Just returned from the Marianna Palace in Kolymbia. The hotel was spotlessly clean, food available at 3 set mealtimes during the day, all very well cooked and presented although a little more variety would not go amiss, drinks available all day until 12 midnight after which you could have half price cocktails at the bar across the road. The owner, Vasili was very nice and welcoming ( which is more than can be said of the staff at the hotel) - he was telling us that the tour operators are trying to squeeze the local tavernas, bars and gift shops out of business - a mistake in my eyes as the area would certainly not benefit from there being nothing but hotels(all inclusive) there. We walked around every day in the area and visited different bars and shops but i can see a difficulty in this for people with families, but then again would they want to be tied to the hotel for 1 or 2 weeks - if you go away you might as well look around where you are and the drinks are not too expensive in the bars there
All in all we enjoyed the week - i could live there- as i've said before - but it was just a bit too quiet for my other half who preferred the rock bars in Rhodes Town.
I love Rhodes
