the hotel is everything you would want in a family holiday, the entertainment staff work around the clock to make sure everyone has some thing to do during the day, if just sitting by the pool isnt your thing, the night time entertainment for the kids is spot on, there is a wide selection of food available for both lunch and evening meals, as there is a lot of nationalities staying at the hotel, the only bad thing to say is that the glass sliding doors in the rooms arent made from toughened glass and they break at the slightest touch so make sure any small or big kids dont run through the room to get to the outside as this could end in a lot of pain

What a fantastic holiday we had during our weeks stay at the Miraluna Village. We arrived on the 14th May 08 checked in at the Village and shown to our room. Upon arrival we had a great suprise as the room was very spacious and had all the modern facilities air con, TV,DVD player, fridge and fully fitted wardrobes. The bathroom was spacious also with a built in hair dryer for the ladies. The complex was excellent and clean and the staff very friendly. The food was very good, and I would say they catered for everyone and dietry requirements. My wife can be fussy but was very happy with the food all week an excellent choice well done the catering staff. The maids and rooms were kept exceptionally clean and our maid was very polite and friendly always went our of her way to help and greet you if she saw you. She did a great job every day in the room and when she had finished the room was like a show room. Well done !!!! Overall I would definately recommend this complex if you require a chill out and a relax. I will be visiting again in the near future and will say the team at the Miraluna were great !!!

WELL DONE TEAM FOR A GREAT HOLIDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We arrived looking forward to two weeks away from rainy Britain, we had paid extra to upgrade our accomodation to the Miraluna Village after reading the reviews on this web site.

We were greeted at the airport by a FC rep with a letter explaining that the hotel had over booked and that we were not in the accomodation we had paid for. Ok, we thought, it can't be that bad!!!!

After checking in at 5am at Kiotari Bay we were sent to the furthest point of the hotel, practically on the beach, and that was our room !!! We found the room unclean, stains on the sheets and bed spreads, cobwebs under the kids beds, a lizard crawling into the air - con (if you can call it that) and a gap under the door that could let a small rodent in. We were not happy. During the short night, the electricity kept going off and on, knocking the air - con off (if you can call it that!) This is not 4 star, possibly 2 star accomodation.

Having had very little sleep we went to the welcome meeting to complain to the rep and were told it was not First Choices fault and there was nothing they could do. They compensated us our money that we had paid for the up grade and we got the V.I.P. wrist bands which meant we could go and use the facilities (pools, snack bar, restuarant) at the Miraluna village, but had to drag ourselves back to the Kiotari Bay at night time.
We were not happy. The rep suggested we kept asking if they had any free rooms available in the Miraluna village, and we did. After 3 days of sleepless nights they moved us up to the 4 star Miraluna accomodation.
After this our holiday began, we unpacked and enjoyed the rest of our stay. It does not cost much to upgrade, and we would reccomend that you do as it makes a lot of difference to the quality of accomodation that you get.

There was a good choice of food, but after 2 weeks it was a bit boring. The kids clubs and reps were great, especially Rachel. Entertainment was steered towards the Germans and Italians and very hard to follow at times. They did not do much other that dance. The cocktails at the 'Mafia' bar were great and most of them free if you upgraded. The bar man was very friendly.

We met some nice people when we were there and had a good time with them, but the resort let us down a little. We won't be going back!!

Just got back from the kiotari bay and we all had a brilliant time! I read the reviews before going and was a bit apprehensive when we first arrived, to say the least!!! The room itself was small considering it was supposed to be a family room but other than that everything else was great.

The food was fantastic, so much to choose from and available all day, you could never go hungry. Drinks are typical local brands and they certainly dont skimp on the amounts of spirit they put in, and kids can help themselves to there own soft drinks in snack bar which was a great idea as this meant they didnt have to wait at a bar. First choice kids club reps were amazing always happy and friendly and kept the kids very busy with all the clubs they put on.

Only other thing bad was the nightly entertainment the hotel put on, not much to be desired there! zeus bar was nice to go to and the cocktails were good too. If you manage to get out and about Lindos is very picturesque and worth a visit.
oh yeah n u do have to race for the sunbeds, if youre any later than 7am youve got no chance of getting one!!!!!!!!!

Open quote

We have just returned from the Kiotari Bay-Miraluna resort and we had a great holiday. But can I say that there is a good reason for the double-barrelled resort name because this is a tale of two hotels (and two different types of holidays).

I first booked this holiday with a standard family room but having read the reviews posted on this and other websites, chose to upgrade to a select family room (adding about £400 for four of us) and boy, was it worth it.

When we arrived at the resort it became very clear that going 'select' didn't just mean a better room, it meant a totally different, and in our minds, a much better experience.

The resort is on a long slope with the Kiotari Bay (KB) hotel at the lower end closer to the sea whilst the Miraluna site (run by the german compnay LTI) is at the top end. If you book a standard room you can use the KB hotel facilities and that's it. If you book a select room, you can use the whole resort - and that makes no end of difference. Check out the wrist bands - if you book select you get a VIP band - different from blue KB hotel band or no band at all.

To start with food - we ate the KB hotel restaurant the first night and because they had had a power cut (a reoccurring theme) it was very hot and crowded. The food was good but the whole atmosphere was chaotic and noisy, the staff close it at certain times because it gets too busy. With a select room you can also eat at the Miraluna restaurant and the next day we went for breakfast and we never looked back.

Whoever wrote that the Miraluna restaurant makes the KB hotel one feel like a canteen is exactly right - it was cool, calm, spacious and the food was (considering this is all inclusive buffet-style) excellent. A great variety, a good choice of greek and family-orientated dishes and helpful staff. Not only this but you can also eat in the Miraluna snack bar which has its own chef who made great gyros at lunch time and (unlike the KB hotel snack bar which was next to arcade games and the pool table) had loads of outside seating next to a pool.

Leading me on to the pools. If you stay in a standard room (and therefore at the KB hotel) you can use the pirate ship pool (fantastic is you have young children) and then the main pool area which for some reason First Choice describe in their brochure as 4 pools - it's not - it's one pool split into four. It is fresh water (all the pools are) but it is crowded and for most of the day the animation team plays loud music. I might sound like a complete kill-joy but believe me, I'm not - I like a buzzy atmosphere but this was way too much for me.

On the other hand, our select room booking allowed us to use the 5 main Miraluna pools, one of which was literally 10 foot from our ground floor room (maybe not so good if you have very small children but great if you have a 12 and 15 year old who like to sleep in later than you, and you can just walk out and lay on a sun bed until they're ready for breakfast).

It was like having a private pool, each pool was generally used only by the rooms surrounding it which meant you could be the only person using it for a quiet swim but then be as boisterous as you like with the kids without getting in other people's way. So if you wanted the lively buzz of the KB hotel pool you could go down there but then return back to the calm of the Miraluna pools when you had had enough.

The other big part of our past holidays has always been the daytime and evening entertainment. We like doing sports during the day and joining in activities such as boules, volleyball and pool games and we usually watched the night show even though our children are now too old to join in the mini disco. Previous reviews had raved about the animation team so we had high hopes. These were swiftly crushed!

The new KB hotel animation team is made up of 5/6 italians - I couldn't tell you their names or even remember their faces. We joined in the volley ball on the beach for the first week but that was about it. My husband arranged a game of boules with the team leader on the second day but he sent along the new girl in the team instead who had only arrived 3 days before and didn't even know how to play - we taught her!

Their evening shows were very poor - badly organised, mainly in italian and really not funny, unless you were aged between 4-10. In fact they were so bad that First Choice had insisted (so a rep told us) that three professional shows had been bought in - and these were very good - an ABBA tribute band, a Pussycat Dolls/Girls Aloud band and a troupe of Brazilian acrobats who were brilliant. We stopped going to the animation shows in the end but did go to the First Choice kids talent show which was well run and very cute.

The Miraluna animation team were all german and run their animation programme with expected effienciency. After about a week we started joining in with their activities and enjoyed those, especially the darts and table tennis competitions. They also had an early evening quiz which was fun. Their evening progamme was german-orientated but they did explain things in English and to give them their due, not many English people had been staying at that end of the resort up until then. So if you do go select, try joining in their activities - they have a good selection and they are a nice team - within two days they knew our names and said hello when they saw us - the Italian team greeted me once with a brief nod - and that says it all.

Finally, a few other pointers. If you go 'select' you can use the Miraluna cocktail bar in the evening as part of the all inclusive package rather than paying in the KB hotel Zeus bar. The bar keeper is called Manos and he obviously thinks he looks like Al Pacino (which he does - many young girls hearts were fluttering!) because he has a framed picture of him up on the wall and you have to order your cocktails by saying ";Mafia"; first - he's a real character and gives the whole thing a bit of personality.

If you have a select room you don't have to pay for the mini safe, it's included and they also fill up your mini bar every 2 days with soft drinks and beer if you're feeling too lazy to go across to the snack bar. You also get the beds on the beach for free - so with the free safe, cocktails and the beach beds, going select works out quite good value for money.

There's a good beach in a small cove called Glystra one bus stop away. Get the bus going towards Lindos and it takes about 3 minutes - we weren't being lazy - the main road doesn't have pavements and the traffic is very fast.

There were power cuts but they didn't last for long but the generator in the KB hotel broke down for 10 days and those in standard rooms had no air conditioning between 12 midnight and 5 am and we were told it was incredibly hot. Meanwhile those of us in the Miraluna end of the resort had to turn our air conditioning down at night because it was so powerful!

We didn't really use the First Choice children's clubs but people seemed very happy with them and given the number of children who joined in the talent show, they were very popular.

So do go but go select - yes it cost more but when you have paid £3700 for a two week holiday, £400 wasn't that much more and it made all the difference. We had a great holiday, those staying at the Kiotari Bay hotel seemed to have a great holiday but I wouldn't stay down that end when I knew what was available yards away - it really was a different world.

When I booked this holiday as always i read the reviews and everything I could lay my hands on. For us this was a good, quiet resort, good facilties, it's all about personal taste, though I will say that the First Choice brochure is not up-to-date !!! We up-graded at a cost of £84.00 after reading the reviews and what a good job we did. When you up-grade you actually stay in the Miraluna village and with this you wear a wristband that enables you to eat, drink, swim and use all the facilities in both sections of the resort.

My main issue was the restaurant in the Kiotari Bay, it was and felt like a canteen, where as in the Miraluna it was much more relaxed and pleasurable !!!!The room could be improved upon, smoke alarm not working, a one inch gap to one side of the patio doors enabled me to be kept awake on several occassions as the Germans sang and enjoyed their evening at the pool bar !!!! The food was fine, many reports said that all their child ate was chips....well they will if you let them and don't encourage them to try, there was a good variety.

There was no rush for sunbeds, you could always have your chosen spot even when we went out in the car and returned to swim. As for the resort of Kiotari itself, it is advertised as up and coming...well I think it has up and left. You can walk into Kiotari on a quiet coast road, but it is full of rubbish and there are no Tavernas on the way as advertised. My advise is if you book here Up- Grade. The plus point for us was the First Choice Reps....all four did a fantastic job, the kids loved the activities at the clubs and the nightly Mini Disco...well done Steph, Sarah, Kirsty and Steve.

When we arrived at the miraluna we were told we would not need wrist bands as everyone is A/I. What we were not told is that the majority of english people are put in the Kiotari Bay and cannot use the miraluna. The Italians, Germans, Dutch etc are in the miraluna have v.i.p bands and can use all the complex. When we mentioned this to reception he just shrugged his shoulders and I said I felt like we`de been had and he laughed. So please be clear when booking which hotel you book 4*miraluna or 3*kiotari Bay and don`t let them put you off at reception and say it is all one complex.
We think the rooms must of had a referb since last year as they were very nice and kept very clean.
The food was ok as were the drinks.
The pools were good.
The daytime entertainment was ok but not what we expected, as for the nightime RUBBISH.
Considering what we paid we felt we had value for money and had a good week. If we had paid brocher prices we would of been fuming.
Rhodes is a beautiful island and would go there again but to a different resort.

Just got back from 2 fabulous weeks at Kiotari Bay.

Before we went we were a bit apprehensive about sunbeds, animation team and reps. No need to have been worried, sunbed situation the same in most large hotels and towards the end of the 1st week more sunbeds arrived!! The animation team and reps were brill. Non stop work from 10am until show finished at around 11pm.

Rooms good, some people moaned about the furniture being like flat pack Ikea stuff, but you only sleep in your room!! we had no problems with it. Food good and plenty of it, it catered for all nationalities. Beach not ideal for kids as it is pebbles, but the hotel listens to peoples feedback, and during our last week there, they were putting sand under the sunbeds. All staff from reception to barstaff to maids were very friendly. This is a new hotel that has only been built for 4 years and is in a very quiet/remote area, but in a few years to come I would imagine it could become a nice little village as there is new places being built all the time.

I would recommend this hotel to all types of people. There is always something for everybody to do!! There is even a disco in the hotel for the teenagers (it is soundproofed!!!)

Booked this Hotel on the recommendation of the rep in FIRST CHOICE and she also got these reports up on the internet in the shop as l said l wouldn't book until l'd some.
On reading the reports every thing sounded good and things looked nice. WE BOOKED IT.
On arriving at the hotel it was abit remote but the rep had said that you could walk to the local village or catch a bus that wasn't a problem we didn't mind that but first there was no path and the road was very busy. You couldn't walk with the kids it was unsafe. Catching a bus if it turned up you could.
The beach was very dissapointing as it was stones you couldn't walk along it.

The hotel looked lovely when you first walk in and made by the nice staff.
It's when you go and find your rooms that the problems start.
CARPET on the floor that hadn't been hoovered since it had been put down.
You had a shower and the water came back up through a vent in the floor.
If you hadn't had a shower by 4pm there was no hot water.
You just felt dirty in there.

The best part is that your all inclusive that's if you well enough to eat the food or if the food is eatable.
The food was terrible. My kids will usually eat anything but not on this holiday. We were only there for a week from the wed to wed my daughter became ill on the sat and she never ate anything till the meal on the plane home.
Couldn't even get her to eat the food from the snack bar was very good.
My husband came down with the bug on Monday and he was like my daughter couldn't face the food.
Everytime that you entered the restaurant there was a funny smell.
The glases that you had drinks from at the bar never got washed just swilled under water.

We weren't the only family to become ill everyone was going down with some thing.

One lady had booked 2 weeks there but came home after 1 hated that much.

The sun bed race was fun.If you hadn't put your towel out by 10pm you wouldn't have a sunbed for the next day, that's how bad that got.

So glad that we only booked a week.
Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
It's just one of those holidays you just want to forget about.
Would never book through first choice again.
Book a trip to the waterpark which was brill the only good thing on this holiday.

On some of the reports it say's about the two different hotel but in the brouchure it all looks the same hotel.Just be carefull what you book. The new part was very nice and no-one was out using the pool which was a shame as they had lovely wooden sunbeds very nice and clean. This hotel was certainly geared up for the germans.

Just read all the reports and make your own mind up. What i hated you might like.

My family (Children aged 12 and 9) and I have just returned from our holiday and wished we had booked two weeks. We had some apprehension about this Hotel after reading the reviews on this and other website's. The accommodation is about 2 km away from main Kiotari resort thus my comment on the resort rating.

However certain points need to be addressed about how people judge this accommodation and what people perceived they have booked.
The first Choice Brochure is slightly confusing and beleive the company should advertise the Kiotari Bay Hotel And the sister hotel Miraluna Village seperately. The Miraluna Village is owned by LTI hotels which is a german based firm, which have more upto date Photos than First Choice and is a Good Official 4 star complex. whereas the Kiotari bay I rate a low 3 star at best.

Advise that a taxi transfer, as we did(around 45 mins), is benficial as the hotel is around 2 hours from the airport and is probably the last drop off/ first pickup on coach transfers.

THE MIRALUNA VILLAGE
As we are experienced travellers we looked at the accommodation available and booked a 'SELECT Family room with Pool View, Verranda and sole use of sunbeds'. Our Room (515)was excellant with a dividing wall and door to seperate adults and children sleeping arrangements. The patio doors lead onto a wooden verranda which lead to the pool (approx 6 feet away). No problems getting any sunbeds even when we have been away from the hotel for half the day.
This seems to be where people go wrong as these rooms are at a supplement and are in the MIRALUNA VILLAGE Complex, (Newly built in 2005), and are not the basic family rooms(no supplement),in the main Kiotari Bay Hotel.

As an all inclusive package we could use any bar or resturant on site whereas the all inclusive residents of the KIOTARI BAY HOTEL are not allowed to use the Miraluna Village resturant or snackbar.
We have no complaints about the food in the Miraluna Village what so ever especially as my daughter is a vegetarian. Plenty of different dishes for all taste's. Found food to be marked up in german and english on around 98% of all dishes except in the snackbar where there weren't any labels whatsoever but it is basic and easily indentifiable food.
Typical mediteranian sweets but felt disappointed in the fact there was very little traditional greek sweets. Waiters/waitressess polite and spoke very good english.

Both Hotels promote a greek Night however in costs 14 euros for adults and 6 euros for children and held on the Hotel Kiotari Bay Roof Terrace. We Enjoyed the night, food was good, Greek dancers great but a complimentary glass of Sangria isn't very greek, ouzo would have been better however it didn't spoil the evening. Should have been part of the select package i feel but 40 euro's is reasonable cost for the night.

Snackbar food was very good and waiters polite and the kids ,aswell as adults, enjoyed the ice cream, although not the best.

Drinks are typical of the all inclusive option with all local drinks included. However in the lobby bar you can get named brands but at an extra cost.

The complex is around 2-3Km from Kiotari itself but with poor street lighting and no pavements enroute, advisable to get a short taxi ride. We rented a car for 4 of our 7 night stay. Packed lunches are available from the resturant but have to be pre-booked. We went to the Acropolis at Lindos, Prasonisi Beach and other small places. Lindos itself well worth a visit and the acropolis cost 6 euors per adult and Kids are free.

The whole complex is situated on a shingle and gain access via a sub way with watersports and bar (at extra cost).

The best sandy beach near the Hotel is Glysra Beach with cafe, WC's,Unbrella's and sundeds etc. 10-15 Mins walk and is ideal for snorkelling. A Worth while walk.

This is an international hotel with German,Italian,French British and some spanish tourists but clearly catered for the german element however the Animation Team spoke a number of languages fluently and were enthusiastic to get every body involved.

THE KIOTARI BAY HOTEL
The Kiotari Bay Hotel is classed in the same group as the Miraluna village but i would rate the Kiotari Bay Hotel a low 3 Star hotel at best. Although the residents I spoke to clearly enjoyed themselves it is not my standard of hotel. Pool side cramped and pools not especially great and sunbeds /umbrella's scarce if you wake up late. Can't comment too much as i only have an overview of the facilities available.

Summary
To summarise we had an excellant holiday because we did prior planning and preperation and investigation into the hotel. The MIRALUNA VILLAGE is a 4 star complex but people booking a hoilday with first choice and want to stay in the Miraluna Village must book a 'SELECT ROOM' at a supplement and ask the Travel Agent or operator to stipulate what you are getting for your money. There are different Select Rooms we had just one type. I would have no hesitation in returning to this complex and would recommend MIRALUNA VILLAGE hotel to anybody, but must stipluate, pay the supplement get the SELECT Room and get a better quality of service and accommodation.

Well being a regular user of this site i found this hotel to have many great reviews and found only a few negative ones. So i paid my £4500.00 and set off for a fantastic holiday.

Well i dont know where all you other people went, this was with out doubt the worst holiday i have ever been on.

The hotel was hardly 3 star let alone 4! we arrived in the hotel to find it it is in the midle of no where. No problem you might think, a 4 star all inclusive what more do you want.Well we were taken to our room and when we saw it our hearts sank. the smallest cell you can think of, no window and a balcony shared with two other families.a manky grotty red carpet greeted us, two single beds in one room and into the other three beds pushed togeather for our three chldren. No where to sit or walk around. The brouchure pitcure shows a lovely living area. Straight back to reception for a complaint. NO FIRST CHICE REP ABOUT AS NORMAL!!!!

Hotel staff, very sorry and very helpful, (ALL OF THEM) we were told that this was a regualar complaint from first choice customers and that there rooms were all the same. She even told us when she gave us our keys she felt sorry for us. She moved us to another room the next day, same size but with its own balcony and a large grassed area for the kids to play on. This backed on to the childrens pool.

Well we went to te resturant to eat hoping the food with be better. IT WASNT!!
Pasta and hotdogs mixed togeather was the best thing on the menu.GGGRReat!!!
The first chice rep was seen in the morning who told us she couldnt do any thing and we got what we paid for. When quizzed why a seven year old would have to pay adult price and had to sleep in the smallest of rooms she replied, "; you paid for it at the time you should have asked then";
She told us she would move us to another hotel for £1500, well above my price range.
We stayed and made the most of it. the food got better on the odd night but mostly pasta, sometimes hard, how two top cooks can balls that up is beyond me!!

Entertainment was average, although the animation team gave 100% everyday and were very nice. Half way through the holiday they were sacked as first choice demanded they put the entertainment on. GREASE certainly ISNT the word with those clowns dressed up like a bunch of half wits!
The next day due to a number of complaints animation team back where they belonged.
Then things got worst, we were told the team were doing a Greek night with a BBQ and dancing. ALL THIS FOR A EXRA £40.00. Well i paid four and a half grand i thought it was all inclusive!!
Beach party on the last night again with a pay bar, whats that all about.

The private beach, shingle in the brouchure.... rocks more like, no way you could let small kids play on it, oh and you had to pay for sunbeds. YOU also have to pay for crazy golf to.
Good points, the pools were clean and cool, the staff were great and very friendly and thats that. Towels every three days.

DONT BOOK A TRIP WITH FIRST CHOICE! We did and waited for our coach for one and a half hours, When we complained the rep stated she had put a note in our key hole at reception three days prior to us going stating it had been cancelled. Why the hell we should have got that i dont know??

Well if you think i have moaned alot i can assure you i was not the only one. If first choice had one happy customer whilst we were ther they should get them stuffed.

First of all I have to get the gripes out of the way we arrived middle of the night and had to find our own way to the room(2 young children, suitcases etc)at 4am!!only to find our room to be two storey`s up and shared with two other rooms.Being so tired after the travelling I decided to take the matter up later on that day. When I asked the gentleman at reception for a room change I could`nt believe it when straight away we were offered a ground floor room instead(we didn`t knock it back)

Sorry about that moan but that in all fairness was the only moan I have,Okay the food was`nt al la carte,Okay the rooms were`nt the hilton, but some people have to remember there're in greece not the maldives, our kids had a absolute brilliant time and what we saw all the kids they were with did to.A HOLIDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT!!!
A couple of things of advice:
1. get up early for sunbeds
2. use bus service to Lindos/Pefkos rather than taxi

The animation team who consisted of Aurel, Artur, Tom, Katie, Roy and Jerry really made the holiday, and never seemed to stop working, or making the holiday makers smile with their antics and their performances. My son had his 9th birthday whilst we were there, and we had arranged a table for eight in the dining hall, a cake and the hotel staff really helped by arranging everything. The animation team had him on the stage and presented him with an Arsenal Football shirt that we had taken out with us, as a present (great idea Tom, as he will never forget it).

Aurel is a natural and talented performer, and fluent in six languages enabling him to converse to all of the holiday makers, and with the help (and brains) from his brother Artur who I believe designed most of the routines and sketches, they really keep everything going. Katie who is so full of energy, really puts her heart and soul into her performances, and helping out in the Mini-Disco. Roy a
