat in zorbas which u get to down that rd too ,we also eat out in trianda too which is very nr.Whispers is also a nice place for a meal.
We went to marmaris for the day got some great bargains but u get a lot of harrassement their too,the boat trip to lindos(noon to sunset) was lovely Lindos is VERY hot!!! We had a great day out to the waterpark, but it was so hot our feet were burning!!!We will definately go back ,one of our best holidays ever!!!!!!!!

Overall Hotel Rating:
First of all let me start by saying we all had a great time at the Paras Sun and have booked to go back next year. The appartments themselves are run by a friendly family who treat people like friends not customers, if they are treated likewise. Alex, the son has a great rapport with the guests, (especially the ladies)and is very helpful to your needs. The pool is and tidy clean as are the rooms. But do not go if you intend to cook a lot as the cooking facillities consist of 2 electric rings- fullstop. A little tip is to take a travel kettle.
The resort itself is about a 10 minute walk away, but there is a very busy road to cross first and pavements are not pushchair friendly. If you turn right at the busy road you will come to a restaurant called ";whispers"; (100 yards)which provides excellent good value meals with lots of choice. Ixia is about 20 mins further in the same direction. You can get to the main town by turning left or going straight ahead. If you go straight ahead at the busy road you will come to the ";beach";. Shingle but ok.Another 5 to 10 mins is the main town with lots of bars and restaurants but quite sedate.
All in all a good resort but not for very young children as walking is essential. A bonus is that it is only 10 mins from the airport but plane noise is not a problem.

Ialyssos is a great place to go if you're looking for a relaxing holiday. The apartments were just a 10 minute walk from the beach and a few minutes more to the bars and restaurants. Unfortunately, there is a very busy and dangerous road to cross.
The resort itself was very nice, although not very busy. The Knights of Olde restaurant was very nice and the owners were very friendly. The Cavo Tango Bar is absolutely beautiful and very popular with the locals although was a bit on the expensive side. Rhodes Town is just a taxi ride away, which cost around 8 euros. The old town is amazing, definitely worth seeing. The boat trip to Lindos was good too, although we didn't realise it was going to take 2 and a half hours to get there!
The accomodation was very basic but clean and was about 5 years old. The family were very friendly but keep your eye on the son...he was a bit too friendly if you know what I mean! Sometimes it made things quite awkward, we had to keep our patio door closed all the time because of unwanted visitors.
All in all, we had a lovely holiday and would recommend it to anyone.

this is the first time my wife and i have used appartments although we have been to rhodes 5times we were not quite sure what to expect the para sun rooms are basic but very clean just remember to take your own kettle as non are provided also loo rolls you get one and thats your lot,
you can hire fans for 3euro a day but it is cheaper to buy your own for 13 euros.the pool area is outstanding and very clean and spacious plenty of sunbeds and a perfect suntrap, the poolside bar is adequete with draft beer at 2.50 euros a pint snacks filling and resonably priced ,the owner and family very friendly and helpful.around and about go into trianda try the manhattan bar a good drink their strawberries and icecream are not to be missed the owner christos is not shy about buying you a drink.
just outside of appartments is debbys for the pefect breakfast,go towards ixia and visit napoli for the perfect pizza or lasagna,my only gripe was with the carrier excel air the cabin crew were surly unhelpful and surely in the wrong job,we paid extra for leg room and had to fight to get them,we will defiantly go back to rhodes but with another airline.

We spent two weeks at at the apartments. They were run by a lovely family. The resort was quiet but close to restaurants, bars supermarkets etc. The Greek nights and karaoke organised on site were a real laugh. Ialyssos is just a short ride to the wonderful Rhodes old town also which has something for everyone. We hired a car and had a good look round the island. There is lots to see and do. Lindos was really pretty. The Butterfly valley was spectacular.
We all had a really good holiday and would recommend this resort to anyone.

ialyssos, next door to trianda is perfect for those looking for a relaxing holiday. My mother and myself found just what we were looking for there. quiet enough to relax in yet just the right amount of local entertainment. the locals like you to join them in the dancing, drinking and eating customs. we had great fun in a bar called Greek Land which was full of local characters. Great music was provided by the owner, his son and daughter and some more excellent musicians. the only thing that spoiled our holilday was the owner of the self-catering apartments , the Para Sun Studios. She was prone to shouting and screaming at the guests. However I would still go back to Ialyssos as the local people made us so welcome. one day (who knows) I may be able to retire there!!
