Do not go to the Kolymbia Bay Hotel at half board. Breakfast was ok. Main meals consist of dreadfully poor quality food. We ate at a local taverna for the rest of the holiday.
Safety around the pool is non-existent. The pool lights and their electric cable were adrift!
Ground floor rooms of main building were very noisy from pool area and doors having to be banged to open or close. Upstairs was quiet and spotlessly clean.
Local taverna is family run and they pick grapes off the vine to complement your meal or drinks. Friendly and attentive.

We spent our holiday in Rhodes at the Kolymbia Bay Hotel (and never again would we go back).
The resort itself was lovely and quiet as described in the brochure. The food was horrendous and the hotel itself in need of maintenance. We had the extra expense of eating out for most meals (even though we had paid for half board) as the warmed up food consisted of chips at every meal (which even the children couldn't eat as they complained there were no potato in them) with a very limited selection of other foods to go with them i.e. soggy sprouts, or for starters watery soup. We were forced to have a couple of meals in the hotel as my father is diabetic and couldn't have walked the distance into main Kolymbia before he ate but they were very disappointing.
Olympic quote:- a 3 star as being well maintained, popular accommodation with amenities. The only amenities were the pool as you couldn't count the children's playground as this was almost unfit for any child to play on, the dart board they advertised was no where in site and the table tennis was an old rundown thing. The pool bar was only open for a couple of hours in the day and there was no entertainment at the hotel what so ever (mind there was 1 Greek night at the sister hotel).
We only stayed there for a week (for which we thank our lucky stars) as everyone we spoke to at the hotel was of the same opinion and were absolutely gutted to be staying there for 2 weeks!!
On the maintenance subject the room we stayed in had a big gap down the side of the sliding door (which meant us being eaten by mosquitoes) the sliding doors didn't slide very well at all (especially in the day time heat) which surely has to be a fire hazard). The room my father had had a huge gap under the door and the door had to be locked at all times otherwise it would just blow open. The cot that we had for our baby was disgusting, absolutely filthy and the bottom broken. We sent it back initially for another but the same one came back with 2 maids to put it up (which still fell through). We had to put a drawer underneath it so that it wouldn't collapse. In all this isn't a very child or baby friendly hotel or even disabled as there are so many steps.
The only good point that we could make from this experience is that the staff were excellent and very friendly.
We have complained to Olympic who have quoted ";we genuinely have not experienced difficulties at the Kolymbia Bay hotel which has proved to be a satisfactory unit throughout the season and we apologise that it was not to your personal expectations.
If you do go to Kolymbia I strongly recommend you don't stay at this hotel.
a 2* hotel with 4* staff
sparce but clean but does have the best bar and the staff go out of thier way to be helpful.

the beach is shingle so sandals/jelly shoes are a must, with water sports at both ends, the beach is public but not the sun beds. There are traverners/bars over looking the beach, but not all have toilets,as they belong to the hotel behind.
The pool at the hotels is small we used the hotel pool across the road.(sun beds 3E a day)not for none swimmers (very deep)
if you stay there be prepered to walk long distances (always carry some water)
you are supposed to drive on the right but the locals use the middle!!
going out at evening can be a hazard especially at dusk as this is when the mosquitos come out to feed? take your own repellent with you as the local stuff is only GOOD for about 10 mins
LINDOS by boat tour is the best; fantastice views, has its own micro climate (very, very hot)so use the ";taxi"; going up (watch your knees on the corners)and walk down via the shops
the round island tour is dear! as you have to pay for extres, the coach to rhodes is ok have a look round the old town and check out the brolly shops (yes i know sunny or what)and the best place to eat is in side the square down by the water front but watch out for the scooters
last but not least
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
on the spot fine/jail they can also inpound your car and it will cost alot to get back (there limit is less than half of ours)

The standard of accomodation here in the Kolymbia Bay hotel was excellent, compared to some accomodation in Greece. The room was spacious enough, but the bathroom was a little small, though enough for one, and you could fit two in at a little bit of a squeeze. We were surprised to find a TV and a hairdryer in the room. The room was cleaned daily.
The let-down with the hotel was the food. Breakfast was OK, it was continental, so you had bread and jam. There were boiled eggs and beans on offer, but we didn't try them. Dinners were unacceptable in our minds. Soup was served to you, then you had a buffet salad which consisted of Greek salad, a potato salad, another salad and an item such as Pizza or Sausage Pie to go with it. These items changed daily. There were two choices of main course, and you had to choose in the morning what you would like to eat that night. Portion sizes were small, and we later discovered that the food was not cooked in the hotel, but shipped in from somewhere else, and simply reheated in the hotel.
Due to the standard of the food, we ate out most nights, at a lovely restaurant on the main street called ";Nikos";. The portions here were huge, and the food was lovely. It was excellent value for money. Two starters, two main courses and two drinks came to about ?20 on average.
The beaches in Kolymbia are shingle, which is difficult to walk on. We found a beautiful sandy beach at the harbour. The water was very shallow, and it was a beautiful setting.
We would visit Kolymbia again as we felt it was just right - the resort was on the whole quiet, but there is main street about a 15 min walk from our hotel which has some lively bars and a couple of restaurants on it, so if you wanted a bit more life you could walk up there. The resort is surrounded by mountains, and the scenery is breathtaking.
There was an excellent bus service which served Faliraki, Afandou and Rhodes Town, so you were never too far away from anything.
