Kolymbia is a very quiet town. It has only 2 beaches 1 of which looked more like a building site!If you are looking for a holiday thats packed full of things to see & do travel to old rhodes town & Lindos.

Be very cautious when booking with Golden Sun. We were booked into the Rodos Star Hotel in Afandou, booked and paid months in advance, and were rung up the evening before we were due to fly and told Golden Sun had lost contract with Rodos Star. We discovered later this may have been because Golden Sun had not paid the Hotel!!

The Hotel Koala was given as an alternative. Staff very friendly and helpful, food was quite basic on some occasions but better on others. We did eat out more than we had planned as it was not brilliant. Towels changed everyday except Sundays. Room was basic but clean.

The resort is very scenic tho' long walk to beach and bars. Well worth the walk tho'. Pauls bar was absolutely excellent for cocktails drinks and friendly service. Trips to Lindos and Symi are well worth taking. Local buses are airconditioned and cheap. We had a great holiday tho' this was due more to the resort than the accomodation. Almost everyone in the Hotel all 14 of us, were in the same boat, all booked in Rodos Star and cancelled last min. We made some lovely friends which made the holiday even better.

Very Serious Warning - If you are thinking of booking with Golden Sun - DON'T. Booked a week at the Kathilea Sun on Rhodes. As we drove passed the hotel, the rep told us we they were refusing to take any more Golden Sun customers, because Golden Sun hadn't paid them. It turned out that other hotels on the island had the same problem. The response of the reps was one of couldn't give a dam - we were just an inconvenience to them. At one point, I was told by a rep that I was spoiling other people's holidays by complaining!

Ended up in the Koala - staff very friendly but in process of closing down - no beer. Food was disgraceful - no choice, just what was put in front of you - seen thicker soup than their ";mashed potato"; and desert was one tinned pineapple ring. Food at breakfast was not fresh - same boiled eggs brought out every morning. Resorted to eat out.

Hotel is on the only road into Kolymbia and 2km from the beach and a 20 minute walk from the nearest bars/shops. Traffic on road was very loud 24 hours a day - got very little sleep. When a motor bike went by the local dog barked waking up the cockerill at the nextdoor chicken farm, who in turn set the hens and geese off clucking. Coaches and cars 30 feet from your bedroom all day and night.

Holiday was only saved by the great group of people we were with, all of whom were in the same boat having being relocated from the Kalithea Sun to the Koala.
