A little disapppointed when I arrived, I was just expecting a little more from it.

Ialyssos is close to the airport so transfer is quick, you can hear aircraft noise incoming but it did not distract from the holiday. The hotel was clean, food average a little repetative not much choice. We went for two weeks and during this time could not get a sunbed by the pool, the pool seemed a little small and not enough sun beds to cater for all. We used the beach which was only five minutes walk, not the best beach very pebbly. We hired sunbeds at 3 euros each from Naftilos Bar this place did excellent high quality food at good prices we used it most days for lunch.

I don't want to paint too bad a picture of this place it was good value for money, we stayed half board. It was just average compared to other places I've stayed.

We booked this holiday six weeks before and got a very good deal on self-catering basis. On arival which took only 10-15 mins from airport, we were allocated a one bedroom appartment in sun beach 2, there are three parts to the complex one is a RCI timeshare type holiday club, the other two are situated one on the beach front and number two over the road,
It was very clean and well equiped, microwave, two rings, fridge, toaster and kettle all new.

we were directly above the entertainment stage but as the shows finished at 11.30ish it did'nt pose any problems for us sleeping. The entertianment team Palo, Gogo, Mark and Lisa were a great bunch of people they had time for us and always had a positive attitude towards everyone. Lisa who ran the mini club was excellent with all the kids she collected them and returned them always with a smile. Mark was activities rep for sun beach1 so we only saw him in the evenings. Our activities rep was Gogo he was an amazing guy always happy and full of fun, organising all the activities around the pool area. My husband was up for all activities including killer darts, great fun.

we were given a discount voucher for an evening meal for only 6 euro each half price for kids. We ate first night and had a very good meal with pleanty of choice even for my husband who is a veggie.
As it was the last two weeks of the season we found that alot of places were closing down and had very few customers and lacked atmosphere ie four people in a bar that seats 200. as well as being very expensive for only one course meal.
So after a few meals out we decided to pay for the remaining eight day meals in the hotel at a cost of only 184euro/£135 for the three of us 5 course meal which we would reccomend.

The resort is discribed as having some aircraft noise, it is on the main flight path when the wind is in the right direction excellent for any plane spotters but as they are comming into land they are not too noisy. Reccomend watersport type shoes as the beach is very pebbly and hard on the feet.

All in all a very good holiday excellent for families, recommend a ride on the little train at beginning of the holiday to get some idea of the resort.

We booked this Thomson Holiday through Barhead Travel via Teletext. We had (me and my partner Helen that is) no idea what to expect from Ialyssos and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The quality of the Sun Beach Resort Hotel was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Entertainment staff worked very hard to keep people entertained but were not too pushy if you did'nt want to take part in anything. Children also had thier own entertainment.

The pool was clean and also had a nice bar next to it, the only problem with the pool is that as there is only one side that gets sun all day so there does tend to be a scramble for sun chairs in the morning. And NO the scramble is not specific to one nationality.

The beach at Ialyssos is fine shingle and then larger pebbles towards the sea, which can be very hard to walk across when going into the sea.

Nightlife was perfect for us with just enough bars to make it interesting without being too garish. As it was the end of the season it was pleasantly busy but not too busy to make it uncomfortable. We also hired a car for 2 days and went to Rhodes Town (old and new) and went to a few ruins, but there is not a great deal to see between places. All the locals were very friendly and spoke very good English, which made us feel very guilty but we did learn how to say Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and Where is my Donkey in Greek, all very useful phrases.

I would highly recommend Ialyssos to any families and couples who just want to be able to do their own thing, relax and soak up the sun without being hassled.

The 2 weeks we spent away were very enjoyable and it was very hard to drag ourselves away and come back home. We are already looking to go back next year.
