"Good value all inclusive hotel"

Open quote

Billed as a 5* all inclusive you can take away a couple of stars for the room as you will be in one of the cattle class bungalows - approx 25 sq m room with one double and 2 single beds squeezed in. You won't get anywhere near the lovely rooms on the mitsis website for the money you've just paid.

Having said that the rest of the hotel and facilities pretty much live up to the lofty 5* rating with a number of pools, a choice of restaurants (if you want to eat at the on-site taverna, chinese or greek you have to book the morning before - don't leave it longer than about 8.15am or you won't get a place) as well as the main buffet service area for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The all-inclusive really is with no extra charge for air-con, beach umbrellas/lounger, in room mini-bar, etc. My kids made full use of the on-tap ice cream and drinks as well as the cheese and ham toasted panninis which are also included.

The beach is clean, the water is too and there are free canoes available from the watersports centre. I would recommend the glass bottom boat ride as it is the best we have been on.

I wish I had seen the previous report before I went as we suffered from the appalling coach transfer from the airport. We got on the bus at 1am - sat there for 50 mins, and then wound our way through most of the island dropping everyone else off for over 2 hours - total time in bus 3 hours for 50 kms. Never again.

Overall - enjoyed the holiday greatly, despite the small room. At the end of the day, with two kids in the same room, all you are going to do is sleep in there - so for once size really doesn't matter !

Overall we all enjoyed the majority of the holiday, myself and partner travelled with our two sons aged 2 & 4. Although there were a few down sides to the resort we were also plesentley surprised by other aspects of our stay and like any other holiday unless you are very lucky things are often not 100% as you would like!! Not usually one to complain but there were a few downsides which i will get out the way first - * dinner time or tea in the main restaurant more like a stampeed with the buffalo. Whilst attempting to choose what you are going to eat you first have to fight for pole position at the the greasy grill whilst navagating around hundreds of other gusests. * No kettle in the room ( I know I am English ) but come on !!! * Get up early around 06:45am to reserve you right around the pool if not see you at the beach !!( Not good after several beers and cocktails the prev night ) Had to get those out of the way, once you have dealt with those few issues the crack on and enjoy like we did. We stayed in a bungalow approx 20m from the beech, air con good , beds comfortable and room cleaned everyday and mini bar filled every second. Kids really enjoyed the kids pool and two slids once dad had secured pole position around the pool ( Sorry forced hand ). Shop really handy on site, bar staff polite and enjoyed the cocktails and main bar area in the hotel complex. Have to be honest weren't really into the hotel entertainment by the pool . We also took a cab to lindos 19 euro there and 15 back. Lindos beautiful place lovely food and restaurants to choose from with winding streets a real must. Also took the kids on glass bottom to Lindos via Lardos and other coastal resorts which we all enjoyed. Although the beech at Kiotari is bebbled it is clean and well maintained with plenty of shelter but be warned get those shoes from the local shop approx 5 euro, it is the hottest beech my feet have ever had the pleasure to walk on or at least attempt too. Last bit of advice ditch the transfer by coach arrange a taxi from the airport before you travel approx 50 euro each way, takes approx 50 mins in comfortable merc with air con. all in all enjoyed our holiday so if you have booked don't worry just take your alarm clock, wellies for the beech kettle for the room and gas barby and you will have a craking time.( Joking ) enjoy

Ive Just come back from The Rodos Maris hotel 2 days ago and I had to write this review because I was really worried about this place after reading the reviews it really put me off going but i had already booked the holiday and couldnt change it im used to nice places and i was really worried this hotel would be horrible due to the bad reviews i had read, a lot of people have put really bad reviews about this place and i really can not understand why???

we absolutely loved this place and ive been to 5 star all inclusives in the carribaen and this place was nearly as good as them realistically a 4 star but for greece and the price you pay here what more can you ask for I am deffo booking for next year, there are a couple of negative points which i will get out of the way first :-

1. the rooms are not of 5 or 4 star standard definately a 3 star we stayed in a bungalow not the actual hotel rooms in the main building and we did get ants as we had a garden room but some of my family stayed in the hotel and the air conditioning was not as good in those rooms as it was in the bungalows so depending on whether you can handle a few ants but a ";Clean"; room then i would recomend you ask for a bungalow as they were cooler and with the heat out there the cooler the better after a scorching day in the sun....
2. there are a lot of steps so if you have little ones then just be careful, if your careful then its not too bad.
3. the beach is very pebble'y so buy the beach shoes they sell in the shop at the resourt for 5.50 euros well worth it...
Good points:

4 resteraunts in total: chinese, greek, taverna ";mainly italian/greek"; and the buffet .... now i can not stress enough how nice the food is its definately to 4 star standard probably the best part of the holiday we did not suffer with any stomach aches and with the kids especially it was fantastic... chinese is the best of the lot cooked in front of you by chinese cooks absolutely superb. Although the taverna was great too and the buffet and normally im never to fussed about the buffet resteraunts in these types of all inclusives but this was one of the best buffet resteraunts ive eaten in superb....!! the only dissapointment was the greek resteraunt the startes and the appetizers i loved but the choice of main meals wasnt to my liking but that might be just my taste?? I like traditional greek food like stifado etc but the main meals were more like kebab's without the skewers and no sauce... so a bit to dry for me and i think only a couple of choices...

The childrens entertainment is fantastic we have a 3 year old and they cater for the youngsters really well.
Bars I think there is 3 bars plus the beach bar and each one was really good and all the staff are really nice especially george in the pool bar great guy always had time to speak to everyone a great asset to this hotel.... !!
Beach: great and has a nice breeze deffo what you need as the pool can get jam packed and far too hot to handle....

Anyway if you are worried about this place and you have booked this year do not worry because if you go with the attitude that its not going to be a 5 star as you would expect in spain/england/carribaen etc etc then you will be pleasantly suprised, ....... you will love it...

We had a late night flight we just about coped with then had a fairly long coach trip to hotel arriving in the early hours of the morning. We were all pleased with our rooms which were very clean. The air conditioning in our rooms was good which was definately needed as the temperatures soared into the high 40's. The maids cleaned our rooms every day which was definately a good thing for a room with 4 teenagers in.
Food was very good. We also booked to eat in the taverna which made a nice change this is included in the all inclusive package but you have to make reservations the day before. There is also a very nice chinese restaurant whch you also have to reserve the day before.

We took two 16 year olds who were not particulary keen to come on holiday. They got involved with everything made lots of friends from different countries. As for the other teenagers they to really enjoyed it. Then there was our little girl of 4 who although wouldnt join mini club had a fantastic time.
Lots of activities which you dont have to participate in but you will enjoy if you do.
Animation team fantastic and friendly.George at pool bar a lovely man.
Very clean and friendly hotel.

Will definately return

Well leys get the bad points out they way 1st. Its to far from the air port, after a 3-4 hour flight in small cramped conditions you have another 2 1/2 hours on the coach.

When we first arrived the first thing everyone said is how clean the place is.
Its vurtually spotless.

The room are very simple yet apply to all needs with a bath and shower hair dryers international tv

The pools are great. We stayed by the main one most of the time

One thing i reccomend highly is getting more sunloungers. We had to get up early to put towels out for all of us ( as there was 13 of us all different ages 4 - 40 )

The food was lovely as im such a fussy eater

I really enjoyed the chinese which you have to book for

During the day the animation team does game in the water like water polo water gym an other types also on the beach they do darts volley ball football bowls an water gym

The beach is lovley didnt spend much time there but what time i did it was lovley

The animation team are great so happy an funny constantly playing games an at night doing good entertainment

Overall its a really lovley place to go.
We plan on going back next year

We have just returned from a week's stay at Rhodos Village.
The hotel was great, the communal areas are attractive and clean. The food was excellent, a wide variety of choice for all three meals a day plus food drinks and ice cream at the pool bar.
The room was adequate and clean. The mini bar in the room was refilled every other day with a variety of drinks.
Packed lunch was provided if you went put for the day. This was the same every time but it was OK.
There are acouple of gift shops in the hotel and a few ";supermarkets"; nearby for gifts etc.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful and all spoke good English.
As we went right at the very beginning of the season, not all pools were open at first, but were by the end of the week, but the water was cold. It would be much better later in the season.
There were activites and entertainment for those who wanted it and the kids loved it. I saw 2 crying when it was time to go home.
The beach is pebbly, but there are plenty of longers and sunshades and a bar, toilets, changing cabin and shower on the beach.
We went to Lindos which was very interesting. Lots of steps so not for those who have difficluty walking although you could go up by donkey for 5 Euros each way.
We also went on a boat trip to Symi which was very enjoyable.
We had a great time and would recommend the hotel and the island.

After reading various reviews we were very sceptical - WE HAD NO REASON TO BE!

This hotel was fantastic!! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the entertainment team couldn't do enough for either us or the children (they work so hard, but always have a smile for everybody), and the whole hotel is soooooo clean.

The communal toilets are cleaned every 2 hrs, and the entrance, pool area and bar areas are cleaned twice a day.

They cater for all regarding food - they have vegetarian, fish, meat, salads (if you're watching what you eat!) as well as fresh made pastas, chow mein and cooked meats on the grill at the back of the restaurant. Everybody is catered for here!

The Greek restaurant on site has to be booked in advance at reception, but really worth taking the time - the food is wonderful and the staff are again really helpful and friendly.

We would recommend this hotel to anybody who wants a lovely relaxing family holiday.

If you want to venture out of the hotel, Rhodes is wonderful. We had a day at Symi and although a long day, it was worth it for the views we saw on the boat trip as well as Symi itself.

We will definately be coming back to Rhodes in the future and will definately book this hotel again!!!

The food was excellent, both in quality and range of choice. The bar staff were responsive and alert to customers and the cleaners were dilligent.Daily entertainments were fun for many ,including my son, with snacks available both at poolside and beach bar.

On a negative note our room was disappointing. The air con was very poor, the bathroom was mouldy and the bed was lumpy,as a result we slept poorly.Taxi from airport was 47 euro and 55 euros back.

Overall I enjoyed it and my son had a great time, scenery good and hotel and beach clean. Hotel could have operated air conditioning within dining and public areas to improve comfort levels.

We went to the hotel on recommendations by friends who've stayed before. Unfortunaltely when we arrived the weather was terrible (no fault there of the hotel). Fortunately after a couple of days the sun came out. The food was lovely in the resteraunt with a lot choice. The staff in the restaraunt were lovely with plently of choice even for the fussiest of people. We booked our holiday in January this year a good ten months before. Unfortunately we didn't get the upper floor we requested or any views. We were quite far from the main areas of the hotel, resteraunt etc. This was annoying when the weather was bad you had to make a mad dash and we hadn't brought umbrella's, wellies. We didn't find the reception staff any help when we complained about our room in fact they got quite confrontational (so much for the customers always right). We were told the hotel had overbooked by 40 people and there was nowhere to re locate people some peoples rooms were flooded with water and had to be moved to the neighbouring hotel the Rodos Village. This must of been frustrating for them. There was a Taverna near the beach that you could book at reception to make reservations, this was lovely as it was less busy and the kids liked the food there.

The access to the kids pools was awful there were no handrails, I saw at least half a dozen people fall. We heard one lady broke her hip round the main pool. We also saw on two seperate occations children had fallen through glass topped coffee tables, luckily nobody was cut. This holiday is not for young children or the elderly as there are steps everywhere, we couldn't really relax with yound children as we were worrying about the safety of them in the evenings if you were unpstairs as the walls are low in places.

I would recommend the glass bottomed boat to nearby Lindos this was brilliant and kids loved it, it sets off from the hotel 3 times a day. The water sports on the beach were really good you can do water skiing, sailing, ringos and the banana boat. You can do any of these plus kayak boats for free. There were always plenty of sunbeds on the beach, however round the pool sunbeds were more difficult. The hotels policy was no bagging your beds with a towel which everyone ingnored.

My kids don't like joining kids club but the dealings we had with the kids reps was fine, they seemed to do a really good job.

All in all a good time was had by all but there is no way it was a 5 star more like a 3/4 star.

The sign outside Hotel reflects perfectly the standard with only four of the five stars illuminated.

Book a Taxi to the hotel then pray by taxi it takes 45 minutes by coach you will see every other hotel on the island before you have to wait two hours for your room to be ready no matter what time you arrive. The hotel is clean and apart from the Barmen in upstairs bar the service is very good. The Food is plentiful and you can mix and match as much as you want Macaroni and mash for breakfast for example. The weather for our week was great and the sea warmer than the pool. We were also lucky that there were very few kids.

The main complaint we had was the night time entertainment. The Activity crew do there best, but seem to think Bingo must be played every night, followed by games that any self respecting adult would cringe at. This said the day we left an influx of kids with equally juvenile parents arrived. They even allowed their toddlers to ruin the Greek Dancers performance by encouraging them to play on the dance area whilst they did a sort of kung-fu dance to 'Zorba The Greek'. This annoyed the greek gods an the heavens opened flooding some of the bungalows, and turning the marble floors into ice rinks. All the entertainment by the way is in a bar area with a very low ceiling and in the same room as the indoor pool the noise is deafing and smell of chlorine is awful. Nothing for adults to dance to no Motown or even the smooch to finish an otherwise perfect day.

For a change visit the Mourella Taverna 300 yards down the beach road for some great greek food at a reasonable cost. Oh and Don't mention the war I did once but I think I got away with it but do listen out for a submarine that fires beach towels on to the sun loungers at night.

I Arrived in rhodes late at night and got into the hotel in the early morning. When we arrived in the hotel thefood manager had prepared me and my group a lovely spread of sandwiches and fruit. On the first day we went down for our breakfast could not have been faulted, the same with everyone of our meals. The Entertainment during the day and at night was also faultless. The Entertainment suited all ages in our group. The Staff in the Rhodes Maris Mitsis were very nice and would do anything for you. Normaly i am very unhappy about the cleanliness in hotels but i couldn't be happier with the cleanliness of my room and everyone i was on holiday felt the same. The location of the hotel was great. It wasn't to far from the airport and it was fairly near the main town Lindos and Rhodes old town. Overall I han an amazing holiday in This Magnificent Hotel.

Overall Hotel Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

When it comes to going on holidays, I like to read peoples reviews and see if there is a common theme regarding good or bad points. In the case of the Rodos Maris, the bad point seemed to be the food.

Having just returned yesterday from an 11 night stay, I can assure people going to this hotel that the food was fantastic, not 5 star outstanding, but when you're catering for 1300 guests from different countries around Europe and the Americas, then I can heartily say it works well. On entrance to the restaurant you are met by one of the 3 very friendly ";maitre d's"; who ask you your party size and weather you would like an indoor or outdoor table, (at busy times you may need to wait a few minutes for an outside table). Upon being seated, a tip is to order your drinks before going to collect your food and invariably they will be at your table upon your return. All the waiters and waiteresses were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The food avialable was self-service and of very good quality and availability, nothing seemed to run out, or if it did it wasn't for long or you were too late for the mealtime!! Firstly there is the bread bar, stocked with a very wide array of different breads, then came the salad bar with all the FRESH salad foods needed along with the most delicious Feta cheese, then there is the cold meat, salami and cheese area complete with all the sauces you could need, I counted 20+. moving on, you come to the hot food counter where there was 8 or 9 different style hot meals to choose ranging from sauted veal to roast duckling and usually a locally produce fish dish, there was always a good selection of vegetarian meals available too. The stuffed aubergines were to die for!! Moving on, next up is the grill, where chicken, pork, steak etc. is griddled to perfection in front of your eyes. Then there is the fresh pasta counter where a couple of fresh apsta dishes are made, I recommend the Carbonara, mmm beautiful. Finally comes the dessert counter, here you will find things ranging from Profiteroles through to Creme Caramel, via Jelly and Trifle, oh and the most delicious ice-cream. All in all the food by our family at least was of the highest quality. Also the Taverna ";Varka"; is also worth a visit or two during your stay, with fresh pizza and pasta and a grill as above. here I recommend the local Gyros - crispy pork strips served with onion, tsatsiki and pitta bread, all freshly cooked.

There were still a few people who whinged about the food during our stay, they wanted more typical greek, my advice to them and you if you want this, go self catering and eat out!! If you do eat out, we were recommended a restaurant to eat at in Lindos called the ";Arhontiko";, a little tricky to find, but if you ask one of the locals, they will direct you. Here is a hidden gem. A couple of years ago it was given a review in the Daily Telegraph food section we found out. We both had Steak and it was literally the most beautiful steak we both agreed we had ever had. Dimitris, the owner, was also on hand for a natter and was very proud of his now home village of Lindos. He was born on mainland Greece.

The hotel is very clean and tidy, the rooms comfortable although basic. The maids clean the rooms daily and are also very friendly. The mini-bar in the room is a nice touch although if you want alcohol, it only contains 2 bottles to last 2 days!
The hotel bars were very friendly run and a chat to George at the pool bar is a must. He is the Victor Meldrew of bartenders but such a funny man. 60 going on 20 with his Sun-Tan and Permed Hair.

The pools were of an ample size for all the guests although on some days, sun-loungers had to be searched out. There ar 2 water slides on site although the smaller of the two wasn't in operation during our stay due to an electrical fault. There is a lifegurd (Pete) on hand should anything unfortunate happen. He also changes your towels and keeps a guardful watch over the hotels 4 pools. An American, he came to Rhodes 25 years ago temporarily and is still there!! Another very friendly person, that seems to be the key to this hotel, friendliness.

The entertainment was excellent, ranging from water-polo and water gym an the main pool and football and volleyball on the beach during the day with a kiddies club alson on hand for the little ones, to bingo, raffles, dance competitions and the music quiz at night. I had belly-laughs every night at the antics of the people on stage and found myself on stage on more than one occasion. The animation team were also fantastic with our little boy and even looked after him for us whilst my partner and I entered the dance competition - have you ever seen someone aged 37 and 36 do the Waltz when they don't have a clue how it goes? it brings tears of laughter to my eyes!!
A special word here goes to Rico who is the boss of the animation team for his tireless efforts in organizing things and also to Romana, James and Daniele. P.s James, did your team ever beat Whisky (another guest)and mine at Water Polo without cheating?? I think not!! HA!HA!

All in all a highly recommended hotel for those with young families or those wanting a lively but not too lively holiday. if you want lively go to Faliraki.

Out and about, a day trip to Rhodes town is a must with a walk round the markets of the very quaint old town and also a walk on the castle walls surrounding the old town also a must.
A visit to Lindos and the Acropolis is well worth it too although bring sturdy shoes as climbing steps is obligitory in this hillside village with it's narrow cobbled streets. You could take a Donkey ride up to the Acropolis for 10 Euros. A walk round the Acropolis as Dusk as we did was so romantic with a beautiful sunset and then round to a panoramic view over Lindos.

If you are a beach-bum, a trip to Afantou with the most beatiful beach on Rhodes is also well worth it. The hotel beach is initially sandy but closer to the sea it is very shingly and a pair of beach shoes is recommended.
Kiotari is a small village with one or two shops, bars and tavernas. There is enough going on if you have small children but don't expect much after midnight.

We have had such a great holiday, that we are planning a return next year and I have never said that about any location that I have been to before. As other people have said in reviews before, don't expect an english 5 star hotel and i'm sure you won't be dissapointed. Also we made our own way from the Airport to the hotel and vice-versa. At 45 euros each way, it was money well spent. With Kiotari being on the opposite end of the island to the airport, some coach transfers can take upward of 2 hours to get there which is the last thing you want after a 4 and a half hour night flight!!
On a final point, if you want to see the island, hire a car or take a taxi, the buses are cheap but Kiotari to Rhodes Town takes 2 hours. We booked a coach through the rep at the hotel and it was a mini-coach that took 12 of us all from the Rodos Maris to Rhodes Town in 50 Mins with no stops for other pick ups! Well worth the price!

Book here and after what i've said above, i'm sure you won't be disappointed. For us it was our best ever holiday.

Open quote

We just returned yesterday so time has still to temper my objectivity but l see this as a cathertic opportunity! Reading previous reviews on this site regarding the Rodos Maris it was with some trepidation we booked. I wish we had heeded those more critical comments!

Kiotari - in the middle of no where, you will be confined to the hotel unless you use a bus (excellent) or taxi (pricey)but the rollercoaster experience is worth it.

Hotel - some probably like the 'marble, leather sofa, warehouse - after the clearance sale' look. There were vast areas of wasted space that could be better utilised improving the dining and cocktail, rather than serving as improvised play areas. No air con in the building, you just melt waiting for someone to acknowledge you in reception. Overbooked - several examples of this, one included 3 nights in another hotel. That might be seen as a plus!

Our room was fine, though no view of the sea as requested, just the back of the block in front. All kept very clean by obliging staff. Minibar replenished every other day.

Queuing - yes we went at the busiest time of the year but did not expect this! Queue to get into the dining room, again no aircon so its like a sauna (book the taverna same food but fresh pizza and its outdoors) Dining room is a mass free for all,no sittings, its' lay out means you queue for everything all the time. Don't leave your table unattended else they will put someone else on it! All drinks have to be served by the waiters who often need a reminder. Overall this is not a pleasant experience!

Food - it's pretty dire! I didn't see the 'international cuisines from around the world' but tray loads of chips, beans and sprouts. Some meats (burgers and lamb chops) are cooked on the grill, join the queue early or learn the 'I don't queue' skill adopted by some other nationalities.

Drinks - queue at one of only two bars, (go to the internet cafe, you often get served quicker) Why don't they have soft drink dispensers for the kids and cut the queues?
Most of the seating is of the plastic garden chair type (no cushions), which gets a bit uncomfortable after a while.

Pool - too small for this size of hotel. 'Towels at dawn' on the sunbeds; we never got near it. Many health and safety issues around the pool area; slippery surfaces; steep steps; low walls etc.

Beach - recommended, you will get a sunbed at any time. Always a queue at 'Mikes Bar' but here the staff work really hard.

Lindos - well worth a visit, 15? by cab or 1.8? by bus (35min) If you tire of the hotel dining experience, vist Arhontiko Restaurant in Lindos - magical!

Overall we were extremely disappointed with this hotel (though my 16 year old daughter loved it, lots of teens there, and some other families with young kids thought it good value. We will not use the chain again - it's back to a Rui in future!
